Bob Marley: One Love premieres in Jamaica with special guests Sections of Kingston, Jamaica, were closed off on Tuesday for the Jamaican premiere of Bob Marley: One Love, the first Marley familyapproved biopic of the reggae legend. Dozens of celebrities and dignitaries walked the red carpet at the Carib Theatre, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness and wife Juliet Holness, Jamaican Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, reggae singer, Chris Martin, Island Records Founder Chris Blackwell, and several members of the Marley family. But it was Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle who stole the show before it started. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a

surprise appearance, strolling hand-in-hand down the red carpet. The couple arrived alongside Brian Robbins, the president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, and his wife Tracy James. Meghan rocked a stylish black ensemble, while Harry went for a laid-back tieless suit at
the Carib Theatre in Kingston. “I had to be here,” Prince Harry said to the media as he walked the carpet. Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, previously visited Jamaica in 2017 when they attended a friend's wedding. Harry visited Jamaica solo in 2012 as part of a Caribbean tour to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Meghan also visited Jamaica in 2014. Set to hit screens globally on Feb. 14, the film marks the first time that Bob Marley's life and musical journey will be showcased on the big screen. The film was produced in partnership with the Marley family and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Green, Terence Winter, Frank E. Flowers, and Zach Baylin. continues on A6 – Marley Mania
The new school year will begin on August 12th, 2024, and end on June 3rd, 2025. Teachers would start on August 5th. It was Broward Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata who recommended that Broward begin the year on Monday, August 12. The other recommendation was for the school year to begin on August 19. August 12 is the earliest start date allowed by the state. It also falls in line with the start date of Palm Beach School District, Licata’s former School District. The vote during the meeting was 7-1. Much of the concern was voiced by Broward Teachers Union President Anna Fusco. She said the union is concerned about losing early release days, where students leave two hours early, in the fall semester. Teachers use those days to get grades done. The new start date means the district would have to convert four early release days into full school days in order to achieve the state-required instructional time. The board made a tentative agreement with BTU to trade the two early release days for full school days. Another item on the agenda was a countywide school uniforms policy. The board directed district administrators to survey parents to gather their thoughts on whether the district should adopt a mandatory dress code. The school board made the request instead of voting on a proposal that calls for a “unified dress code” for all students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Only a few schools in the county have such policy. The majority of schools in the district do not require uniforms. If the school board approves the proposal, it would still need to go through a rule development process, which would likely take 60 to 90 days, and come back to the board for a final vote.
