Town adds new hybrids as part of ‘Going Green’ BY GARY ALAN RUSE

s part of its ongoing efforts of “Going Green,” the Town of Cutler Bay has added two new Saturn VUE hybrid vehicles to its Code Compliance Department fleet. The hybrids were purchased through the Florida Sheriffs Association bid award in the amount of $25,867 each. “We’re very pleased to have in the hybrid vehicles, and we’re doing everything we can in town to go ‘green’ as quickly as possible,” said town manager Steven J. Alexander. “In many cases, going green has an immediate cost benefit, and this is one of those situations.” According to Town Hall staff, the hybrids are expected to achieve on average 19 percent better fuel economy compared to the traditional gas operated Saturn VUE. ive talented students from south Miami-Dade County recently were named winners in the 2009 Scholarship Awards sponsored by the Caribbean Music Club, which is based in Cutler Bay. The winners: Ramsey Baggs, 13, is a vocalist and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mahoney Baggs. She attends Southwood Middle School and her vocal teacher is Chris Arroyo. Baggs sang Once Upon a Dream from the musical Jekyll and Hyde.
