Narrative pleasures

How does the programme address the audience?

Specific examples from this episode

Identification e.g. The audience identify with Alan Davies when he says the obvious answer… Part of the group e.g. The camera uses shot/ reverse-shot to show us reactions when Stephen Fry talks, so we feel like we are involved. e.g. The guests laugh and we laugh with them. Type of humour e.g. The humour uses word puns and references to things that the audience are familiar with, such as jokes about Rupert Murdoch. Familiarity/ Predictability e.g. Alan Davies makes the ‘in-joke’ of “Blue Whale”, and this happens in lots of episodes so that it is familiar.

Variety e.g. The guests are varied each episode and the buzzer sounds are different each time.
