Biscayne Bay Greater Miami Chamber names Technology Leaders of Year

he Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce honored the winners of its fifth annual Technology Leaders of the Year Awards on Apr. 19 at Jungle Island. The awards luncheon recognized individuals and organizations with extraordinary technological hands-on experience whose management of technology resources and/or technological innovations have made outstanding contributions to their organization and the community. The winners are (by category): Technology Executive — Juan Diego Calle, founder and CEO of .CO Internet SAS, the registry operator for the .CO toplevel domain. .CO was launched internationally in July 2010, and has become one of the most successful domain registries in history, with more than 600,000 domain names registered by people and companies in 200 countries. Te c h n o l o g y C o m p a n y — Accelogic LLC founded in 2005, spun-off from a Bell Labs research program started in 1997. Located in Weston, Accelogic has been for the past few years at the forefront of the High-Performance Computing Industry, becoming recognized worldwide as the pioneer in the design of ultra-efficient algorithms, which have rendered the fastest

oconut Grove artist Lynn Fecteau has been painting beautiful pictures for as long as she can remember, and her work just seems to get better as she moves along in life. “I’ve been painting for my whole life,” she said. “I don’t remember when I never did artwork or didn’t think of myself as an artist. Even as a little kid, I remember doing it.” Fecteau grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ, where the family had a boat and they would spend the summers on the Jersey Shore. Those early days had a profound influence on her. She has developed a cottage industry around her window-framed views of the ocean.
“I was always fascinated by the ocean,” she said. “I loved to sit on the beach or go to the end of the jetty and sit there looking out at the ocean. So, it does make sense that I’m painting oceans now.” Fecteau began painting her ocean windows decades ago and she says they were a hit from the start. The theme has become her trademark work. “I had my first show at the Riviera Country Club many years ago and that was the first window I ever painted,” she said. “It was pretty crude because I didn’t know much about perspective back then. But it sold! Everybody loved it. So I decided to try it

iami Children’s Museum (MCM) delighted more than 500 attendees on Saturday, Apr. 16, with an evening of food, fun and entertainment, that featured a concert by the exciting Village People, and a spirited auction that helped successfully raise more than $1 million for the museum’s programming. The event was chaired by Gisela and Diego Lowenstein along with MCM board chair Jeff Berkowitz. Major sponsors of the event included Berkowitz Development, MasterCard, Miami Heat Charitable Fund, Gloria Martin and Alan Potamkin, and Dr. Brigitt Rok. Guests of the annual Be A Kid Again 2011 Gala were treated with the theme “It’s Never Too Late To Have A Happy Childhood.” Attendees strolled through the museum’s many permanent galleries and even took in the newest special interactive attraction: The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head. All the while they were treated to the delicious creations of Chef David Schwadron. Then everyone moved outside into the Big Tent, which featured a fun disco designed theme by So Cool Events, and were delighted with sweet concoctions by chefs from the Ritz Carlton, Bourbon Steak, Kati Cake World, Alisa’s Painted Bistro, Rococoa and Chef David’s
