contact us! I’m ready for a break, guys. Planning for this issue, Evin and I were pulling up photos of exotic locations and planning our own Spring Break trip. Basically, we’re ready to sprawl out on the beach and get our tan on. This issue is meant to help you get away ... either for the weekend or for the whole duration of Spring Break. Take a look at our advice on how to meet new people (page 5, even though I’m not sure we’re experts on making new friends) and what to do. A massive part of this issue is dedicated for the people planning staycations (page 8 to 11). Get out and explore what Oklahoma has to offer. The variety is actually surprising. Take a break, drive for hours, explore a little. Escape.

My flip-flops and tanning oil are packed. It is time to escape to a place where sand and sun are my only worries. We were so excited to dedicate our second issue to Spring Break! No matter where you’re headed — warm or cold — take advantage of this week and have a blast. Do what makes you happy and don’t forget to take a ton of photos to look back at later. (And even share a few with us.) This issue has so much to offer, so make sure you pack a copy in your bag to read during your down time this week. Whether it’s on the drive or lying on a beach towel, I hope you smile. Soak up the sun and have some fun.

What do I wear on my first date? This makes me think of the scene in “Sydney White” when Amanda Bynes emerges in a suit to go on her first date with the movie’s love interest. So when you are digging through your closet, stressing about what to wear, just keep a few things in mind: A first date is about getting to know someone, so be yourself (only better looking). By this, I mean if you are a jeans-and-T-shirt person then wear the jeans, but switch out the T-shirt for a nicer top like a sweater or a blouse. Keep your look casual so you can focus on having a good time and not on an uncomfortable outfit. How do you know when a crush is reciprocated? Go through your texts and Facebook messages (if you are oldfashioned and email each other, look at those, too). Now ask yourself: Who initiates the conversation most? Who responds more? Who is sending the exclamation points and smiley faces? If the answer is you, then calm your tits and take a step back; because the feeling is not as strong on the other side. If both of you are initiating discussion or the other person is doing the majority of the talking, then I would bet you’re safe to assume that a first date is on your horizon.

What do I wear on my first date? Well, it depends. Let’s think about the person you’re going to go on this date with. What do you think they will wear? Or better yet, why don’t you exercise a little transparency and ask, “What the hell are you going to wear Friday night?” If that’s a little too brash, then ride the line between casual and overthe-top. Stick with jeans, definitely. If you’re a girl, wear a pretty top and something cute in your hair. Your date may not appreciate it, but all the gays will. If you’re a guy, put on a tie. Make the lady or fella you’re meeting think you actually care. It’s the best way to get a little action. How do you know when a crush is reciprocated? I’m a bit awkward and can’t read social situations, so let’s just think this one through: You like them. The big question now is whether they like you back or not. Wait ... what is this — third grade? If you want to know if a crush is reciprocated, march your little butt up to them and just ask. I, however, would never do this. Here’s what I would actually do: Stalk their Facebook, like a few of their photos from 2010 and then wait for them to take the initiative. Hey, that’s how I do things. Maybe that’s why I’m still single?

Spring break booze: By destination Katherine Borgerding | words The beach is great, but if you are like me, it’s just not the same without that cold brew. And there is no better time than Spring Break to kick back and have a drink. Wherever you are headed this week, consider ditching the PBR for one of these local beers that you deﬁnitely won’t ﬁnd in Oklahoma.

Brooklyn Lager, New York Available in most East Coast and some Southern states. Really any beer from Brooklyn Brewery is a tasty option, but the lager is a great beer for those who don’t like anything too stout or too bitter.

21st Amendment IPA, San Francisco Can be found in most states along the East and West Coasts. This packs a punch and should be consumed with caution because of its extreme bitterness.

Yuengling, Pennsylvania The quintessential beer of the East Coast. Can be found in most states along the Eastern Seaboard, has a great taste and is usually one of the cheaper beers on the menu.

But once you’re there, where do you go? How do you get there? Your beautiful, relaxing vacay comes crashing down around your knees the minute you realize you are as good as lost in a strange city. But never fear, apps are here! Check out these navigation apps that offer more than just a map.

1. NextBus DC — D.C. This app allows you to ﬁnd D.C.’s buses and Metro quickly for free. It’s handy, but cannot always keep up with D.C.’s sporadic-at-best public transit. 2. HopStop – NYC If you have never been, or even if you have been a couple of times, NYC subways can throw you for a loop. This app lets you know when trains are coming and how to make transfers quickly. Also, it’s free. 3. Vegas Mate — Las Vegas This app allows you to plan, map and dine your way to a fabulous Vegas weekend. Although not free ($1.99 in the iPhone App Store), it will get you where you need to go in style.

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, Michigan A well-rounded IPA with an interesting fruity twist, this beer will show up on menus along the East Coast from Pennsylvania to Florida and in the Midwest from North Dakota to Kentucky.

lunch in waynoka: Experience small-town Oklahoma in Waynoka, a city that packs quite a punch when it comes to hospitality. Café Bahnhof is well-known for its German cuisine. Sweetwater Café offers homemade eats like Scooby Snack breakfast sandwiches and pumpkin cookies.

Museum of Osteology: Satisfy your curiosity about bones and anatomy. Sneak a peek at skull-cleaning beetles in action before you enter, then test your knowledge of osteology upstairs, or simply run your fingers along the bones on the guessing table. “... They have a real variety of species, and it’s very unique,” said Kate Addington, a visitor from Seattle. “It’s the only one in the U.S.” Consider purchasing a porcupine quill, mini shark teeth or bats frozen in amber blocks. If you hunt, bring your spoils to the attached shop for cleaning.

Blue Belle Saloon: This brothel turned saloon provides an abundance of ghost stories. “One time, one of our investors was downstairs in the basement taking pictures … and she came up with a picture of a man dressed in black, a girl sitting in front of him with her hands out in front of her and shackles bound to her with her head down,” server Alicia Marquez said. “And within a week all of her photos disappeared, and her phone just stopped working.” Ask the servers for a tour of the upstairs floor, where ghosts are said to inhabit Miss Lizzie’s girls’ rooms. You can still see hooks on the floor where unwilling girls who were sold into the trade were chained.

alabaster caverns tour: Explore the wonders of the world’s largest gypsum cave with a guided tour by park employees. Snap photos of the pink, white and rare black alabaster as well as the hollowed out dome. “You want to walk looking up. If you pause to take a photo, be warned that the cave lights are on a timer, so you can and will be left behind in total darkness.

The problem is, there’s only so much room in a suitcase and only so many carry-ons allowed. Here are some suggestions for what to pack, what to not and how to save space.

Consider rolling thin articles of clothing. They’ll take up less space than if you fold them. Don’t bother with puffy items like sweaters, though.

Stuff small items like undies and socks inside shoes. It saves space for souvenirs.

Pack versatile pieces you can dress up or down. For example, a sundress can serve as a swimsuit cover up by day and be paired with heels for going out at night.

Wear your coat or jacket on travel day. That will afford you space for a few extra items in your bag.

Bring along only your signature pieces of jewelry. You can live without your entire color spectrum of Lily and Laura bracelets for a week.

Invest in travel-sized toiletries. You’ll be amazed at the room you save, and your back will thank you later for the lightened load.

Shoes take up the most space, so bring only one pair of each kind: tennis shoes, dress shoes (ladies, I’ll allow you flats and heels), everyday shoes and sandals or boots (depending on your destination climate).

Traveling with friends? Designate an item for each person to bring and share. You don’t need seven blow dryers.

Leave room for workout clothes. You worked hard for that Spring Break bod, so keep it up!

If you’re hitting the beach, you can’t have too many swimsuits. But bring one even if you’re headed to the ski slopes. There might be a hot tub, and you won’t want to miss out.

Sophomore Shelby Pendley has quietly had a great start to her ﬁrst season at Oklahoma. The Arizona transfer hits in the middle of the order and has been a key addition to the lineup — hitting .365 with 12 RBI. Pendley was awarded ﬁrst-team All Pac-12 the previous season, and she is putting together a year that could earn her Big 12 honors. She will face her former Arizona team this weekend at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.

Justin Timberlake “The 20/20 Experience” March is killing me softly with its songs, probably because JT shouldn’t leave the music biz ever again. I’m actually glad he’s not trying to reinvent the pop-music wheel with “Suit and Tie” and the rest of this lush electro-Pop&B album. He can keep doing the sexyback however he wants. Thanks for coming back, Timberlake — now can we get that *NSync reunion tour? Out Tuesday (perfect timing). Check up on it.

“Oz: The Great & Powerful” My mom’s been dying to see Sam Raimi’s sort-of prequel to the MGM classic for weeks, actually. Being sophisticated and all, I listened to an NPR story about how all these recent fairytale updates are no longer meant for children, but for twentysomethings too. Ain’t that the truth. There is a lot of weirdness to expect from “Oz.” There’s little direction, but it’s really pretty. And there’s a sexy Wicked Witch with an unknown identity, but I have my theories ... Showing now. Whether you’re a good witch or a bad bitch, go. “Admission” Geek queen Tina plays a neurotic Princeton admissions ofﬁcer who stumbles upon her (adopted) longlost son in Paul Rudd’s alternative school. Somehow this makes her job complicated, and then she and Rudd get together. Honestly, I don’t even understand the plot. It doesn’t matter as much as Fey and Rudd doing their thing on screen — these two are the champions of all things awkward. And Michael Sheen’s gonna be there too, so he’s worth mentioning. In theaters March 22.
