Coral Gables BID names new president, executive board BY MARI GALLET

T

he board of directors of the Business Improvement District of Coral Gables (BID) recently announced the election of Burton Hersh, AIA, principal of Burton Hersh PA, as its new president of the board. Judy Weissel, downtown Coral Gables property owner, was elected vice president; commercial real estate developer and coowner of Daisy Tarsi, Gus Fonte, was appointed secretary/treasurer, and business owner Helena Ulloa, of I. Design Optical, was elected member-at-Large. The remaining 2011 board of directors are: Jose Bolado, Bolado Clothiers; Wayne Eldred, Tarpon Bend; Jennifer Johnson, Jae’s Jewelers; Zeke Guilford, property owner; Abe Ng, Sushi Maki; Brad Rosenblatt, property owner; Michael Wurster, Westin Colonnade Hotel; Maria Anderson, city commission liaison (exofficio); Orlando Abella, GMI Investments, resident advisor (ex-officio), and Denise Erwin, Seasons 52, Coral Gables Chamber liaison (ex-officio). outh Floridians are invited to attend the Miami Area division of the second annual National Food Bloggers Bake Sale on Saturday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd. in Coral Gables. Fairchild Garden is acting as host for the second year in a row to the Miami Area National Food Bloggers Bake Sale, which will occur on the Saturday of the fifth annual Fairchild Artists in Bloom Exhibition and Sale

weekend. Food bloggers and their friends from all over Miami-Dade County and South Florida will feature their favorite baked goods from their blogs and family recipe files. Highlights of this year’s sale include: Local celebrity bakers, Cupcakes Nouveau of Coral Gables and 2 Girls and a Cupcake of Miami, are contributing cupcakes to sell and gift certificates for the raffle. youngest. A world traveler whose efforts have recently afforded her Rotary District 6990’s first Humanitarian of the Year Award, Galperin is praised for her work with the PolioPlus NID (National Immunization Day) program. In fact, giving back has been a way of life for this young woman who has led groups of Rotarian volunteers on five trips to India to help immunize children against polio and was selected by Rotary International to join with two other individuals to participate in an ABC special news report about Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio, which aired on NOELLE GALPERIN Feb. 27. While Galperin was born in Puerto Rico, she moved to South Florida at age 2. After graduation from Palmetto Senior High School, she headed to Wellesley where she graduated cum
