On Saturday, June 17, Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, 347 Quiet Valley Road in Stroudsburg, will open for its 54th summer tour season starting with the 10th annual Summer Garden Party. Visitors coming to the farm for the historic tour will experience guides portraying family members going about a typical day on a homestead in the 1800s. In addition to the tour, visitors will have a chance to involve themselves in a variety of garden-related activities. Tour a typical Pennsylvania German kitchen garden, get help with garden basics, sample dishes made with fresh herbs and vegetables and take home some recipes. At the outdoor brick oven herb breads will be baked and samples shared. This year’s feature area, “outdoor living space,” will have an example of a comfortable gathering place for families looking for some fresh air and relaxation at home, complete with a Zen gravel bed. There will be new adventures at the party includ-

ing two food demonstrations, dutch oven cooking with fresh herbs and easy herb cheese making. Older youth and adults can create birds using wire and paper as well as quilled flower mobiles. The children’s area will have summer craft activities with insect creatures, 3D flower cards and bubble pictures. Visitors are welcome to hang some artwork from the tree featured in the theme area. There will also be Father’s Day chicken barbecue fundraiser on Saturday. The cost is $12 per person with an $8 meatless option available. There will be two serving times: 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. with the option to eat in or take out. Menu will include barbequed chicken Quiet Valley-style baked potato with fixings, fresh coleslaw, homemade cornbread, desserts and beverage. Reservations are strongly suggested.
