Fire companies throw bashes in two towns by Christopher Cornell ADVANTAGE EDITOR
Warm summer nights are here and the annual roll call of area festivals is continuing. Coming up next are two festivals brought to you by your local fire company. Already underway is Queen City Nights, sponsored by Olyphant Hose Co. No. 2 and Olyphant Hose Co. No. 8. It runs Friday and Saturday, July 10-11, at Willow St. and Nestor Chylak St. featuring food, amusement rides and games for kids, clams, bingo (sponsored by SS. Cyril’s and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church), basket raffles, vendors and, naturally, a beer tent. A firefighter’s parade will take place Saturday at 7 p.m. The live music schedule includes The Tommy Guns Band on Friday and The Fallen on Saturday. Call 570-489-3473 or visit engine262.com for more information. Starting up on Wednesday, July 15 and running for four nights is the annual Corn and Clam Slam, sponsored by the William Walker Hose Co., 803 Penn Ave. in Mayfield. The festivities get under way at 5 p.m. each night and the entertainment starts at 8 p.m. each night. Admission is free. A new addition this year will be carnival rides and attractions. The entertainment schedule includes Black Tie Stereo (July 15), Jigsaw Johnny (July 16), Graces Downfall (July 17) and the Jeffrey James Band (July 18). The Corn and Clam Slam Parade steps off Saturday, July 18, at 7 p.m. Discounted pre-sale ride tickets are now available at both the Mayfield and Jermyn Borough Buildings during regular business hours. Pre-sale pricing is 10 tickets for $6. Tickets at the event will cost $10 for 10 tickets. Visit cornNclamslam.com for more information.
