AIR SUPPLY in benefit concert on Hallandale Beach, Saturday, March 7th Aventura Marketing Council offering VIP package The legendary soft rock group, Air Supply, will bring their own brand of musical magic to a special engagement concert on Saturday, March 7th, 7 p.m., under the beachside stars at AIA and Hallandale Beach Blvd. With fans around the world still clamoring to hear their smash hits, like "Lost in Love", "Here I Am", The One That You Love", "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" and "Every Woman in the World", Air Supply continues to be a steadfast favorite in the U.S. and internationally, with new fans discovering the delights of listening to this Australian band. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Future Foundation, Inc., a charity celebrating over ten years of providing educational and cultural arts experiences for children. "This is going to be a very special opportunity for everyone to enjoy Air Supply's realm of beautiful music under the stars while helping a wonderful charity," said Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper. According to Aaron Perry, Vice President of Gulfstream Park, "March 7th will be an evening of incredible entertainment by Air Supply. Last time Gulfstream Park featured them, we had to close the doors at 7,000 people!" Air Supply's lead composer Graham Russell, hailing from England, met a young Australian, Russell Hitchcock, while they were cast members of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Australian production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar", and after learning they had a similar love for all things involving music, Russell showed the songs he had written to Hitchcock…thus beginning their partnership that has spanned over 30 years. Russell, composer of most of their worldwide hits all about love, said, "Our songs have meaning for everyone. I don't know of anyone who either isn't in love, just out of love or else wants to be in love." The Aventura Marketing Council is working closely with the City of Hallandale Beach, and has
created a special Aventura Marketing Council VIP package for $250, with the entire $250 being donated to the Future Foundation, Inc. This package includes two VIP tickets for a private reception with Air Supply and eight additional general tickets to share with family, friends or donate to schools or other charities. This VIP package is available only by calling the Aventura Marketing Council at 305-9325334. Individual tickets are $30 each and can be purchased through Ticketmaster outlets, including select f.y.e. and select Simon Malls, The Mall at Wellington Green and Dolphin Mall. To charge tickets by phone, call 1800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be purchased directly at the Hallandale Beach City Hall, 400 S. Federal Highway or Hallandale Beach Cultural Center, 410 SE 3rd Street. The beachside box office will open on Saturday, March 7th at 5 p.m. This is a concert for lovers of all ages… and will go on, rain or shine. 14-year old Joshua Grosso "wows" the Aventura Marketing Council When Joanie Edwards, owner of the Little Theatre School for the Performing Arts, was asked to seek out one of her 'super stars' to entertain at a recent Aventura Marketing Council meeting, she knew just where to turn. One of her scholarship students, 14-year old Joshua Grosso, had been performing professionally for a few years, and would be a perfect match for the business leaders who would be attending the meeting. Joanie knows a winner when she sees one, and said, "Josh is an amazing talent and when I heard that the program was going to be on Super Bowl 2010 coming to South Florida, it only solidified my initial thoughts about whom to bring there." As over 200 Aventura Marketing Council members walked into the meeting room at The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort, they were greeted with the voice and stage presence of an experienced performer...and they couldn't believe that the source of that voice was 14-year old Josh, a student at American Heritage School. From romantic melodies to Broadway and pop, Josh completely captured the audience It was no surprise that many of the members wanted to know how to hire Josh for their events. The answer: call the Little Theatre School at (305) 936-9795 and ask for Joanie Edwards, owner, artistic director, choreographer
and talent manager of Be A Star, Inc. Joanie is a bundle of creative energy and has earned the nickname, "Starmaker." The Little Theatre School has been providing singing, dancing, acting and modeling lessons for talented individuals, from toddlers to seniors, for many years. They boast a distinguished list of professionals, and scores of Joanie's students have been cast in films, TV commercials, musical theatre, runway modeling, music videos, educational films and more. After providing entertainment for the residents of Classic Residence by Hyatt in Aventura, Joanie was asked by Zoe Masterson, sales director, to create a program just for the residents. "Joanie thought about the best way to involve all my residents, "said Masterson, "and we couldn't be more pleased with the results!" Joanie decided to have the residents perform in a musical production which played to a full house of residents' families and friends. They're now enthusiastically working on their fourth production, and the laughter and applause that resounds throughout the place is a sure sign that the decision to hire Joanie was the right one. "We were probably off-key more often than on-key, " said Costin. "But the looks on the faces of the residents told us they didn't really care…a few of them knew the words to the songs and joyfully participated in the songfest. Hampton Inn hosts Miami-Dade Police Lt. Elise Dillard-Gonzalez, Homeland Security Bureau "Suspicious Activity Reporting" (SAR) and "The Seven Signs of Terrorism" were topics of discussion at a recent Aventura Marketing Council Business Development Committee meeting hosted by Hampton Inn Hallandale Beach / Aventura. Miami Dade Police Lt. Elise Dillard-Gonzalez representing the Homeland Security Bureau (HSB) brought to light the seriousness of these issues and the role that the local business community plays to ensure that terrorist events are prevented. Miami-Dade County is one of the pilot cities across the nation for the national initiative of 'Suspicious Activity Reporting'. According to Dillard-Gonzalez, "As a reaction to September 11, 2001, HSB has the primary responsibility of gathering, analyzing, disseminating, maintaining criminal intelligence and homeland security initiatives for the Miami-Dade Police Dept. and providing pertinent information to concerned federal, state and local
law enforcement agencies." Dillard-Gonzalez briefly explained the seven signs of terrorism which include: surveillance; elicitation; testing of security; acquiring supplies; suspicious persons; trial runs; and deploying of assets. These indicators can occur over several months or even years making it extremely important to document information no matter how insignificant it may appear and to inform authorities immediately. "The presentation was very informative and stirred a tremendous interest from the committee who raised many questions and concerns," said AMC Business Development Committee Chairman Peter L. Fishel, CPA. "All who attended left with the thorough understanding that it is the moral and ethical responsibility of every U.S. citizen to keep alert, be vigilant, and report any and all suspicious activity to law enforcement." To report suspicious activity, call the MDPD Homeland Security Tip Line at 1-866-58-ALERT.

Historically Yours BY BOB DIAMOND THE PROMISE IN THE PENDANT The New York Times Store recently featured a most unusual Valentine’s Day heart pendant. It was inspired by a quotation in 1780 by Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s greatest Founding Fathers, to his sweetheart, engraved: “I meet you in every dream.” Being a romantic, I called the Times Store to confirm that Hamilton intended those words for his beloved wife. On the phone, Sonia confirmed that Hamilton uttered those words of endearment to his beloved Eliza Schuyler just weeks before their marriage. In view of subsequent events, most historians would question whether Hamilton lived up to his promise in the pendant. Hamilton, born illegitimate on the Island of St. Nevis and later to become America’s financial genius, engaged in one of the most mystifying cases of bad judgment in American history. In 1791, at age 37 and at the apex of his career as Treasury Secretary, Hamilton began an adulterous affair with 23-year-old Maria
Reynolds while paying “hush money” to her husband James. Astoundingly, Hamilton did not see that he was being set up for blackmail. The more Hamilton learned about “the sleazy James,” the more he thought of ending the affair, however, his vanity led him to believe that Marie truly cared for him. Although he feared exposure, he continued seeing Maria at his own home when Eliza was not there. Hamilton’s political enemies eventually went public with the whole sordid story, including charges that James had profited from the sale of federal securities involving Hamilton. A humiliated Hamilton publicly confessed his sexual involvement with Maria but denied involvement in the sale of securities. He fell from grace and never truly recovered his prior public standing. While all this was going on, Eliza always maintained her deep love for her husband. Hamilton was shot and killed by VicePresident Aaron Burr in their famous duel on July 11, 1804. He left Eliza and seven children deeply in debt. For the benefit of the memory of Eliza and those persons who bought the pendant, I sincerely hope that Hamilton at least fulfilled his promise in the pendant.

Mount Sinai Medical Center receives Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award Mount Sinai Medical Center recently received the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons Outstanding Achievement Award for the second consecutive time demonstrating Mount Sinai's outstanding leadership in cancer care. Mount Sinai is the only hospital in Florida to receive this award, designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients, back-toback. Additionally, the medical center was one of only 39 hospitals nationally to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award. Under the direction of Cancer Committee Chairman Rogerio Lilenbaum, M.D. and administrator Ana Ruiz, Mount

"We're especially proud to have received this approval with commendation and the award because it recognizes the quality of comprehensive cancer care at Mount Sinai Medical Center," said Steven D. Sonenreich, president and CEO. ASK DR. RUTH BY DR. RUTH WESTHEIMER
Time to change the grounds rules Q: I’ve been married over 50 years. About two years ago my wife lost all interest in sex and there seems to be nothing I can do to get her jump-started again. Is there any hope or is our sex life over? A: I can’t tell you whether or not your wife will ever renew her interest in sex. If she feels that she’s missing out, then she should seek professional counseling. On the other hand, even if she never wants to have intercourse with you again, that does not have to mean that your sex life is over but should simply mean that the grounds rules have to be changed. What I’m suggesting is that you have a talk with your wife and tell her that you won’t pressure her into having sex but that you are not yet ready to give up one of life’s great pleasures. Tell her that you still need to be touched and ask her if she
AVENTURANEWS.COM
would continue to caress your genitals without taking a greater role. If she says she’s too tired in the evening, see if she would do it during the morning hours. Hopefully even if her sex drive has been permanently turned off, her love for you hasn’t and she will be willing to offer you the pleasing touch of her hand. Q: I have gained a lot of weight in the last year and I’m very self-conscious about it. This is especially true when it comes to my husband and it has affected our sex life. I’m always on a diet, so don’t tell me to lose weight. How else can I overcome this problem” A: There are two possible routes you could follow. One would be to disassociate your weight problems from your sex life. Have a talk with your husband and tell him that you’re working on trying to lose weight but that in the meantime you still want to have sex with him. I would suggest that you initiate sex so that you’re not left waiting for him to make the first move. If you can’t do that, or if he rejects you, for whatever reason, then you will have to go to a sex therapist. What you have to try to keep in mind is that being overweight is one thing, but you shouldn’t let it affect the rest of your life to the point of wrecking your sex life, which will probably then destroy your marriage. And again, if you can’t do it alone, then go for help.

Joe Geller and Steve Geller find common ground at Greenspoon Marder BY LYNN CARROLL
ROVOCATIVE QUESTIONS FOR PROVOCATIVE PEOPLE and encouraging lawyers to take active roles in community organizations.
LC: You recently merged your own law firm, Geller & Geller, with Greenspoon Marder. What prompted this decision?
LC: You're well known for your community involvement. What are you involved in these days?
JG: Over the years we built quite a good reputation for a small-sized firm, and as a result we were approached by many larger law firms over the years, but Greenspoon Marder was the first that felt right. I talked it over with my brother, Steve Geller, a long-time member of the Legislature, and we just felt that this was the right fit. Our main office is in Ft. Lauderdale, but we have an Aventura office also. Reuben Schneider, who was a name partner with Abrams Anton, a Hollywood firm that merged with Greenspoon Marder a couple of years ago, is also a resident in Aventura. We have offices in Orlando, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and a new one in Stuart, too, so we really have a statewide reach. Joe Geller
Steve Geller
LC: What was it you liked about Greenspoon Marder? JG: Greenspoon Marder stood out for a couple of reasons. The size (about 70 lawyers) was right - large enough to assist us in providing better coverage to our clients, but small enough that no client and no attorney gets lost in the shuffle. There's a dedication to superior client service, to viewing clients as whole people,

JG: I've just completed two terms as Mayor of North Bay Village; I chose not to seek another term. I was Chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party from 1989 through the recount of 2000, and this year I was co-chair for Dade County of the voter protection team working on behalf of the Obama-Biden ticket. I'm President of the American Jewish Congress of the Southeast Region of the U.S. - an organization that fights for civil rights, civil liberties and separation of church and state. So I'm certainly not sitting around watching the grass grow. My brother Steve has just retired from 20 years in the Florida Legislature and is running for a seat on the Broward County Commission next year. We've always tried to be involved in our community as much as possible. We're fortunate to be at a firm that encourages that type of community involvement. Whip out your business cards and get your elevator speech ready! Aventura Marketing Council members recently gathered at Pasha's Biscayne Commons location where they enjoyed speed networking at its best. After enjoying causal networking and a phenomenal breakfast prepared by the Pasha's team, AMC members moved into AMC's much anticipated Lightning Biz program. Lightning Biz is AMC's brainchild, responding to the request from members for more business networking opportunities. The concept is much like famed speed dating only the intent is to generate a dynamic business referral network. With ample business cards in tow, members have three minutes to exchange a quick snapshot of their company profile before moving to the next partner. Members have a chance to meet 20-30 attendees and establish a personal business rapport and a foundation for a prospective business relationship. "Through SpeedBiz, I have identified a number of AMC members who have become clients, says Dimitry Shaposhnikov of DS Xpress. "We could have potentially met at another AMC networking function, however, the Lightning Biz format informally matched me with these prospective clients and gave us a chance to quickly explain how we might help each other."

"We are always looking for ways to improve the SpeedBiz format and bring added value to the AMC membership, ultimately increasing the organization's chief objective, to encourage members to do business with each other," says AMC's Small Business Committee Chair and Aventura Commissioner, Michael Stern of Stern Bloom Media. Pasha's is known for its healthy, all natural, freshly prepared Mediterranean cuisine. With seven locations in South Florida, including their Biscayne Commons location at 14871 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach; Aventura Mall; and Lincoln Road on Miami Beach; Pasha's has also responded to the healthy consumer by opening locations in the Sports Club LA / Four Seasons Hotel on Brickell and the Medical Wellness Center at University of Miami. Serving up a comprehensive Mediterranean menu without the inclusion of the harsh preservatives, additives, Trans fats and MSG, Pasha's offers a healthy approach to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Early orders advised for popular Hanukkah Star from Happy Hanukkah Star Co. BY LYNN CARROLL New on the market for next Hanukkah is a large, one-of-a-kind Star of David from Happy Hanukkah Star Co. If this notice seems out of season, keep in mind that the item sold out so quickly in 2008 that the only way to ensure that you have yours for 2009 is to place an order now. "We expect to be sold out very early this year, too," says Mike Raulson, owner with his wife, Dianne Raulson of Happy Hanukkah Star Co. The star, 5ďŹ feet high and 4 feet wide, comes with complete instructions and suggestions for decoration, including a guide to where you can buy Hanukkah ornaments. The original packing box, 48 inches long by 4 inches square, doubles as a storage container.
"Entirely handmade, the star takes only a half hour to put together, and there are no tools required," Raulson says. Decorating time, of course, depends on how elaborate you want to make it. Among his suggestions are electric candles which, when placed across the top, make the star a large menorah. "It's ideal for public spaces where companies want both Christmas and Hanukkah displays," he says, "such as banks, condominium lobbies, government offices, and the like." "We're a green company and use 100% recyclable solid wood," Raulson says. "Nobody has ever heard of or seen anything quite like this. "Based on my business experience, I estimate it will take us a year or

One of the culinary world's most celebrated figures, Colicchio has won five James Beard awards and is the chief judge on Bravo's "Top Chef." He has parlayed his cooking prowess into a career as an entrepreneur and is now the owner of the Craft group of restaurants, with venues in New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and around the country. The New York Times described the New York Craft restaurant as "a vision of food heaven." The Adrienne Arsht Center's Celebrity Chef Series features enlightening interviews with renowned chefs who discuss their personal culinary journey and give a lively and informative cooking demonstration. Tickets are $25 - $125, VIP tickets are $200 and all are available through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office at 305-9496722 or online at arshtcenter.org
two to get to the point where we can handle an avalanche of orders at the last minute. We're simply not there now." As a result, he says, company executives hope folks will order now so the new company has a handle on how many are going to be needed. Letters soliciting orders are going out soon to synagogues. "We really look forward to helping our friends celebrate the holidays," Raulson says. Cost is $34.95 plus shipping and handling for each star with the added advantage that a portion of every dollar collected will benefit a local Jewish charity. For more information, call Mike Raulson at 786-201-0798.
