Many people are exposed to tragedy and are moved to help those in need, but few take the extra step to found a nonprofit organization. Even fewer are 14-year-old high school students. Angel Kropiewnicki, a former Mid Valley student who is now a Scranton High School freshman, founded the 501(c)3 nonprofit ARK Helps to assist anyone in the community. The organization’s first event, ARK Fest, takes place Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Atmosphere Rooftop Lounge at the Carbondale Grand Hotel. “For the past couple years, I’ve wanted to help people in any possible way,” she said. “I’ve seen tragic events happen. A person in my school had a fire in their house, that was one example where I said, ‘Wow, I wish I could help them other than donating clothes and things like that.’ My dad helped me out, and eventually we created a nonprofit organization.” Angel’s father Eric Kropiewnicki assisted with Please see ARK, Page 4
