It was a critical vote, perhaps one of the most important votes in the history of Doral. The money will stay here in the city and will be used to make the city an even better place to live, work, learn and play,” said Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez. Mayor Bermudez joined forces with Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene P. It was an early Independence Day celebration for the trio who led the battle to save the three cities an estimated $11.2 million yearly. Doral Visitor Guide debuts The time has come to promote the City of Doral as a destination, says a team producing a new Doral area visitor guide. “We are not ‘West Airport,’ we are “Doral” was the mindset that spurred Editor Steven Lorenzo to begin publication of a Doral Visitor’s Guide, a hardcover book destined for 3,000 hotel guest rooms in the Doral area. “Overall, the hotels have been extremely receptive towards the idea, and they are excited to have the books in their guestrooms because it will be promoting Doral,” Lorenzo said. In return for keeping the books in rooms, Lorenzo custom prints inauguralissues for each individual hotel, providing multiple pages to promote the hotel and meeting spaces. The Guide can be published bilingually (English and Spanish). Lorenzo’s company, International Advertising, Inc. has been doing business out of the Doral area since 1999 and began publishing ‘In-Room’ books

in Cozumel (The Cozumel Visitor’s Guide) in 2006, producing a high quality guide allowing hotel guests to discover the best of what an area. “This is a coffee table-styled book,” he emphasized. “The cover can withstand water and the pages will not tear easily”. Durability is important because books remain in use for 12 months. Lorenzo also provides enough copies to replenish any found missing. Along with area information, photos, and maps of Doral, the content includes the book’s advertisers “to show the guests the best places to shop, dine, and be entertained while they are here,” Lorenzo said, adding that the Guide will reach more than 500,000 hotel guests staying in Doral each year, The Guide’s executive staff includes Lorenzo, editor; Iggy Santisteban, marketing vice president; Sam Saks, account executive; and William Padron, media designer. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL OUR CITY OF DORAL NEIGHBORS The Education Fund’s 12th Annual Charity Auction “The Art ofFound Objects,” was hosted by Ocean Bank at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa on May 2009. Pictured are (l-r) Antonio Mora, News Anchor, CBS-4; Erika Von Tiehl, News Anchor, CBS-4; Nelly Rubio, Community Relations Director, CBS-4; Linda Lecht, President of the Education Fund; A. The Education Fund’s 12th Annual Charity Auction, “The Art of Found Objects,” at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in May showcased more than 170 one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork created by students and teachers in MiamiDade County K-12 public schools, raising $71,000 for the using materials donated by the Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials. The exclusive art lover’s event also featured bids on luxury items, live entertainment, excellent food and an open bar. The annual art exhibition and charity auction combines the power of a child’s imagination with the ultimate recycling program. This year the auction featured remarkable pieces of art created by 436 Miami-Dade elementary, middle and high-school students and teachers representing 33 schools, many in lowincome neighborhoods. Their original works were all crafted from materials “found” at The Education Fund’s Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials. The Center, where more than 15,000 teachers have shopped for free since 1993, is stocked with donated supplies. Many of the students’ unique works addressed conservation and environmental themes such as “Water & Sewer,” “Solid Waste” and the “South Florida Eco-System.” “The charity auction illustrates the unlimited creativity and inspiration our children have to offer when they have the means and support of the community behind them,” said Linda Lecht, president of The Education Fund.

“Ocean Bank has been involved with this art program for the last 15 years,” said A. Alfonso Macedo, president and CEO of Ocean Bank. “As a community bank, we are strongly committed to encouraging student creativity and supporting the arts in education.” This year, more than 400 guests raised $71,000 to benefit art programs in Miami-Dade County public schools. Among the attendees were philanthropists and art collectors Myrna and Sheldon Palley, Kirk Landon, Donn Golden and Brenda Bassett, as well as representatives from community businesses and organizations such as Raj Rawal, CIO of Burger King, Modesto Abety, President of The Children’s Trust and Bert Hucks, CIO of Four Eyes. Since 1985, The Education Fund has worked side-by-side with the private sector to direct resources where they are needed most in Miami-Dade schools. Their mission is to design and implement initiatives to improve our schools and bring excellence to public education in Miami-Dade. The Education Fund engages the entire community in making educational excellence a top priority and ensuring that every child learns and succeeds in the Miami-Dade County public schools. The Education Funds programs benefit all of the 390-plus schools, 22,000 teachers and 340,000 students in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Ocean Bank is the largest independent state chartered commercial bank headquartered in Florida, with $4.6 billion in assets.

Your Hearing, Specialized by the Duran Family Can you hear conversations, but not understand the words clearly? Does it sound like others are mumbling? This could be the first indication of hearing loss. As people begin to lose their hearing, volume does not necessarily decrease, like lowering a radio. It actually feels more like listening through a broken speaker, where you can hear but not understand what was said. To make matters worse we may lose more volume in some frequencies than others causing conversations to sound muffled and difficult to follow. Dr. Joseph K. Duran can help you understand your hearing loss and determine if hearing aids are right for you. Select the most appropriate technology for your lifestyle with the help of our exclusive “Choice Fitting Program “. Our program takes into account the for main factors that go into selecting the right hearing aid for your needs:
