fter much anticipation, the Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA) along with the City of Miami conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official launch of the Downtown Miami Trolley. The ceremony took place on Friday, Apr. 27, with remarks from Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff, Miami DDA Board member Jerome Hollo and Miami DDA executive director Alyce Robertson. “Downtown Miami has the most robust transportation system in the entire state and this new service will create even more options for residents, workers, and visitors,” Robertson said. The Downtown Miami trolley provides service through the Biscayne-Brickell corridor approximately every 15 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The route will travel between SW 26th Road near the Rickenbacker Causeway and NE 17th Terrace near the Omni Terminal. This service will offer residents, workers and tourists in the Downtown area a fun, free way to connect to the area attractions including Brickell Financial District; Mary Brickell Village; Bayfront Park; AmericanAirlines Arena, and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. milestone was reached at Bayfront Park’s free yoga class on Monday, Apr. 23, when the total attendance since the inception of the classes surpassed 75,000. Assuming 525 calories burned during the hour-and-15-minute class, that brings us to more than 39 million calories burned. Free, weekly yoga classes started at Bayfront Park on Monday, Sept. 12, 2005. Eight people attended the class. The class was held every Monday and by May 2006 the classes had become so popular they were expanded to three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays). Currently, average attendance exceeds 100 per class. “This is another proud example of an outstanding free program provided to the public by Bayfront Park,”
