Plenty of options for celebrating Halloween

by Christopher Cornell TRIBORO BANNER EDITOR

If you’re looking for fun, spooky — and safe — ways to celebrate Halloween, you have several options over the next two weekends. • The Shoppes at Montage will hold its ninth annual Safe Trick-or-Treat Saturday, Oct. 24, noon to 2 p.m. (rain date Sunday, Oct. 25). Participating merchants will pass out candy and novelties to children in costume ages 12 and younger. • The Duryea Recreation Board will hold a Halloween party Saturday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m. at Healey Playground on Foote Ave. There will be food, candy and a haunted house. Costumes are encouraged. Meet at the VFW, 492 Stephenson St., at 3:30 p.m. for a hayride to the park. • The Electric City Trolley Station and Museum will host “The Electric City Trolley Halloween Fest” Sunday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature a trolley ride, Halloween games, art activities, refreshments and a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded for the prettiest, scariest, funniest, most original and best superhero costume. Contest winners will be announced at 1 p.m. The all-inclusive admission for children 10 years-old and younger is $10, which includes a trolley ride. The trolley ride for adults is $3, and the museum admission for accompanying adults is free. Call 570-963-6590 for additional information. • The Lackawanna Heritage Valley (LHV) will host a S’mores Party on the Trail Sunday, Oct. 25, 2-4 p.m. on the Central New Jersey (CNJ) Extension of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (between Elm Street in Scranton and Depot Street in Taylor). The event features s’mores and hot chocolate, music by Pat Quinn and the Heritage Trail Blazers, a spooky story time with Taylor Community Library, pumpkin decorating, Native American singing and dancing and a scarecrow-making party. (Kids may bring old clothes, hats and scarves to dress up their scarecrows. LHV will supply bases and stuffing, while quantities last.)
