Town staff members review plans for upcoming project
18 earn Girl Scouting’s most prestigious award BY CHRISTINA MARTIN he Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida Inc. presented 18 local Girl Scouts with the highest girl-earned achievement in Girl Scouting — the Gold Award. The award ceremony took place on May 3 at Barbara Goleman High School, 14100 NW 89 Ave. Some 90 Girl Scouts also were recognized for earning the second highest honor in Girl Scouting — the Silver Award. The Gold Award recognizes a girl’s personal journey through leadership skills, career exploration, selfimprovement, and service. Prior to beginning a Gold Award project, a girl must earn four Interest Project Patches, Leadership Award, Career Award and Four B’s Challenge: Become, Belong, Believe and Build. First annual ‘Pet Fest’ coming to Cauley Square, June 13-14 BY SHERRY H. MILLER he Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village, located at 22400 Old Dixie Hwy. in Goulds, will be hosting its first annual “Pet Fest” Pet Parade and Pet Pageant on Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The Pet Fest events will feature a Pet Parade on Saturday and a Pet Pageant on Sunday, tentatively slated to begin at 1 p.m. on their respective days. Potential categories to be considered

may include Most Beautiful, Most Fashionable, Most Talented and others to be selected for competing domestic dogs and cats. Cats will be judged in their carriers/cages in a special exhibition area. Sponsors may select categories of support with the title sponsor presenting special gifts to all participants as “The Most Loved” pets. Sponsors and participants may have exhibits at the two-day weekend event and may conduct special seminars, shows and exhibitions on the center stage at Cauley Square where the judging will take
place by VIP’s of the Cat Network. The Cat Network’s unique “Meow Mobile” will be present for adoption of pets to go home with suitable families. Karen Rundquist, Esq., on the board of directors of the Cat Network, expressed enthusiasm on behalf of the organization for the opportunity to reach out into the community to draw awareness to its mission of not only finding homes for rescued animals but for aiding in providing spaying and neutering services at nominal costs to the public.
