Is This The Killer Of XXXTentacion?
Alleged Killer Of Jamaican American Rapper Arrested By Daniel Strom
The Broward County Sheriff's Department has arrested and brought a first-degree murder charge against 22-year-old Dedrick Williams for the alleged killing of Jamaican American rapper XXXTentacion. XXXTenacion's mother received word of the arrest during a candlelight vigil for the rapper, whose real name was Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy. Onfroy, 20, was born in Plantation and raised in Lauderhill, Florida. He was shot and killed in his BMW while leaving RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach shortly before 4 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 after reportedly being approached by two armed suspects in an apparent robbery. At least one of the suspects fired a gun striking Onfroy. Both of the suspects fled in a dark-color SUV. The rapper was transported to Broward Health North where he was pronounced dead.
Williams' rap sheet, according to TMZ, shows he currently has 11 felonies and was previously arrested for probation violation, drug and weapons possession, domestic violence, aggravated assault Wiliams with a firearm and grand theft auto. Broward Sheriff's office said he also did not have a valid Florida driver's license. He was arrested during a traffic stop in Pompano. The arrest warrant accused Williams of killing the rapper "from a premeditated design." Williams appeared in court Thursday afternoon, where a judge ordered him held without bond. He is scheduled to be back in court Monday for the probation violation. Cops are now looking for more suspects in the killing. Onfroy, according to News Americas reports, was born to Jamaican parents Dwayne Ricardo
Onfroy and Cleopatra Bernard. He has three siblings with one being half shared paternally. Onfroy was mainly raised by his grandmother, Collette Jones in Pompano Beach, Florida and Lauderhill, Florida. The young rapper rose to fame while posting raps online from his bedroom on the audio distribution platform SoundCloud in June 2013. Onfroy released his debut album, 17, on August 25, 2017. This March, he released his second album. His singles “Sad!” and “Changes” recently peaked at 7 and 37, respectively the Billboard Hot 100. His interest in music initially started after his aunt persuaded him to begin attending school choir and later church choir. In 2013 he launched his musical career, continues on C3 XXXTentacion

Jamaican students who arrived in the U.S. on J-1 exchange visitor visas to work at a Holiday Inn Express and a Hampton Inn on Friday filed a law suit against their hosts in Oklahoma federal court. The suit, led by named plaintiffs Dorret Francis, Anthony Kennedy and Christine Pearce, claim they are essentially “survivors of human trafficking” because they had to shell out high recruitment fees but got paid less than promised and were threatened with physical harm if they tried to quit. The complaint said Walter Schumacher and
Carolyn Schumacher, owners of the hotel, used an overseas recruiting agent Apex, to defraud the plaintiffs and other individuals throughout the recruitment process, inducing them to pay substantial fees for recruitment, immigration processing and travel with promises of full-time,
good-paying jobs and suitable housing. But after they arrived in Oklahoma, they were allegedly told that if they did not work exclusively for them, they would suffer abuse of the legal process and serious financial and reputational harm. They allegedly worked as housekeepers at Holiday Inn Express or the Hampton Inn Clinton at a rate of pay between $4 and $4.25 for each room cleaned. According to the suit, the job was timeconsuming, so only a small number of rooms could be cleaned each day. It also said the piece rate did not satisfy the hotels' contractual promises or minimum wage requirements. The suit alleges violations of the Federal continues on A7 – Hotel lawsuit

Meet The New Chair Of The Broward Housing Council A Jamaican national and long-time Florida resident has been elected to the post of chair of the Broward Housing Council. Marcia BarrySmith, director of Community Outreach and Program Services for Habitat for Humanity of Broward, was recently elected to the post. “To be elected by the Council for this role is an honor,” she commented on the election recently. “There are complex issues that must be addressed, and my esteemed Council members and I will be looking closely at the many facets of the affordable housing crisis in Broward County.” Barry-Smith has worked in the area of affordable housing, in banking and on non-profit boards and management, since 1994. Highly regarded as an expert in community development around the nation, Barry-Smith's nationally acclaimed program, 'Homeless to Homeowner,' has placed hundreds of formerly homeless families into homeownership, empowering them to reach for independence and financial fitness. “The need for safe, sustainable housing in Broward County for those of limited means is at an all-time, dangerously critical high,” said Barry-Smith. “Safe, comfortable and affordable living conditions are essential for families and children to simply exist from day to day, much less thrive. The connection between living conditions and good health outcomes is indisputable. As an unequivocal advocate for the underserved, I consider it an honor to serve on this council.” She was born to Jamaican parents who worked in the corporate environment. In 1980, after attending St. Andrew High School in Jamaica and later Trinity College of the University of Toronto in Canada, she moved to the United States.

TT Religious Leaders Object To Same Sex Marriage the union of the male and female in a covenant called marriage for the unification of the spouses and the procreation of children,” Archbishop Gordon said recently. “And that's how we have understood marriage ever since and it is a foundation of our whole society. This is not something where the Muslims, the Hindus or the Christians have any difference of opinion.” The move by the religious leaders follow the ruling in April by the High Court that the buggery law is unconstitutional. The government has already indicated it will appeal the ruling of Justice Devindra Rampersad, saying the law goes against the basic rights of any citizen to enjoy the freedom
Religious leaders in Trinidad and Tobago are objecting to any notion of same sex marriages taking root in the twin-island Republic and are urging the government to maintain that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Roman Catholic Archbishop, Jason Gordon, told reporters recently that the Church is united in its views regarding marriages. “For us, male and female, we were created …to be complemental and they were created for

Guyana To Ask World Court For Ruling Government officials in the South American CARICOM nation of say they will ask the International Court of Justice, (ICJ), to make a ruling on its long-standing border controversy with Venezuela in its favor, after Caracas announced it would not participate in the case. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs even if Venezuela persists in its refusal to participate, the rules provide for the Court to proceed to a final judgment that is legally binding on both the participating and non-participating parties. Guyana, the government said, intends to proceed in accordance with the laws that specifically provides that the jurisdiction of the Court comprises all cases which the parties refer to it and all matters specially provided for in the Charter of the United Nations or in treaties and conventions in force. Venezuela contends that the Secretary-General overstepped his authority and has refused to participate in the case on the basis that it has been “unilaterally filed …without Venezuela's consent.” The country further argues that its decision is consistent with its historical position of not recognizing the jurisdiction of such an international body and particularly as it relates to the border controversy.
of privacy and family life. The High Court ruled it is unconstitutional to impede on the rights of homosexual men and anal sex, a challenge that was brought against the state in 2017 by gay rights activist Jason Jones. President of the Trinidad and Tobago Council of Evangelical Churches, Dr. Desmond Austin, told the news conference that the campaign would be to “encourage the parliamentary agenda for September 2018 to amend the Marriage Act to define marriage as between one biological man and one biological woman.”
Jamaica Pleased With Election To UN Economic and Social Council Jamaican officials say the government will use its election to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, (ECOSOC), to play a more active role in advancing and strengthening the work of the Council and will collaborate with other States to fulfill its mandate in areas such as sustainable social and economic development. “I am truly delighted by this new opportunity for Jamaica to contribute to the multilateral efforts to treat with important issues that impact not only the attainment of the National Development Plan 2030 Agenda but also the globally agreed Sustainable Development Goals,” Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Kamina Johnson Smith said. We just budget and go on about our days. Truth be told, we need gas to get around, so we will still all pay regardless the price. Gas prices will always fluctuate either low or high. Change That Family Separation Policy Now! T
he Holy Bible is at the core of the Christian religion. The book offers the general directions men and women should take to be committed Christians. However, the book is also subject to myriad interpretations. It's not unusual for these various interpretations to contradict each other. In truth, the words of the Bible can be used to justify almost every action taken by mankind. So it was that US Attorney General Jeff Sessions used an often quoted verse from the Bible to justify the Trump administration's increasingly tightened immigration policies including the new plan to separate children from their parents. In responding to the growing furor over the administration 'Zero Tolerance' immigration policy that arrests everyone crossing the US border illegally and separates children from their parents, Sessions said: “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained them for the purpose of order.” Coincidentally, this Biblical verse has been used in the past to justify slavery and the forced obedience from slaves to their masters. It was also used in South Africa to justify the ultraracist system of apartheid. But criticism against the US government wasn't against its laws to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country. The growing criticism is against the ratcheted-up policy of separating children from their parents, mostly from Central America, who are detained as they attempt to enter the US illegally. The new “zero tolerance” policy mandates every adult who crosses the border illegally be held for criminal prosecution. The administration argues that children cannot be detained in jails alongside their parents, so children are being taken from the parents and sent to other detention centers. The administration also claims, as criticism grows against this policy of separating children from families, that it's a policy included in immigration laws passed by the previous Democratic administration. This is a false claim. There isno evidence of a law passed by any previous administration, Republican or Democrat, and signed by any previous president, Republican or Democrat, that mandates separating children from their parents when they are detained. Prior to April of this year, although individuals were detained at the US border, attempts were made by border patrol agents to keep families together. Where there were incidences of children detained attempting to cross the border, reports indicate these were grown children who tried to cross the border unaccompanied. If and when the Obama and any other previous administration separated families who were detained, this too was wrong and cruel. Since April, obviously in an attempt to deter immigrants from crossing the border illegally,

Since April, obviously in an attempt to deter immigrants from crossing the border illegally, some 2,000 children have been separated from their parents and placed in detention centers. some 2,000 children have been separated from their parents and placed in detention centers. Images of these children in these detention centers is reminiscent of children being held in concentration camps by Nazi Germany during World War II. This policy is inhumane, cruel, evil and despicable. Moreover, nowhere in the Bible being used to so glibly justify adherence to civic laws, does it justify tormenting and disadvantaging children during the implementation of these laws. On the contrary, repeatedly in the Bible, Jesus Christ chastises whoever abuses children or attempts to treat them in any negative way. He boldly told his followers to: “Suffer little children and forbid them not to come not me.” Jesus also said: “And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.” To use the Bible to justify one act while implementing another cruel act that goes against the Bible's teachings is sheer, blatant hypocrisy. However, the policy of separating children from their families isn't about religion; it is about human decency and morality. But, based on counter arguments being made by the leadership of the incumbent administration, this cruel policy it seems is being used as an immigration quid pro quo. Several comments and tweets by members of the administration defends the policy. They show intent to continue the policy unless Democrats in Congress support passing legislation to fund building a wall along the Mexican/US border and other aspects of the

administration's immigration policy. To use the policy to separate children from their families as a political tool to meet the government's political agenda and coerce its political base is immoral. While America is a law-abiding nation and those breaking its laws must be penalized, discretion can be used in applying these penalties. If the Bible is being used to justify laws, those who apply laws, policies, and penalties are urged to apply the compassion often applied by Jesus Christ in the Bible. Specifically, they are urged to use discretion and compassion to amend this evil policy of separating children from parents who are detained under the 'zero tolerance' immigration policy.

Jaguars’ Marcell Dareus Visits Haiti Jaguars defensive tackle, Marcell Dareus, visited his father's homeland of Haiti this week. With five weeks off before training camp opens, Dareus arrived in Haiti Monday and was welcomed by Haiti's Prime Minister, Jack Guy Lafontant. On Wednesday, he helped at the groundbreaking and dedication of a three-classroom wing that will be named after him at the ChristRoi Primary School of Cammy. “It means the world to me to have an opportunity where I can help out, give a little back,” Dareus said prior to his visit. “I can't change the world, but I can change a life.” It is the second consecutive off-season that Dareus, 28, has traveled to Haiti. Last year, he met more than 800 children and was struck by the emotions he saw. Through the Dareus Foundation, he donated $25,000 to the U.S.-based charity, Hope for Haiti and he's expected to make another significant donation this week to the charity that serves as an implementing partner for school construction, teacher training, teacher salary subsidies, mobile clinics and back-to-school support

Dareus was 6 years old when his Haitian-born father, Jules Dareus, died from prostate cancer. His mother, Michelle Luckey, died in 2010 from heart failure shortly after Dareus won a national championship with the Alabama.

The US government accused the senator of making millions of dollars from postearthquake reconstruction projects that he never completed in Haiti, following the country's devastating 2010 earthquake.

Haiti Bans Oxfam GB Over Sexual Misconduct Scandal Haiti's government has officially banned Oxfam Great Britain from operating in its country. The move comes on the heels of the sex scandal that rocked the British charity earlier this year. Oxfam's right to operate in Haiti had already been revoked in February following allegations that staff members, including the country director, hired prostitutes at Oxfam properties while working in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake. Three Haiti government ministers said the charity was being shut down “for violation of Haitian law and serious violation of the principle of the dignity of the human beings.” Oxfam responded to the official decision in a statement apologizing again to the Haitian government and its people. "Oxfam is disappointed but understands the Haiti Government's decision to withdraw Oxfam Great Britain's permission to work in Haiti," the statement read. "The behavior of some former Oxfam staff working in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake was completely unacceptable." The statement also noted that since stronger measures have since been implemented to prevent abuse, including a hotline and safeguarding team.

First Rastafarian Church Opens In Miami Gardens By Paul Perry
Saturday June 16th saw the opening of The First Rastafarian Church and Cultural Center of Florida, (FRCC), in the City of Miami Gardens. Located at 16280 NW 27th Ave, the formal ribbon cutting was undertaken by Priest Douggie, Head of Cultural Activities for the church, and Mayor of Miami Gardens Oliver Gilbert. According to Priest Douggie, the church and community center adds “a new vibrant, creative cultural community narrative to the South Florida landscape.” “The essence of Community is common unity,” he added. “It takes a village to raise a child. With this in mind, the administration of the FRCCC has endeavored to recreate the village atmosphere in which unity of purpose empowers us to challenge the problems that hamper our community's positive growth.” At the opening, presentations were made by different representatives of the African and Rastafari Diaspora. The church and community center will be multifunctional, wherein the community can utilize it for religious and cultural purpose. However, its primary use will be to provide spiritual support for the Rastafari community in Florida and to connect to the wider Rastafari community. The FRCCC will showcase different aspects of the Rastafarian heritage and culture based on the wealthy and diverse Rastafarian lifestyle and history. Opening the FRCCC on June 16th was significant as the date represents the birthday of the founder of the Rastafarian movement, Jamaican Leonard P. Howell, who joined Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association, (UNIA), in New York, and first publicly articulated Rastafarianism in Kingston in 1933. Howell created the first Rastafarian village (Pinnacle) in 1940.
Children Separated From Parents Being Housed In South Florida Too? Florida lawmakers said Tuesday that they were prohibited from entering a Miamiarea facility they believe is being used to house immigrant children separated from their parents as well as unaccompanied minors. U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, both Democrats, made the claim outside the Homestead Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children. It is unclear how long the facility had been open. The 1,000-bed facility is overseen by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Department spokesman Kenneth Wolfe told local television news reporters that it had reopened as "a temporary unaccompanied alien children program facility." He did not provide additional details.

Getting Messy For Messi Things are really getting messy in Russia for Argentina's Lionel Messi, the man at the forefront of every debate as to who is the best footballer in the world today. With the weight of the entire Argentine population on his shoulders and millions of fans waiting for his magical moments, the diminutive midfielder is struggling to make his mark. This is supposed to be the year the 30-year old talisman finally deliver silverware in Argentine stripes, to cement his greatness. But now after his team’s three nil defeat at the hands of Croatia, things are getting sticky. So now the debate rages on about him being the best player in the world as the man who has won every silverware available at the club level, and has 64 goals in 126 appearances for Argentina, fate hangs in the balance. He lost the 2014 World Cup final against Germany, as well as two Copa America finals, along the way.
But although Messi is both the general and team captain, is it really his fault; or is it his team mates? He continues to shoulder the blame for the 2014 World Cup demise; but it was really teammates like Aguero and Higuain that failed to convert easy chances that could have won the game. Should Argentina go out in group stages this year, Messi will be long remembered for the penalty he missed against Iceland and rightfully so; such is life Lionel no margin for error. Messi's persona is not like that of Neymar or Ronaldo

to demand more from the players around him and that might very well be to the extent to which he shares the blame. But truth be told Argentina with a wealth of talent does not play as a unit and fail to utilize Messi's ability to the fullest. In the words of former
Barcelona team-mate Cesc Fabregas, providing analysis on BBC One, Argentina a "broken team" and he questioned their team spirit, saying they were "playing against each other, not for each other". He said: "It is difficult for Messi. He does not have the quality in behind him and is really missing Ever Banega or Giovani lo Celso. "He needs someone who can help him build up the play. You want your best player to be on the ball the most as
you can." I have to agree with Fabregas. Sometimes you get the feeling some of Messi's teammates competes against him rather than play off his abilities for the purpose of the team. It's almost as though they play with a free pass should things go bad. Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli was lost for explanation after the Croatia defeat. "I am just as dreamy-eyed as any fan and I am very hurt," said Sampaoli. "Messi is our captain, he leads the team and we quite simply couldn't pass to him to help him generate the situations he is used to. Some of the players didn't manage to play with my system; I probably didn't set up my team in the right way.” Anyway it's not over till it's over and Argentina is clinging for dear life like they did in the qualifiers before some Messi magic propelled them to Russia. For Messi to lift the cup this year it will take all that and more.

When FIFA President Gianni Infantino proposed a 48-team World Cup Finals for 2026 he was reduced to being fodder for many football enthusiasts who posited that the quality of the showpiece event would surely be diluted. But at the end of the first 24 of the 64 games to be played at this Russia 2018 edition, there is nothing to substantiate that that would be the case.

Brazil win dramatically over Costa Rica Philippe Coutinho saved Brazil in stoppage time after they struggled to break down Costa Rica, with Tite's side eventually winning 2-0.
France advance Kylian Mbappe made history as France booked their place in the World Cup's knockout rounds with an unconvincing 1-0 Group C defeat of Peru on Thursday. France were fortunate in their 2-1 opening win over Australia and they had slices of luck again at the Ekaterinburg Arena on Thursday. Mbappe's goal, which came from close-range after Olivier Giroud's shot took a wicked deflection to beat goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, saw the 19-year-old become the youngest player to score for France at a major international tournament. As they did in losing narrowly to Denmark, Peru had plenty of chances, returning captain Paolo Guerrero firing at Hugo Lloris and Pedro Aquino clipping the post with a super strike from range. However, Peru were unable to find a way through and Ricardo Gareca's side - who have yet to find the net in Russia - are certain to be knocked out. Denmark look set to join France in the last 16 after their 1-1 draw with Australia, but they need a point against Les Bleus in their final outing to be certain of progressing. Lloris was making his 100th France appearance and the goalkeeper was almost tested by an ambitious strike from Yoshimar Yotun, but the shot from the halfway line drifted wide. Antoine Griezmann - who signed a new Atletico Madrid contract on Monday - had France's first opportunity in the 11th minute but Euro 2016's top scorer fired wide, while Paul Pogba also failed to work Peru goalkeeper Gallese.
Chances were flowing for France, Raphael Varane missing with a header before Gallese saved with his legs to deny Griezmann after Giroud found his strike partner with a headed pass. But France's early intensity started to fade and Peru should have taken advantage, yet Guerrero shot straight at Lloris on the turn after Christian Cueva found him in the box. That miss proved key as Mbappe's historic World Cup moment gave France a 34th-minute lead. Pogba slid Giroud into the area and when the striker's shot looped over Gallese via a deflection off Christian Ramos, Mbappe could not miss from inside the six-yard box. Gallese prevented Lucas Hernandez from doubling the France lead as Peru ended the first half on the ropes. Peru coach Gareca sent on Anderson Santamaria and Jefferson Farfan at the break, while Samuel Umtiti shook off a dead leg, before Aquino clipped the outside of the post with a swerving drive from 25 yards. Andre Carrillo fired over the crossbar and Farfan finding the side-netting as Peru grew increasingly desperate to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Substitute Ousmane Dembele - dropped for Giroud - could have wrapped up the points in the 82nd minute but fired wide, as France appeared to have settled for a one-goal victory. With Peru's record scorer Guerrero wasting a late free-kick, Didier Deschamps' squad safely held on to secure their place in the knockout stages.
After a stodgy first-half showing, Brazil, who drew their opening match with Switzerland, wasted numerous chances before Coutinho (90+1) netted his second goal of the tournament to rescue his side. Neymar (90+6) added gloss with a further goal in added time. The PSG man was at the heart of the game throughout, including winning a penalty which was sensationally overturned by VAR and at full time he was in tears, presumably with relief that Brazil had avoided a damaging result. Cristian Gamboa gave Brazil an early fright with a scorching run down the left. His cross found Celso Borges but his effort from 12 yards out scuffed wide of the far post. Gabriel Jesus had the ball in the net on 26 minutes, however, the linesman's flag correctly cut short the celebrations and Neymar cut a frustrated figure off the left flank as Brazil failed to find any rhythm to their play down his side. But the substitution of Douglas Costa, who replaced Willian at the break, sparked life into Brazil's attacks. First, Jesus rose highest from a right-wing cross only for his his effort on 50 minutes to come crashing back off the crossbar. Neymar then swept an effort from 12 yards at goal which was flicked over the crossbar from Keylor Navas who could only stand and watch minutes later when the same player curled an effort inches wide. The Brazilian skipper was seen badgering the referee in the tunnel over an alleged lack of decisions go his way in the first-half but he thought he'd won a penalty with 12 minutes left. He cut inside Oscar Duarte, who left an arm on his chest. Neymar deemed this contact strong enough to send him theatrically to the ground but the VAR overturned the call to the frustration of the Brazilian, who was booked moments later for dissent. Brazil were running out of ideas and time - but when Roberto Firmino bravely headed a cross back across goal, Jesus flicked the ball into Coutinho's path and the Barcelona man toe-poked the ball through the legs of Navas, sparking jubilant scenes. Neymar then wrapped up the points late on with a simple finish after a clever break by Costa.

There's No US Law For Separating Children From Their Parents At The US Border By Caroly Pedersen Immigration Attorney In recent days, sad images of people seeking refuge in the US, including of children of varying ages detained in wire cages like animals, have filled our TV screens. And then there are children, including crying infants, who have been ripped from their parents' arms and taken away without explanation. The parents of these children have been detained elsewhere because they were attempting to cross the border into the US from countries in Central America and have been arrested under what the Trump administration's s-called 'Zero Tolerance' immigration policy. The Trump administration claims this deplorable act of separating children from their parents is based on laws, enacted by earlier administrations. Many people are now asking if there is really a law that requires the government to take children away from their parents? The answer is simple, and emphatically NO! There is no law which requires the government to separate families at the border that is a false claim, no matter how many times the current administration in Washington, DC., repeats it. The current practice of separating children from their parents is a crisis created entirely by Donald Trump's “Zero Tolerance” policy in taking a law and perverting it to fit his antiimmigrant agenda. U.S. law does make entering the U.S. illegally a crime; but prior administrations have largely avoided prosecuting illegal entrants, particularly mothers who cross the border with their children. Instead, they allowed those seeking entry into the US to post “bond” and be given a court date to appear in the future. This is commonly called the “Catch and Release” program. Family separations under the previous Bush and
From April to May 31, DHS ofcials reported that some 1,995 children had been taken from their parents and thousands more children will continue to be separated from their parents in the coming months, unless the ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy is ended! Obama administrations were unheard of and viewed as cruel and inhumane. To deflect criticism from its new draconian policy, Trump officials often point to the “Flores settlement” as justification for their immoral actions. This is only meant to confuse the issue, since “Flores” is largely only applied in the case of “unaccompanied children” who are apprehended at the border alone, without a parent. In such cases, the existing law requires the
government to release children into the care of a relative, guardian, or the “least restrictive” setting, rather than holding a child in detention. However, under no circumstances does the law require the government to separate families who arrive together. This is instead a barbaric policy decision, made and carried out entirely by the Trump administration. In April 2018, the US Department of Justice, (DOJ), announced that it would criminally prosecute any migrant who entered
the U.S. illegally, including migrants with children. As a result, parents apprehended by border patrol are detained for criminal prosecution and sent to jail, while their children are sent to separate facilities, with their whereabouts not disclosed even to their own parents. This policy is said to be used to “deter” migrants in general from illegally entering the U.S. From April to May 31, DHS officials reported that some 1,995 children had been taken from their parents and thousands more children will continue to be separated from their parents in the coming months, unless the policy is ended! What is the solution to this human tragedy? What is the legal solution to stop this despicable practice of separating families who attempt to enter the US illegally? The only solution to this artificially created crisis against children is for the President to pick up the phone and just say “stop” this cruel policy. Within moments, the nightmare would end, detained parents could be reunited with children and great lessons would have been learned from imprudent decisions based upon retribution rather than righteousness. What's to be done next, legally, to stem the tide of illegal migrants? That is a tough question and one that needs to be studied in depth with the diligence and courage befitting a great nation like America; one with the moral leadership and dignity to set an example for the rest of the world. We are only as good as our worst acts and as the saying goes, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. In the meantime, there is absolutely no existing law for the government to be separating children from their parents at the US border and there is no existing law to keep these children detained in detention centers if they tried to cross the border with their parents. The views expressed are solely the views of the writer, and does not necessarily reflect the views of CNW Network.

Changes In US Immigration Policies
US Seeks Pact With Mexico
New Policy Extends Status Of Conditional Residents From 12 To 18 Months The USCIS recently announced its new policy to extend the Residency status of immigrants with pending I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status cases, from 12 to 18 months. The change is due to increased processing times over the past year, which has resulted in some such cases taking up to 2 years or more. The USCIS receipt received once the I-751 or I-829 case is accepted will reflect the new 18-months extension.
In its continuing efforts to reduce lawful immigration, the Trump administration has begun negotiations with Mexico to enter into a pact which would essentially eliminate the ability of immigrants to apply for asylum at the southern U.S. border.
USCIS Announces Delays In Receipt Issuance For Removal Of Conditions
Currently, any immigrant who presents themselves at the border, has the right to apply for asylum in the U.S. and seek protection under U.S. laws while waiting for the application to be processed, which can take many years. In the meantime, applicants generally receive employment authorization and the right to stay in the U.S. during the process. International asylum treaties provide that an individual fleeing from persecution in their home country must generally make their claim for asylum in the first country they enter, if that country is considered a “safe third country.” If not, the asylum seeker can pass through the non-designated country to apply for asylum in the next safe country. The purpose for the rule is to encourage countries to live up to their responsibilities to provide safety to refugees. To discourage “asylum shopping,” some countries like the U.S. and Canada have entered into a safe third country agreement, which requires asylum seekers to
Generally, once an application is filed with the USCIS, a receipt notice, called an I-797 Notice of Action, is issued to the applicant within about 710 days. In the case of Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, the receipt not only notifies the applicant that the case has been received, but further extends the immigrant's residency status. Last week, the USCIS announced that the service center, which handles receipting of these cases, was experiencing delays in data entry of cases received. As a result, the center has a back-log of cases waiting for receipts to be issued. According to the notice, Form I-751 petitions filed by applicants in May 2018 may not have received receipts. The service center advises applicants not to file a duplicate case and hopes to complete entry of those cases by the end of June. Residents with expired Green Cards can call the USCIS 800# and receive an appointment at the local USCIS field office to obtain temporary residency until the receipt is issued. Be prepared to show proof that the I751 application was sent to the USCIS by bringing a copy of the USPS, FedEx or other delivery receipt.

make their application for asylum in the first country they enter, either the U.S. or Canada. If the Trump administration has its way and enters into such an agreement with Mexico, nationals fleeing persecution in their countries would no longer be able to pass through Mexico to apply for asylum at the U.S. border. They would instead only be allowed to apply for asylum in Mexico. Critics say this move would be a human rights disaster for many fleeing persecution in Central and South America, including thousands of Venezuelans who make their way through Central America to Mexico and up to the U.S. border each month. Stay tuned.

Jamaican Film Exec Wins At ABFF A Jamaican film, which tells the story of a teenaged Jamaican track-and-field athlete growing up in a challenging family situation and which was executive produced by Will and Jada Smith, has won three awards at the American Black Film Festival. The festival, held in Miami, Florida recently, honored 'Sprinter' with the Audience Award, the Award for Best Narrative, and a Best Director Award for Storm Saulter, who also wrote the story. The 112-minute film stars Kadeem Wilson (Ghett' A Life), Dennis Titus (The Mighty Quinn), Shantol Jackson (Yardie), Bryshere Y. Gray (Empire, The New Edition Story), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is The New Black), David Alan Grier (The Carmichael Show, In Living Color), and newcomer Dale Elliott. It was produced by Robert Maylor, Clarence Hammond, and Jamal Watson, with executive producers Richard Jefferson, Josef Bogdanovich, and Zachary Harding, in addition to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. The story is about a teen named Akeem Sharp, who hopes that his success as a track-and-field athlete will reunite him with his mother, who has been illegally living in the United States for over ten years. Saulter, who grew up in Jamaica, had one or both of their

parents working overseas, sending back money and barrels of goods to help support their families. He said that exploring matters like the “Barrel Pickney” phenomenon, immigration issues, and the impact of globalization on families through film, has long been a goal. According to producer Maylor, his experience growing up with “feet firmly planted in both Jamaica and the US, has left him feeling extremely gratified to come “full circle” with the film, which he calls an authentic and uniquely Jamaican story. Also getting executive director credits are: NBA veteran and media personality Richard Jefferson, Josef Bogdanovich, Harding, Aaron Carr, Vinoda Basnayake, Donald Ranvaud, Kevin “Flipp” Montgomery, Dr. Lim, Shaffer “Ne-Yo” Smith, and Reynell “Tango” Hay.

Prosecutors reportedly believe the rapper - by way of recorded calls he made in jail - attempted to coerce his girlfriend into dropping her case against him. He served a brief stint in jail in December before he was released on house arrest. A judge in March granted his request to be freed from house arrest in order to take his music on tour. The rapper's music also made waves last month after Spotify announced it would
scrub his tracks from its platform, as his alleged behavior had violated codes of conduct. The move drew backlash, and Spotify later reversed its decision. On Monday, fellow rappers and musical artists took to Twitter to express their shock and sorrow. “Rest in Peace,” Kanye West tweeted. “I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing.”

Damian Marley Calls Trump Presidency “Entertainment” Jamaican-born, Grammy-winning, reggae singer Damian Marley, has dubbed the US Presidency of Donald Trump “entertainment.” Marley, the youngest son of legendary Jamaicanborn reggae legend, Robert Nesta Marley, said while he has paid more attention to politics in Jamaica than in the US, he feels it's very new to everyone to see the US presidency as an entertainment rather than something to be taken seriously. He told the Press Association that “very, very serious topics almost seem childish” on Trump's watch. Marley, 39, has won four Grammys. He is about to embark on a UK tour which will see him perform in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Brixton in south London. His latest album, 'Stony Hill,' recently won the Grammy for best reggae album.

Protoje to release “A Matter of Time” June 29, 2018 Jamaican reggae artiste Protoje, will release his latest album “A Matter of Time” on June 29. In this highly anticipated release, the 10 track compilation features collaborations with other artistes - Chronixx and Mortimer. To accommodate the artiste's touring schedule, instead of an album launch, his band - the Indiggnation camp - will orchestrate an 'album-party-vibes' to be held in Kingston on July 7. Protoje released his first album in January 2011 titled The Seven Year Itch. In February 2013, he continued with The 8 Year Affair, and again in March 2015 with Ancient Future.
Not upset The voice of Jamaican dancer, choreographer and lecturer L'Antoinette Stines, was featured on the album “Everything is Love” by power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce. Stine's involvement stems from a visit to Jamaica by the couple earlier this year when they visited the community of Trench Town. Following the surprise release of the album, Stine's, who was not credited, told Jamaican media that she was interviewed by the couple but didn't know that her voice would have been used on the single 'Black Effect”. “They interviewed me when they came here earlier this year and I didn't know that it would've ended up on an album.” She however dismissed the lack of recognition as an oversight. Stines, the founder of the dance group L'Acadco said she just wants to know why she wasn't credited. Last Saturday, The Carters dropped their new joint album, “Everything Is Love” on the streaming site Tidal.

Second West Indies Test Ends In A Draw In the end, the final day at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, which started with so much promise, ended with the West Indies battling to save the contest and preserve their 1-0 lead in the three-Test series. Set 296 for victory, with nearly three full sessions available, West Indies slumped to 8 for two wickets early on and were clinging on at 147 for five, when bad light drove players from the field at 5:05 p.m., never to return. To Sri Lanka's dismay, rain had earlier arrived half-hour after the tea break with West Indies on 137 for five, causing a delay of just over an hour. When play finally resumed, only 15 balls were possible before the quickly diminishing light ended play again. Throughout the turmoil of the day, opener Kraigg Brathwaite remained resolute with an unbeaten 59 and was accompanied by captain Jason Holder at the end on 15. Shai Hope made 39 but no other batsman passed 15 as Sri Lanka's seam attack made repeated inroads. Speedster Gabriel had earlier produced a career-best match haul of 13 for 121 – the third best overall figures by a West Indies bowler in Tests – when he quickly wrapped up the Sri Lanka second innings inside the first 20 minutes of the day by taking the last two wickets.

By David Maitland Port St. Lucie held off an Ambassadors challenge to win by 35 runs, while Palm Beach Titans was no match for St. Bess in Sunday's South Florida Cricket Alliance 40Over tournament. At Girl Scout Friendship Park, Port St. Lucie won the toss and decided to take first strike. They put up a challenging total of 175 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs with Roger Joshua top scoring with 48, which included four massive sixes and one four. He was supported by Ricardo Mills, 28; Richard Louis, 24; and Charles Reid, 23. Bowling for Ambassadors, Errol Stewart took 4 for 53 from his eight overs while Frederick Redwood bagged 1 for 16 and Antoine Charlery 1 for 21. In reply, Ambassadors was bowled out for 140 runs. Cornel White put up a gallant fight by scoring a swashbuckling 62, with four sixes and one four, but did not have the support of his teammates to successfully chase down the target. Frederick Redwood and Cornel Peart each added 17 runs to hand Port St. Lucie the win by 35 runs.
Shannon Gabriel's record eight-wicket haul set the stage for a sensational West Indies run chase, but sloppy batting, coupled with inclement weather, ensured an anti-climatic end as the second Test against Sri Lanka finished in a draw on Monday in St. Lucia.
