A little slice of a Mediterranean Life By Natalie Scalabrino CM Life Public Relations Staff

Among many of Mount Pleasant’s unique local restaurants, Tazeh stands apart from the rest. Located at 4855C E. Bluegrass, it is Mount Pleasant’s only authentic Mediterranean restaurant, and is quickly growing in popularity with students and members of the community. Owner, Charlie Devine, first established Tazeh in order to introduce new flavors to the area and bring the food culture of the Mediterranean to an all-American college town. He originally opened the restaurant in 2011, but closed in order to make some changes, which have not gone unnoticed, before reopening a new and improved Tazeh this past fall. The biggest differences were made with the

addition of a liquor license, which helps cater to the college atmosphere, and modifications to the previous menu. Upon taking a bite of any one of the Tazeh’s dishes you can tell careful time and consideration was put into its creation in order to balance timeless tradition with palate pleasing perfection. Of the numerous American, Greek, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and vegetarian items on the menu, the shawarma, kafta and falafel are some of the most popular entrees. They may also be purchased in sandwich form for lighter versions of the same delicious cuisine. Tazeh’s décor also reflects the Mediterranean theme with bright warm colors and items such

as vases sitting as ornamentation on the walls. The addition of select pieces of artwork and drapery partitions help to display the different nationalities represented in the restaurant’s dishes. With a friendly wait staff and a cozy atmosphere, Tazeh creates a memorable dining experience for all of their customers. Whether you want to catch a game on one of their flat screens, have a drink with friends, or simply enjoy a night out, Tazeh is the place to be.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN LIFE | SPRING 2013

College Students’ Dream By Witney Withers CM Life Public Relations Staff

A bar, club and restaurant all in one sounds like a dream to college students. Wayside/ O’Kelly’s is making dreams come true. Since opening years ago, Wayside/O’Kelly’s has become a Central favorite and it’s here to stay. Wayside/O’Kelly’s is in one big connected building but they are two different worlds. Let’s check out O’Kelly’s first. O’Kelly’s Sports Bar and Grille looks like an Irish pub from the outside and even has a three leaf clover as the logo. By day, O’Kelly’s is a full service restaurant in addition to being a bar. Their daily specials make it a great choice for a good meal at the right price. Specials run Monday-Friday from 11:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Need a place to watch the big game? O’Kelly’s is the spot to go. With 6 mega screens and twenty 51 inch flat screens, there is no way you can miss the action while watching the game at O’Kelly’s. They also have a great appetizer menu of chicken wings, potato skins, cheese sticks to eat while watching the game. At 9:00 p.m., O’Kelly’s transforms into one of the most popular 21 and up bars in Mt.

Pleasant. Students love O’Kelly’s for the nightly specials they offer. Tuesday night is Pint Night at O’Kelly’s and one of the busiest nights of the week. 1 pint of beer is only $1 from 9:00 p.m. 12:00 a.m. If you miss Tuesday night, you can still catch the deals on Thursday night. O’Kelly’s is definitely keeping a college student’s budget in mind. Let’s pop over to the club, Wayside Central. Wayside offers the same deals as O’Kelly’s, but they are 18 and up for admission to the dance floor. Wayside is a great place to celebrate birthdays in the plush V.I.P. area or enjoy a night of dancing in the cages. Every night at Wayside is themed. Just like O’Kelly’s, Tuesday is Pint Night, offering the same deals. Thursday night is college night at Wayside and the most popular night with a cover charge of only $6. Friday is a perfect night for girls’ night out because it’s Ladies Night at Wayside and ladies are free all night long. Sunday is a chance to go back in time and sing your favorite childhood songs at oldies night. When a celebrity comes to town, guess where they make an appearance? Wayside! Wayside

has recently had celebrities such as LMFAO, JWOW and Chanel West Coast. They offer VIP pictures for students before the event starts. Wayside/O’Kelly’s has something for everybody. No matter if you’re 18, 21, sports fan or want to meet a celebrity. This is the place to be. There is no one in Mt. Pleasant that has not heard of Wayside/O’Kelly’s located in the middle of the action on 2000 S. Mission. It’s quite possibly the most popular spot in town, and why wouldn’t it be? It’s a college student’s dream.

A New Taste of Mt. Pleasant By Natalie Scalabrino CM Life Public Relations Staff

Grab some friends and dig in to a 12” or 16” Giant Nacho, served with your favorite beverage.

Hunter’s Ale House officially came on to the restaurant scene in March 2012 with the claim of being “the new taste of Mount Pleasant.” And how could they not be? After all, what do college students love more than pizza and beer? The restaurant once known as CoCo Joe’s has completely changed its image, opting for changes in décor, atmosphere and, most importantly, food. Hunter’s menu now includes mostly classic American bar food, but what sets it apart is its thin crust artisan pizzas. There are 25 options ranging from a traditional Margarita pizza to a delicious creation known a the Mean Supreme. And if they don’t have something you like, you can always create your own specialty pizzas for just $5.99. Throughout the week, the Ale House offers

other food and drink specials as well, including their Late Night Happy Hour. Customers coming on Fridays an Saturdays get the chance to experience live entertainment, while during the week, Hunter’s has events such as game nights and trivia challenges. For sports fans, the restaurant also offers a 226-inch high definition television to catch your favorite team on. While watching, one can also experience a wide variety of craft beers, which Hunter’s Ale House is fittingly known for. There are 24 beers on tap and a knowledgeable staff waiting to help you find the right one. Hunter’s may be new to the community, but it definitely has already made a splash by bringing Mt. Pleasant a “new taste.” Hunter’s Ale House is located at 4855 East Bluegrass Road.
