$95,226 noise study underway at airport BY RICHARD YAGER consultant to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department has begun an evaluation study of K e n d a l l - Ta m i a m i Executive Airport operations to determine if noise abatement procedures are necessary to relieve continuing complaints from nearby residents. Environmental Science Associates conferred with a 12-member citizen advisory committee in mid-March to review the scope of a recently approved program, soon after award of a $95,226 contract by MDC officials on Mar. 4. “It appears as a very positive forward step,” said Miles E. Moss, president of Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations (KFHA) and organizer of a citizen group last year after a special meeting on Sept. 15 at The Crossings in Kendall. “The consultant has already met once with the group, and I understand noise monitors have already been placed in six homes in locations near the airport for continuous measure of aircraft noise,” Moss said. “The committee members were pleased with the explanation given by the consultancy and the level of cooperation expressed by Mr. [Norman] Hegedus, administrator for the MDC airport environmental programs.” A second meeting is planned in June to update the committee on the consultant’s progress, added Moss who noted contract dating indicated a full report could be ready for review by July. A 12-page Scope of Services submitted by ESA allows four months (120 days) for submission of its findings with “progress reporting” as part of a management
