The Mid Valley High School Drama Club, under the direction of Patricia Powell, will present the acclaimed musical “Fiddler on the Roof” Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 52 Underwood Road in Throop. Tickets are $8 and the box office can be reached at 570-307-1150. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. The show, written by Joseph Stein, is the story of Russian farmer Tevye, his wife Golde, and their five daughters. The story is a literary example of the torment and displacement experienced by the members of the Jewish faith around the world and features several songs that have become standards, such as “Tradition,” “Sunrise-Sunset,” “To Life” and “If I Were a Rich Man.” “We are very excited for this year,” said drama club co-president Chantal Whiteduck. “‘Fiddler on the Roof’ is going to be one of the best shows yet at Mid Valley, and no one is going to want to miss it. Our cast is very experienced, and our talented singers and dancers are bringing a timeless story to the stage. I have the distinct honor or assisting in the choreography with Mrs. [Amanda] Forgione, one our faculty members who has worked with Mrs. Powell since she was a student at Mid Valley and a member of the Drama Club.” Powell has been the director of Mid Valley Drama Club shows since 1986. Her production team includes musical conductor Linda Orseck, Forgione and Michelle O’Malley, another alumni who has been working with Powell since she too was a member of the Mid Valley Drama Club. The students have been rehearsing and building the show since the first week of November.

Participation among the students has been strong this year, Powell said. “Next to the ‘The Music Man’ in 2001, this year’s audition roster saw one of the largest responses from the students. Nearly 90 students auditioned for the show. All of these auditions translated into a huge cast of hard-working, dedicated and talented actors. Many of them are juggling jobs, strict academics and sports. Nevertheless, the students are united and meeting the demands of an exhausting rehearsal schedule.” The main ensemble will include Nicolo Manzo (a veteran of Mid Valley productions) as Tevye, Marja Bjornstad as Golde, Jen Walters as Yente the matchmaker; John Lasiewicz as Lazar Wolf; Cory Conserette as the rabbi and Sarah Bjornstad (grade 6) as the fiddler. Whiteduck will portray Tzeitel, Justin Kucharski plays Motel, and Jessica Bonacci plays Hodel. Alex Varaksa plays the radical Perchick, Becky Marchel plays Grandma Tzeitel; Gianna Manzo plays Chava; Nick Borgacci plays Fyedka, Con-
