Rain couldn’t halt the Team Around Town FootWorks Twilight 5K A whole lot of moving

BY EDDIE SUAREZ

he June 7th, TeamFootWorks Twilight 5k was a great success. Even though rain dampened the early part of the evening, the race still brought more than 1600 participants into South Miami, a 20 percent increase over last year. Overall Winners Bud Grote and Trish Butler not only took home top honors but also were awarded a pair of ASICS running shoes. Michael Estevez, Nancy Streb, Patrick Flood, Bill Convey, Tachi Llamas, James Brenan, Jeffrey Bass, and Recinda Sherman were the 8 lucky participants chosen at random who also won a pair of ASICS. Town Kitchen and Bar served up post-race goodies and Miller Beer poured Miller 64 to the adults. After the race, kids nine years old and under took part in the Kids Fun Run and each was given a medal. Cheers and laughter filled the air as the sun set on a fun evening. Cub Scout Pack 615, Den 2 Tiger Cubs, paid a visit to the offices of Community Newspapers, publisher of The South Miami News, on May 30 for a behind the scenes tour. Pictured (l-r) are Jacob Azcuy, David Reyna, Connor Valdes, Joseph Pereira and Kyle James. “One of the things that the cub scouts have to do to earn their merit badges is go to a communications center, either a newspaper or TV station,” said Rich James, a scouting parent and a Patrol Sergeant with the SMPD. “It was quite an experience for them, and they enjoyed it.” Thanks guys for dropping by the office and reading the South Miami News.

and shaking going on BY MICHAEL MILLER <Michael@communitynewspapers.com>

Kent Crook is going places. Many, many places. As I was out and about the last couple of weeks, who did I see over and over again? None other than Kent Crook from KC Wiremasters Electric. This guy was at a Chamber South meeting, then he was at our office, then I saw him at a political fundraiser in West Kendall and then I ran into him at Casa Lario’s in South Miami. This guy is a mover and shaker and a pretty darn good electrician too, so as the saying goes, Shop LOCAL, and if you need a great electrician, call Kent at 305385-9379.
