SUBURBAN

First up: Seeking some creative cooks

by Christopher Cornell

ABINGTON SUBURBAN EDITOR

Something’s always happening at the Abington Community Library, 1200 W. Grove St. in Clarks Summit, but right now the staff is in search of a few good cooks and bakers from the neighborhood. It’s time for Tasting by the Book II, following up on the success of last year’s initial fundraising experiment. “Tasting by the Book II is a way to get involved in the community and support the library by participating in what you love to do: cook or bake,” explained Leah Ducato Rudolph, the library’s director. “This adults-only fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, 7 to 9 p.m., allows you to share your passion with the community by cooking or baking an item to share ‘a taste’ of. You will join 30 other community cooks dishing out bite-sized samples of their specialty to 120 lucky ticket buyers, who then get to bid on items to be prepared at a later date.” Cooks also provide a quantity (their choice) of the same item to the highest bidder at a mutually agreed upon date before September of 2017. Cooks and bidders make this transaction at the library. To become one of the featured community cook, visit surveymonkey.com/r/CBFSQ3B. Community cooks will receive one free ticket to the event. Tasting cups, plates, napkins, forks, spoons, table cloths and decorations will all be provided. While you’re waiting for tickets to go on sale, here’s a list of just some of the activities scheduled at the library for adults. • Caring Hands: Mondays, 1-3 p.m. Group creates things for the library and for the less fortunate.
