‘The Lion King’ roars to life at Pelican Community Park

or anyone interested in running for a seat on the Sunny Isles Beach City Commission, living within city limits has always been a requirement – but now if voters approve a charter amendment, candidates will also have to have lived within the particular residential area they’re seeking to represent continuously for at least one year at the time of qualifying. The “atlarge” mayoral seat is exempt from this proposed requirement. Beyond having to reside within the district being represented, the

he Pelican Community Park’s very own Youth Musical Theatre “ Work in Progress” took the stage on March 30 as they brought a piece of the famous Broadway Musical The Lion King to life. Students presented a small extract from a magnificent and pulsing spectacle driven by primal African rhythms. The viewers could only marvel at the exotic procession of animals before them: the giraffes, and zebras, and elephants and all those colorful birds. The show “work in progress” was short but quite enchanting. Smooth moves of young dancers, clad in animal-print costumes with masterfully painted faces, beautiful stage décor, and the powerful tunes held everybody’s attention from start to finish. wildlife. The performing students and their teachers received a standing ovation for their beautiful performance. The City of Sunny Isles Beach has opened enrollments into the new Musical Theater Camp for the summer 2011. Along with the other Specialty Day Camps such as
