pril showers bring May flowers…and Sunny Isles Beach is certainly “blooming” with activity as the month of May kicks off with “something for everyone” events and programs planned by the city’s Cultural and Human Services Department. ‘DON’T WORRY - BE HEALTHY!’ In keeping with the city’s goal to make the good and welfare of the community a top priority, the month of May will feature two health oriented events: On May 8, a blood drive by the Community Blood Centers of South Florida will be held at the Government Center first floor meeting room; and on May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon Mt. City makes several changes to enhance public safety

ecently the Sunny Isles Beach Ocean Rescue Division (Ocean Rescue) was moved from the Department of Cultural and Community Services to the Police Department in order to bring both public safety operations under one roof. Ocean Rescue, which is led by Justin Broman, Ocean Rescue Manager, became part of the newly formed Community Policing/Special Operations Unit, which is led by Sgt. Lee Athanasiou. Sgt. n June of 1997, a group of community activists realized a dream with the incorporation of the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Fifteen years later, residents celebrate this “World Class City” with a week of
events for the community. The festivities begin on Sunday, June 10th, with the kick-off event, the International Olympics, at Pelican Community Park, from 2pm – 6pm. Guests can create teams of 4 to 6 players to compete in fun, family-style field games, including bean bag toss, bocce, and much more!
