hortly after Sunny Isles Beach incorporated in 1997, residents voted against changing the name of the city to Aventura Beach in order to maintain a unique identity. Fifteen years later, in keeping with the “spirit of independence” efforts are being made to acquire an autonomous Sunny Isles Beach zip code - currently “33160.” At the June 21 City Commission meeting, a resolution was passed expressing support for the establishment of a unique zip code - a mission originally initiated by Vice Mayor Lewis Thaler. “In 2007, I tried to get Sunny

The City’s Summer Camp Fun Off to a Great Start
T
he City of Sunny Isles Beach Summer Day Camps are well under way and every day brings tons of fun for our campers. Camp activities include arts & crafts, indoor games, outdoor sports, themed-activities, and for most camps, field trips. New youngsters are often teary-eyed the first couple of days, but once they realize what a great place this can be for them, they don’t want to go home. Some of the field trips this year include enjoying a kite day at Haulover Beach, the Gold Coast Railroad Museum, the Davie Pro Rodeo, Miami Shores Aquatic Center, Rapids Water Park, Revo Soccer (Indoor glow-in-the-dark soccer complex), Venetian Pool, Zoo Miami, and much more! Fun daily activities and competitions are included at all age levels that exercise the muscles as well as the
