Museum receives grant for educational program Everyone can be Irish at Gables T Great St. Patrick’s Day Festival BY ROBERT HAMILTON
he Coral Gables Museum recently was awarded a grant by the Villagers for their collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Museum Magnet Program. The pilot program, utilizing students from Shenandoah Middle School, features a HIP (Historically Important Places) HOP tour of significant structures in Coral Gables. Students are guided through venues and discuss issues relating to all aspects of place — cultural, environmental, historical and architectural. Participants are provided with cameras to photograph the venues. At the future site of the museum, the Old Police and Fire Station, students interviewed two retired firefighters, and were guided on a hardhat tour of the building. he South Florida Irish Community invites everyone to join a traditional Celtic celebration during the 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival on Saturday, Mar. 14 (Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day), from noon until sunset. The festival will take place at Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park, 2800 Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables (five blocks south of Miracle Mile). Entertainment will be provided by Avalon featuring the popular Irish singer and harpist Tricianne Garrihy;
