Nursing provides a service, the basis of which is a core process where the nurse aims to promote, maintain, and restore the optimum state of health for each individual. The Adventist College of Nursing (ACON) was established in 1993, now the Adventist College of Nursing and Health Sciences (ACNHS) offers a 3-year Diploma in Nursing and a 2-year Assistant Nurse Certificate Course.

The College offers full-time and experienced tutors. Besides being qualified in their areas of speciality, they are dedicated to providing excellent quality education.

Tutors and instructors have majored in areas such as Community Health, Obstetrics, Neonatal, Intensive Care and Cardiothoracic Nursing. All tutors hold B.S. Degrees and many have Masters Degrees.

Applicants with excellent academic results are selected to be sponsored by Penang Adventist Hospital. Upon completion of the course, graduates are bonded to the hospital. Sponsorship includes the following benefits: •Registration fee • Free tuition • Monthly stipend • Subsidised board and lodging • Medical benefits according to College policy • Nursing uniform and shoes • Transportation for field experiences • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification • Employment is available at the end of programme completion

It has been committed to educating knowledgeable, competent, and compassionate nursing professionals. All the alumni are employed in a variety of healthcare settings throughout the country as well as abroad. With the educational programmes, a long-standing tradition of providing quality healthcare education continues.

The ACNHS was first located in a four-story building, the Adventist Court, across the road from the Hospital. In November 1998, the College was relocated to a six-story building on the hospital compound. The strength of the institution lies in its ability to continue expanding because of the strong commitment to develop qualified and compassionate nurses.

In July 2010, the ACNHS vacated the building it resided in for the past 12 years.

It moved across the street to an expanded area that continues to allow for growth and the addition of health science programmes in the future.

College Facilities that are available in the College include: • Fully air-conditioned educational facilities• Classrooms with LCD projector • Comprehensive library • Large up-to-date Skillslab • Auditorium • Computer laboratory for online and course work • CCTV-monitored security system for the College and its dormitory entrances.

Entry Requirements • Malaysian citizen • Male or female • 18 years of age or above • Physically and mentally healthy • Ability to communicate effectively Academic qualification: Diploma : Minimum 5 credits in SPM Certificate including Bahasa Malaysia,

English, Mathematics and at least one Science Subject. STPM

Certificate holders are encouraged to apply.

A.N. : SPM Certificate with at least 2 credits and must pass in Oral Bahasa

Malaysia and Oral English.

Programmes The 3-year Diploma Programme in Basic Nursing commences in July each year, while the intake for the 2-year Assistant Nurse Programme is every January. Both programmes are fully accredited by the Board of Nursing Malaysia and MQA (Malaysian Qualification Agency), and approved by the Ministry of Education.

Students are taught a wide range of subjects in Basic Sciences, Nursing Sciences and Behavioural Sciences.

Self-Sponsored Students Based on availability of places in the current intake, self-sponsored students are accepted by our College. Fees include: • Registration fee • Tuition • Clinical uniform and shoes • Transportation (Field/ Community experiences) • Dormitory accommodations • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification

Application Process Submission of application letter should include the following: • Certified copy of Identity Card (both sides have to be certified) • Certified copy of Birth Certificate • Certified copy of SPM / STPM Certificate / Result Slip

The student dormitory is located at the Adventist Court which is within easy walking distance from the College and Penang Adventist Hospital. The furnished apartment residences are equipped with kitchen and laundry utilities, recreational facilities such as table tennis and badminton court and 24-hour security.
