Biscayne Bay Port of Miami introduces new look with 2035 Master Plan

T

he Port of Miami recently introduced its new look with the presentation of the 2035 Master Plan, an ambitious initiative that will guide the port’s growth during the next two decades. “Our port is moving in many new and exciting directions,” said port director Bill Johnson. “The new logo capitalizes on the powerful Miami brand which ranks among the most recognized in the world.” Johnson said the new marketing look aligns the port more closely with its partners at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Downtown Development Authority. The port will retain its legal name as the Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami. The 2035 Master Plan also was endorsed by the Miami-Dade County Commission as a vision for future port development that allows for growth in both the cruise and cargo businesses, but does so without expanding the port’s footprint adjacent to downtown Miami. The master plan supports the port’s sustainability goals and commitment to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. “The master plan dedicates much thought to the surrounding areas and outlines projects that will help preserve it,” Johnson said. “At the same time, it is an ambitious plan that positions the port to play an even more important role as a powerful economic engine — not only for South

rthur H. Hertz was presented with the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) National Human Relations Award during a gala dinner on Dec. 7 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. The American Jewish Committee’s National Human Relations Award is presented to leading members of the business and civic community who have made a significant contribution to the betterment

of life on local and national levels. he Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s official economic development partnership, has announced that Alan Becker, managing shareholder of law firm Becker & Poliakoff, has been named to chair the organization for the 2011-12 year. His position began Oct. 1. “Over the years, Alan has been a real champion for marketing Miami-Dade County to business organizations here and abroad for the purpose of creating more jobs,” said Frank R. Nero, president and CEO of the Beacon Council. “He is well respected and admired throughout Florida and we are fortunate to have him lead our organization as chairman.” Becker has served on the Beacon Council’s board of directors as a regular director since 1996. He also has served as a member of the Executive Committee and as the chair of the International Committee. Becker holds a leadership position in the state of Florida’s economic development organization, Enterprise Florida, where he is a member of the board of directors and a ALAN BECKER member of the six-person Executive Committee. A former state legislator from MiamiDade, Becker is a founding shareholder of
