A revolution in Paris is coming to Throop. The Mid Valley Drama Club’s Underwood Players have been working six days a week for months at the high school in Throop to make their production of ‘Les Miserables’ a show that the community will never forget. The demanding musical, one of the hardest among all Broadway productions, is set in France during the 19th Century France. It was performed more than 6,000 times during its initial Broadway production. Producer and director Patricia Powell had high praise for the work the students have done. “The cast has a wonderful chemistry,” she said. “Each year my students show an excitement for their spring production, but this year something profound is happening. My students are passionate about this show, and they are surpassing my expectations for the challenging singing and acting demands. Our musical director, Linda Orseck, has helped the students to reach all of our goals.” Among the other adults overseeing the production, in addition to Powell and Orseck, are Shelly O’Malley, acting

coach, Kelley Dougherty, choreographer and Nicolo Manzo and John Lasewicz, sound technicians. “I wish I had joined drama club in my younger years,” senior Gabby Rotel commented, “because I have learned so much about theater.” ‘Les Miserables’ is Rotel’s first production with the club, but the club also has its veterans, including Dylan Tackley, who played Will Parker in last year’s production of ‘Oklahoma!’ According to Tackley, “drama club means something special to everyone. The club offers students a chance to push themselves and to feel applause for a job well done.” Senior Justin Kucharski plays Javert. Damien Chmielewski will play Enjolaras. play Thenardier and Madame Thenardier, respectively. “Our director spends hours making sure everything is the best it can be,” said senior Angel Ortiz, who plays multiple roles in the show. The cast is dedicated to making this the best Mid Valley production ever, and it really shows when we are onstage. Everything is falling into place perfectly.” Tickets for the Friday, March 31, and Saturday, April 1, shows at 7 p.m. are on sale now for $10 general admission. Tickets are on sale now at the secondary center between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, or at the door.
