INTERIOR - TCU AD OFFICE, THE DAILY SKIFF - AFTERNOON Eager Sales Rep and TCU student - NATALIE - waits for the phone to ring. It’s silent. The room is tense. Other sales reps occasionally eye the phone as well, hoping it will ring. NATALIE glances at her co-workers, and thinks to herself. NATALIE I have to get the next client. No matter what it takes, the next time that phone rings I WILL be the one who answers it. I’m so close to my sales quota... Across the room, CHRIS screams joyfully. All eyes turn to him. CHRIS Yes! That new pizza place down the street just told me in this email they’re going to run a half-page, full color ad for the next two months! Yall know that means my commission check will make me really happy. CHRIS smiles, obviously pleased with himself. NATALIE rolls her eyes and continues to scour the internet for potential clients in the local area. The room becomes silent again. The increased competition between sales reps has become a war. The sales rep with the most clients gets the dollars AND the bragging rights. Just then, the phone rings, and startles everyone...Find out if NATALIE will get to it first...
EXTERIOR - TCU SALES REP NATALIE’S CAR - AFTERNOON Eager Sales Rep and TCU student - NATALIE - Drives toward her destination with confidence: Her poetential car dealership client. She beat her competitor CHRIS, another sales rep, to the phone in the Skiff office. Now the client is hers. She thinks to herself. NATALIE I am so close to my sales quota for the semester! If I can get this client to purchase a quarter page, full-color ad in The Skiff, then my commission check will be huge! She stops at a red light. The dealership is around the corner. NATALIE Do I have everything? I brought the rate card to explain ad rates...that will give him all the info he needs. I just need to pitch to him that TCU students are thinking economically now. If this dealership will place an ad about any deals they have, students will totally take advantage of it. She pulls into the dealership, and grabs the rate card. She walks briskly to the dealership entrance. She asks to speak to the manager, MR. SMITH. Find out if she can get her client to advertise in the Daily Skiff...
INTERIOR - CAR DEALERSHIP, OFFICE of POTENTIAL CLIENT, MR. SMITH. Eager Sales Rep and TCU student - NATALIE - Follows manager of local car dealership into his office. Both of them sit down. If she can convince him to run a quarter page, full-color ad in The Skiff, then she will make her sales quota AND get a big commission paycheck. NATALIE begins her sales pitch. NATALIE Mr. Smith, my name is Natalie, and I spoke with you on the phone earlier today. I’m here to discuss advertising opportunities in TCU’s daily newspaper. MR. SMITH shifts in his chair. He waits a few moments before speaking. MR. SMITH Yes. I wanted to ask you what your rates were, and if they work with our budget, why should we advertise in the Daily Skiff? NATALIE slides the rate card across the desk, and discusses rates with MR. SMITH. He looks pleased. NATALIE Mr. Smith, you have a unique opportunity to target a specfic audience with our newspaper. If you also offer some sort of discount for our TCU students, I guarantee you will increase your sales. MR. SMITH silently thinks about the offer. MR. SMITH Natalie, I’m happy to do business with you!
