All original dark brown leather on heavy boards, raised bands, gilt spines, marbled end pages and marbled fore edges on volume 4. Engraved portrait of the author, printed titles in red and black with engraved vignettes, engraved dedication vignette, finely engraved headpieces, tailpieces and initials, fine engravings of medals throughout the text. An important work. Bindings show some fairly substantial shelf wear, all spines cracked but still intact, volume 4 shows some insect holes on the cover. (Leipzig, 1881). 1791, lxii pages, a few text illustrations. Quarter-leather with heavy boards. Evidently a rare work, the first we have seen and not in Clain-Stefanelli. 3. Cooper, Denis. The Art and Craft of Coin Making. (London, 1988). 64 pages, illustrated throughout, glossy laminated boards. Written by the retired Chief Engineer of the Royal Mint, this well illustrated work explores the coin making process as it has evolved since the Renaissance. Long out of print and in great demand, as the only reference available on the techniques used by mints to strike coins. Light corner bump, otherwise a very fine copy. ($200) From the Dr. Lawrence A. Original maroon cloth, gilt lettering, top edge gilt. The scarce original edition of this still useful work. Lot also includes a copy of the 1965 reprint edition of this same work.
