MANCHESTER UNITED SOCCER SCHOOLS CAMPS 2015 RESIDENTIAL FOOTBALL CAMPS

LEARN TO PLAY THE UNITED WAY “THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME”

FOR 8-17 YEAR OLDS

This is how students have described their Football Camp. Our one week camps are crammed full of fun and football, providing a sports experience that will be remembered forever.

Every morning players will receive football coaching from the world-famous Manchester United Soccer Schools. No matter what their ability, students undergo a comprehensive course covering the technical, tactical, physical, mental and social elements of the game in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Afternoons are allocated to football seminars led by our expert coaches or supervised activities including swimming and tennis. After an evening football session there’s a chance to socialise and enjoy activities in the players’ lounge. Here, players can relax and watch TV, play fussball, table tennis or compete on the games consoles. This is a great opportunity to experience different cultures, make friends and gain social confidence.

“Jack had a wonderful experience and unforgettable week. Thanks to all the coaches for their hard work and dedication, and to the pastoral staff for looking after our son!” Fiona Foster, 2014

FOOTBALL COACHING

LEARN TO LIVE, TRAIN AND PLAY THE UNITED WAY

We teach players how to build up a range of skills, movements and techniques comparable with Manchester United’s 1st team training.

The coaching is designed to allow the development of skills in a fun and exciting way that constantly challenges and motivates players. We help players develop a greater understanding of team work and to have the courage and confidence to express their ability in games. The camps represent a truly international soccer environment with players from more than 60 countries.

• Students per group: maximum 16 • Students grouped by: age and ability • Dedicated coach: each group has the same coach throughout the camp • Football coaching per week: 20 hours • Kit provided: Manchester United Soccer Schools training shirt, shorts, socks, waterproof jacket and water bottle • Kit required: shin guards, 2 pairs of boots (with long and short studs), training shoes and additional football clothing

PASTORAL CARE Taking care of your children is our number one priority. We understand the needs of young people travelling away from home. From the time they arrive to when they are packing their bags, our students are well looked after, motivated and happy. In liaison with the Manchester United F.C.’s Children’s Services Officer we have three dedicated teams of staff on our camps to provide different types of care at all times.

MUSS COACHES Look after the children throughout the football coaching programme and on the Old Trafford excursion.

PASTORAL CARE STAFF Look after the children at all other times. They live in the same accommodation as the children and are on call 24/7. They are accessible to every child and ready to provide help, advice and reassurance whenever needed.

TRAINED MEDICAL STAFF Every pastoral care team includes at least one medical staff member trained to deal with minor injuries or illness both on and off the pitch, assess and analyse treatment and treat any other medical conditions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How can I contact my child on site? We recommend that each student brings their own phone. The camp will also have an emergency contact phone and you will be given that number before the camp starts.

Will my child get spotted by Manchester United and become a Manchester United player? The objective of every Manchester United Soccer Schools camp is for all players to achieve success regardless of ability. Camps are not designed for talent identification. However, players will leave with the knowledge and skills to continue to improve. How does the football coaching work? Camps are open to players of all abilities. The MUSS coaches are UEFA-qualified and trained by Manchester United. All players play within specific age groups with a maximum of 16 per group. They have the same coaches throughout the camp. Can my child stay for more than 1 camp? Each camp lasts 5 nights. If players would like to stay for longer, they can book 2 successive camps. Players can either return home for the weekend or book a weekend stay in between camps, which includes a trip to Alton Towers, a top UK theme park, on Saturday. Will my child meet any Manchester United players? Unfortunately not. Manchester United players are either on tour or on holiday at this time of year. Will my child need pocket money? This is entirely up to you. All the food and accommodation is provided, along with all the excursions. Players may wish to bring some money for souvenirs and extra drinks/snacks.

What happens if my child is unwell or injured? Our staff will assess the severity of the player’s condition. We carefully monitor any sick children. Medically qualified staff will decide whether the player needs to see a doctor or needs treatment at the local hospital. If emergency treatment is needed, our staff will always accompany the player to a doctor or hospital. We will make every effort to contact parents/guardians quickly but if treatment is recommended by a doctor and we are unable to speak to parents, we will consent to the treatment. Will football kit be provided? Yes, each player receives Nike/ Manchester United socks, shorts, training top, rain jacket, water bottle and bag. Note: boots and shin pads are not provided but are required. Is there a laundry service on site? Yes, for a small fee. Players should bring enough clothes for the 5 night camp. However, for players staying for more than 1 week, staff will ensure that the player are putting out their clothes to wash at the weekend. Is there accessible internet/Wi-Fi? Players can access free Wi-Fi around the site but we restrict the hours of use. Are all meals provided? 3 meals a day are provided on-site with plenty of options. On excursions players will receive a packed lunch. Menus take into account the amount of activity and sport played and our staff ensure that players are eating enough. Vegetarian options are offered as well as choices of hot meat or fish dishes, seasonal vegetables, salads, bread, desserts, yoghurts and fruit. Players are also given an evening snack. Who will my child be sharing a room with? We arrange room shares by age. We try to accommodate room requests where we can but this cannot be guaranteed and we look for your understanding when this is not possible.

Can parents/guardians visit children during their stay? Yes. There is an allocated visit day when parents are invited to come and watch football and see their child. If I can’t travel to Old Trafford to collect my child on Friday afternoon, what can I do? There are two options: 1. If you would prefer to collect your child from Denstone College on Saturday morning you can book a Saturday departure, which includes transport back to Denstone, an evening meal, accommodation and breakfast. 2. If you would prefer to meet your child in London, you can book on the MUSS coach, which leaves Denstone on Saturday morning and arrives back in central London at 13:00. This option must be booked in conjunction with an extra night stay. Can you meet my child at the airport? Yes. Here is our procedure: • Visit our website to book your camp • After booking, purchase an airport transfer through your online account • Provide us with details of your flight in your online account • On arrival, a designated member of staff will be there to greet your child • An arranged taxi or coach will transport your child to camp with our staff • For return journeys we will escort your child to the airport and check them in.
