ired of jazz festivals that aren’t really jazz festivals? Well look no more! The Miami Jazz Fest is jazz, pure jazz. Scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18 at the Klipsch Amphitheater in Bayfront Park adjacent to Biscayne Bay in Downtown Miami, the event promises to be a lineup of quality jazz performances that will capture the excitement of fans throughout South Florida and beyond. “There are many music festivals that call themselves ‘jazz’ events, but are all too often watered down with other types of music” said Carmen J. Cartiglia, event founder and producer. “The Miami Jazz Fest will be going back to the basics and will bring in some exceptional true jazz artists from around the world.” Saturday night, Nov. 17, will be dedicated to the exotic performances of Brazilian Jazz artists. It will feature a star-studded lineup of international musicians to introduce you to the unique and varied styles of Brazilian Jazz. Then the focus of Sunday, Nov, 18, which includes jazz great Monty Alexander, will be an all-day event that will bring in some swinging, no nonsense, straight ahead jazz performances by world-

Bay Day at Shake-A-Leg brings joy to youngsters

T
he Department of Art and Art History in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami (UM) has announced the relocation of its current presence in the historic Wynwood District. After moving into the Wynwood Building at 2750 NW Third Ave., Suite 4, the name of the space will change from the Wynwood Project Space to the University of Miami Gallery. “The University of Miami Gallery offers a prominent collaborative space for the public to access and enjoy the work of our Art and Art History faculty and students,” said Leonidas Bachas, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “Innovative venues like the gallery deepen our cultural ties to the community, and help our college to remain at Bay Day at Shake-A-Leg organizer, Rotarian Judy Pantoja, helps check in children for their day of fun.

University of Miami Gallery moves to new space in Wynwood District
W
hen you gather the volunteer resources of five great non-profits, any event is certain to be a success. Thanks to the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame and Canes 4 Life working with the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, Shake-A-Leg Miami and the Youth Fishing Foundation, the annual Bay Day was a hit.
Participants included underprivileged kids from CHARLEE Homes, Overtown Youth Center, Leadership Learning Center at John Bosco and a few other non-for-profit organizations with youth programs.
