n an effort to help keep the streets of Sunny Isles Beach safe for residents and visitors the Police Department’s Traffic Unit has been educating the public about traffic laws - especially those most associated with violations and safety hazards. Police Chief Fred Maas emphasizes, “If one life is saved, one accident is prevented, or one driver is kept from receiving a citation because they are now better educated in the law, then our purpose has been served.” Maas explains, “It’s unbelievable what we as ‘cops’ see and hear from motorists and pedestrians, while handling traffic in our city.
City of Sunny Isles Beach has completed another successful program: Summer Camps 2011, provided by the joint efforts of Pelican Community Park’s staff. Almost 500 children were able to attend those camps this summer. Along with traditional camps, the city had offered a number of Specialty Camps this summer: Musical Theatre, Circus, Art of Superheroes, Lego Robotics. Musical Theater campers were introduced to different dance styles such as Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary

lash back to 2010 and picture a small reception hosted in a lovely room for a select few guests. In the past, the Thursday night Jazz Fest kickoff art auction charity fundraiser was a small invitation only event. This year in an effort to involve more of the community and raise awareness for the charities, a new twist is being put on the auction event. Presenting the food trucks! On Thursday, October 13 from 5:30 – 10:00 p.m. the City will host the Biscayne Triangle Truck Round-up (BTTR). This popular group of food trucks will be parked at 200 – 201 Drive for residents to take a night off from cooking and bring the family out to enjoy music from a DJ and food available for purchase. But back to the auction, each year a new artist is asked to design an original work of art for the Jazz Fest. This year’s artist is Stephen
