M
ary S. Fernandez joined the staff of the Village of Palmetto Bay at the end of May to become program and events coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department. Fernandez is married with two children — a two-and-a-half-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl. She and her family live across from Palmetto Bay near the Falls area. “Even though I’m technically not a resident, Palmetto Bay is my stomping grounds,” Fernandez said. “This is where I shop and these are the parks that my kids come to every weekend —either Palmetto Bay Park or Coral Reef Park. I adore this area. It’s beautiful, with all the facilities and the resources that we have here, having the library, being by the water. “Once I had kids, all these things

izcaya Museum and Gardens, Miami’s extraordinary European-inspired estate on Biscayne Bay, is seeking part-time, paid Learning Programs Facilitators. Learning Programs Facilitators will help engage school students and educators in onsite learning experiences in the arts, history, and environment. Facilitators also will lead tours for school students (grades 4-12) in the Main House and gardens, and support Vizcaya’s institutional visitor services operations. he Village of Palmetto Bay recently recognized the outstanding commitment of Palmer Trinity student Tyler Kalbac, graduate in the Class of 2010 and a Silver Knight Award winner in the field of athletics. Mayor Eugene P. Flinn Jr., together with the village council, recognized Kalbac by designating July 12, 2010, as “Tyler Kalbac Day.” Kalbac’s parents, Dan and Beth, and his sister, Ashley, attended the event.
In the proclamation, Tyler Kalbac’s life accomplishments are described as follows: “While Tyler’s noteworthy athleticism won him various positions on four varsity teams, he met his greatest challenge when he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in his sophomore year and, although his severe symptoms eventually led to ileostomy surgery, Tyler Kalbac recovered and came back strong in sports as the captain of his baseball team, kicker and safety for football, and goalkeeper for the soccer
