Summer weekends, for most people, are reserved for relaxation, recreation and just plain fun. But this weekend the area provides several ways to have a great time and help a worthy cause. The Friends of the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter will hold its fourth annual motorcycle run to benefit, you guessed it, the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter Sunday, June 14, beginning and ending at Legend’s Saloon, 750 Boulevard Ave. in Dickson City, and the neighboring freight station. Registration will be 9-11 a.m.; kickstands up at 11 a.m. The run includes stops at Blue Pelican at Lake Winola, the Windsor Inn in Jermyn and Benneco’s in Hamlin. The suggested donation is $15 for each rider and $5 for each passenger. Riders may also register and donate online at firstgiving.com/fundraiser/ gpas/legendsmotorcyclerun. Following the run, a cookout with musical entertainment by DJ Jason Miller will be held at Legend’s Saloon, 1-4 p.m. Admission to the cookout is $5. Raffle baskets and donations are appreciated and may be taken to Legends Saloon prior to the day of the event. With the support of our community, the team at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter has been able to provide emergency veterinary care for sick, elderly and injured animals. “Nancy Vrabel [the lead coordinator for the event] started the Motorcycle Run and we are so appreciative of all her outstanding efforts each year to help provide funding for the shelter animals in need of medical care,” said shelter representative Jess Farrell. “We are excited that the Dickson City Freight Station [DCFS], which is more than 100 years old, will be part of this wonderful community event,” said Jennifer Macknosky, a freight station committee representative.
