Santa is planning several special visits in the area

The big day is a week away, and during that week, organizations around the area, especially fire companies, will be helping Kris Kringle make special visits in our area. Here are some of the stops he’s planning. • Jessup: Jessup Hose Co. No. 2 will again help Santa tour the streets of Jessup on his sleigh, as they have done for the past 52 years. Santa will arrive at Fire Station No. 25, 333 Hill St., at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, and proceed to tour the uptown area of the borough (south of Lane and Erie Streets) on Friday night. On Saturday, Dec. 19, the tour will begin at 3 p.m. and Santa will complete his rounds by touring the Downtown and Winton sections of the borough. • Archbald: In a tradition that goes back more than 50 years, Santa, Mrs. Claus and some elves will visit the East Side Hose Co. No. 4 fire station, 458 Salem Road, Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. and for the rest of the afternoon, they will canvass the community to distribute more than 750 bags of candy. Anyone wishing a special personal visit from Santa within the community can call at 570-876-1524 leave a name, address and call-back number. • Eynon: Wozniak-Pavloski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7963 in Eynon, Ambrose Revels American Legion Post No. 328 in Archbald, John Niedzinsky American Legion Post No. 624 and Eynon Fire Co. Engine No. 3, will hold a children’s Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 19, noon to 3 p.m., at the VFW post home, 284 Main St. in Eynon. • Mayfield: Several area fire companies, including Mayfield Hose Co., Whitmore Hose Co. and William Walker Hose Co. will again help Santa tour the borough Saturday, Dec. 19, beginning at 4 p.m. on the west side of town.

Parents of ill or homebound children should call 570-766-2959 as soon as possible to schedule a visit. Also in Mayfield, the Mayfield Lions Club will hold its annual “Visit with Santa” on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2-3 p.m. at the Saint John’s Center on 703 Hill St. in Mayfield. Pizza and refreshments will be served and there will be a sing-a-long of traditional Christmas songs and Santa will read “A Visit From St. Nicholas.” A complimentary picture will be taken of each child on Santa’s lap. Admission is free. • Throop: The Throop Civic Center, 500 Sanderson St., will show “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Saturday, Dec. 19,
at 6 p.m. Bring your pillows and blankets. There will be light snacks, arts and crafts projects and a visit from Santa. • Blakely: The Blakely Hose Co. will drive Santa through the streets of the borough Sunday, Dec. 20, beginning at 1 p.m. • Peckville: Santa Claus will tour the Peckville section of Blakely Borough Wednesday, Dec. 23, starting at 5 p.m., riding on the Wilson Fire Co. No. 1 fire truck. Candy will be distributed to all children en route.
