E. Kendall Council rejects rail option BY RICHARD YAGER
se of a CSX freight line corridor in East Kendall for passenger rail service was rejected by Community Council 12 during a meeting on May 20. The 4-to-2 vote came on a resolution drawn to provide input for a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Corridor Study of potential transportation uses. Objecting to the decision were members Angela Vazquez, who said, “On principle, we should be voting for positives rather than negatives,” and Jose Garciga, who thought it illogical to act on any single study element before the full report was completed and reviewed. They were outvoted by Carla Ascenscio Savola, Jose Valdes, Alberto Santana and council chair Elliott Zack who said the resolutions were “a proactive way of influencing the corridor study direction” by reinforcing what residents have indicated they preferred, not rejecting use of the corridor itself.
