I am unsure of the benefits of the Queen/ monarchy being our head of state. What support was extended to us (all the former colonies)? What opportunities? Did they aid our growth and development? It’s like they’re a useless figurehead that has not added any value
The Queen has been on the throne for 70 years, she was such an iconic figure almost like a backdrop in my life, as a Guyanese. I remember not just who she was or what she represented but how that connected me to myself. Her death is not just the end of her life but rather my own passing through life. She was and will always be the definition of a true matriarch, and monarch
Based on my age, I would have only heard about the existence of a Queen - I have had zero direct or indirect contact with her rule. I, however, never gave much thought to her lineage and what it truly represents before now. Death is always a hard thing to grapple with, but I cannot relate to such a loss as intimately as others. Her passing, however, has piqued my interest to gain a greater understanding of the Monarchy and what it all means
As a person with roots in a former British Colony, how do you feel about the passing of the Queen and the British Monarchy?

My condolences to Queen Elizabeth’s family through this time of grief. I imagine they will take this time to reflect on the life of Elizabeth as a family member. As far as the monarchy, that is not something I personally recognize as a fiduciary or governing body but more so a governing state of oppression. My hope is that her successor recognizes and resolves the oppressive legacy she and her family have left behind

I feel like we need to do away with the Monarchy altogether. It's an outdated institution. In terms of it passing to her son, I feel like once he cheated and divorced his wife, he should have been forced to abdicate the throne to marry his mistress
The Queen’s passing was of little significance to me We have not been under Britain’s direct rule for decades so she was just another person to the average Jamaican or Jamaican descendant. She’s only lucky that she got away without having to pay a dime to all the countries colonized and robbed during her and her family's reign. The monarchy on a whole is such an outdated system and needs to be abolished, but I don’t live there so it’s really none of my business

For me, the whole monarchy has had little to no effect on my daily life. I only knew of her passing by word of mouth from family and friends. The most I know about the Queen is that she was the longest serving British Monarch and some people even speculated that allegedly the monarchy had a hand in Princess Diana’s passing; all of that was learnt through random videos on YouTube. Though I care not for the monarchy, I send condolences to the royal family and their nation in their time of grief
Condolences to the Royal Family. I understand what the Queen represents to England and the British Colonies. There are some mixed feelings from many in former British Colonies due to the past history the ties between the territories and monarchy can’t be denied though. The Monarchy is largely symbolic, outside of England, but is a very real part of the lives of people in England

But the queen's death has revealed an interesting dichotomy in the Caribbean and other British Commonwealth nations Although the people of these countries adored the queen, there is indication they see the British monarch as archaic, and no longer relevant

Perhaps, looking back, the many former Caribbean colonies that gained political independence from 1962, missed the opportunity for an apology for slavery and reparation when they each negotiated the terms for independence The desire for independence was so strong it overlooked the need for an apology, and/or terms for reparations
