New director plans bigger role for Miami in movies H

arry Gottlieb is the new man in charge of the City of Miami Film Office and he has big plans to rejuvenate what once was a thriving movie production business in the Magic City. Actually, Gottlieb’s official title is director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Miami, but the Film Office falls under that area of responsibility. “The job really is to help promote the arts and culture in Miami,” Gottlieb said. “But primarily the job as of right now is to facilitate the film industry by providing permits so they can shoot film, photographs and video throughout Miami for

he Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in downtown Miami, organized by FootWorks, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with its annual event on Thursday, Apr. 29. Beginning at 6:45 p.m. in Bayfront Park, 305 Biscayne Blvd., the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series is a tri-county 5K (3.1 mile) Run/Walk that attracts more than 800 South Florida Companies each year. With more than 25,000 runners and walkers expected to participate in the 2010 series, the run continues to grow. The husband and wife team of Hans and Laurie Huseby, founders of the Florida Corporate Run Series, opened their FootWorks running shoe store in South Miami in 1976 because they were avid runners themselves and wanted to provide South Florida runners with a retail location that

t’s the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and Bayfront Park once again will host “Miami Goin’ Green,” an eco-friendly celebration on Saturday, Apr. 24, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will offer live entertainment, hands-on activities for the entire family and nearly 80 green exhibitors. Last year, the event drew some 10,000 people, and organizers plan to exceed those numbers by providing unique exhibitors and an Eco-stage showcasing live performances throughout the day. In addition, it will offer a variety of presentations and seminars covering everything from the fun and light-hearted to serious discussions regarding sustainability. Miami Goin’ Green’s friendly interactive activities include: • U.S. Gas & Electric Bike Valet and Wash — Bike your way to Miami’s Bayfront Park and your bike will be taken care of at this valet. • Dress for Success Miami Presents the Fashion Forward Exchange — Bring lightly worn items that you no longer wear such as suits, dresses, shoes, purses and belts in order to swap them for items that you will wear. Anything that’s left over will go to Dress for Success, a non-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged
