Should the Austin bombings suspect be labeled as a terrorist despite authorities saying otherwise?' Riccardo, North Miami, FL “It is a bit confusing as to why officials haven't labeled this Austin serial bomber a domestic terrorist. I feel like they will say he was mentally-ill, depressed or had a rough childhood, now that authorities are interviewing the roommates as well as getting into the house and social media accounts in attempt to gather more information. Once officials know and confirm whether or not there were political motives behind the bombings, is when I feel they will label him as a terrorist.” Terry, Kendall, FL “It seems the bomber didn't specifically pick black families to attack. I don't think people should solely wrap their heads around the racial thoughts only. The fact of the matter is, people of all races are capable of all the same wrong doings; it is a mater of how they are viewed once the crime is committed. Terrorism is not just about a political motive but also the use of intentionally indiscriminate violence as a means to create terror among masses of people, which the Austin bomber has done. Yes, he is dead now, but he is still a terrorist, leaving the entire city shook and probably afraid to receive their packages now.”

Walma, Fort Lauderdale FL “The definition of terrorism also involves political motivation. People ignore that part of it and think anyone who kills multiple people is a terrorist. I understand the frustration with the media being quick to call a Muslim a terrorist and never calling a white guy a terrorist, but some of these people are absolutely white domestic terrorist. Others are just white mass murderers. Was he politically motivated? No one knows. I believe that is the confirmation officials are waiting to confirm or find out before labeling it an act of terrorism.” John, Coral Springs FL “I think if he was black or Muslim or any other race other than white, our entire country would be under warning for at least a possible terror attacks across the world. The city of Austin, Texas is now a little more at ease since the bomber is dead, but many people still have questions and concerns about how to keep themselves safe and if there are more boxed bombs to be delivered. Authorities need to declare the serial bomber a terrorist.”

Kayla, Platation FL “First, I'd like to say that I read about a 17-year-old African-American boy who lost his life due to a bomb package he received at home but I haven't seen any coverage for it, until now that a Hispanic lady and, I believe, 2 white men were injured the same way. Is there a chance that there was no coverage because it was a race issue or authorities trying to keep news of a "terrorist" quiet until they confirmed it? I do believe that telling the media is fair because people deserve to know what's going on, but at the same time can cause more of a frenzy or panic because terrorists are normally unpredictable.” Sharone, Kendall, FL “Yes, I think the suspect should absolutely be labeled as a terrorist, because he did just that: terrorize the community of Austin. It's really frustrating how hypocritical this country is. I bet if the suspect was Muslim or African-American, his face would be on headlines everywhere with the word terrorist next to it. But because he is a white man they will try to find every excuse to try and justify his actions.”

| THURSDAY, MAR 22 – MAR 28, 2018 | VOL. 15 NO. 12

Why We March? Come Saturday, March 24th, millions of Americans are expected to march to demand action from state and federal legislators in implementing more effective gun control laws. The march called, “March For Your Lives,” was initiated from the tragic mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14, 2018. However, the anticipated high turn-out to the primary march in Washington DC, and in cities across the country next Saturday, has been motivated by reasons other than the need for more effective gun control laws.

It's imperative that the pending march send a profound message and be a key factor that generate effective legislative changes in gun control, and although while not the purpose of the march, in other areas in which Americans are also frustrated.

Millions of Americans will be marching because they are frustrated. Frustrated, because time and time again, they have been suckered into electing politicians who steal their votes with empty promises. Politicians, who on taking office, seem to disappear into an environment oblivious to the demands of voters. People voted in politicians in recent elections to provide them with affordable healthcare. While the Obama administration implemented what turned out to be a contentious healthcare plan, the current set of politicians in the US Congress have neither been able to improve on this plan nor replace it with one that's more effective. So, millions of Americans remain without affordable healthcare; and they too will march. People also voted in recent elections for politicians who promised to, and whom they believed would, finally address the long, outstanding problem of immigration reform. Today, millions of immigrants from the Caribbean and other countries are living in America in fear of being deported in the absence of clear, definitive immigration laws permitting them to be in the US legally, on or without condition, or force them to leave. It does seem implausible that series of elected politicians in successive administrations over several decades haven't found consensus on a fair, comprehensive immigration policy, so millions of Americans remain frustrated without clear immigration directions; and they too will march. For decades, millions of Americans have been forced to earn paltry incomes tagged to a federal approved minimum wage that's far distanced from the reality of the average cost of living. It's pathetic that America, a nation that boasts of being the richest on Earth, has the lowest hourly federal minimum wage, ($7.25) of all western developed countries. Certainly, lower than neighboring Canada where the minimum wage is C$14 or US$10.69. So, millions of Americans who are frustrated at living below a minimum living wage will also march Millions of American women continue to live in a nation where they are treated to extensive inequalities in pay, benefits, and general working conditions. Millions of women, are also consistently

blatantly abused, sexually and domestically, despite their collective appeal for more stringent laws and punishment to protect them from male perpetuators. Still, millions more single mothers and heads of household struggle to raise families with scant public assistance that could be taken away any day. These women are dreadfully frustrated; and they too will march. Yes, millions of Americans will join the march for more effective gun court laws, while really marching for a myriad of underscored reasons on March 24th because of growing, pent up frustrations. But, after they march, then what? Will they be less frustrated? In former years, millions also marched, most notably for civil rights. Some of these marches were considered successful as they did motivate the passage of laws that met the demands of the marchers. Within the last 14-months, Americans have marched for a variety of reasons, including women rights and immigration reform, to little or no avail. So far, elected officials in the US Congress and several state capitols, remain oblivious to the demands of the people. Legislators meet, they debate, even draft bills, but repeatedly failed to pass legislation that is sought by many voters Some people, cannot help but wonder if the anticipated magnitude of the March 24th march will make any difference. It's imperative that the pending march send a profound message and be a key factor that generate effective legislative changes in gun control, and although while not the purpose of the march, in other areas in which Americans are also frustrated. That's why it's important that, people, young and old, seeking positive changes through their elected officials in various aspects of American life, should march on March 24th. And, God forbid, if there is no change after this march, then come November 6th, people must march to the voting booth and remove every nonperforming elected politician. In the meantime, try to march come Saturday!

LA SECTION HAITIENNE

Haiti Welcomes Pop Star Jason Derulo Haitian-American pop star, Jason Derulo, touched down in his parents' homeland of Haiti on Saturday, March 17th, for an official video shoot.

The Miami singer and songwriter, born Jason Joel Desrouleaux, was accompanied by his parents and welcomed to Cap Haitian by Jessy Meno, the country's minister of tourism. He is shooting the official music video for his new song “Colors,” which he'll be performing in Russia during the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on June 14th. “Through my years of travel, I've been able to see the beauty in our cultural differences and I wrote 'Colors' to celebrate that diversity and be a part of the amazing energy that sports fans around the world give to their teams,” Derulo said of the song in a statement. “It's a tournament that celebrates athletic excellence and I'm honored to provide the soundtrack.”

South Florida Haitians Also Suing DHS Three South Florida Haitians have joined seven New Yorkbased Haitian immigrants as well as a Haitian newspaper and a local advocacy group in suing the Donald Trump administration. In a federal lawsuit filed last Thursday in the Eastern District of New York, the plaintiffs argue that Trump and the Department of Homeland Security “employed an invalid and unauthorized process to terminate Haiti's TPS (Temporary Protected Status) designation irrespective of the statutory criteria for review enacted by

Congress.” The plaintiffs include the weekly Brooklynbased Haitian newspaper, Haïti Liberté and Miami-based Haitian rights advocacy group, Family Action Network Movement, or FANM, an organization previously known as the Haitian

Women of Miami. The federal complaint is the fourth TPSrelated suit filed against Trump and Homeland Security, which last year rescinded the Temporary Protected Status for citizens of Sudan, Nicaragua, Haiti and El Salvador after granting them a final 18-month extension. A similar suit was also filed in San Francisco by the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Southern California, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and the law firm of Sidley Austin last week. Other suits have been filed in federal court in Boston on behalf of Salvadorans and Haitians with TPS, and in Maryland by the NAACP Legal Defense.

The minister also noted that investigations continue regarding the cause of the accident. “The Ministry will continue to monitor and update the public if new information becomes available,” she said. The news comes as federal officials began investigating the catastrophic collapse of 174 feet of the FIU pedestrian bridge and Structural Technologies offered their condolences to Brown's family. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Brown's family and with the other affected employees,” Biesiada said. “We really appreciate the work of the first responders who immediately offered their help.” FIU had touted the bridge to be one of the first of its kind, tweeting that it was swung into place on Saturday, March 10th. It was built by MCM Construction and by the FIGG Engineering-Bridge Group. Barnhart Crane & Rigging moved the bridge into place on Saturday. It was funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation TIGER Grant, Florida Dept. of Transportation, FIU and the City of Sweetwater to the tune of $14.2 million. (NewsAmericasNow.com)

beats a try. There has been too much fakeness all these years. I'm the real deal right now for my people. No more lies,” said the now former sex-worker. “I am not a politician; I don't know the first thing about politics, but I know Barbados is hard and poor people want help; we want jobs. Too much crime in Barbados. Too much young people coming out on the streets to prostitute for money. We need help. That's all I know,' said the sex-worker. President of the AIA, Charles Lewis, said the organization would be providing both moral and financial support to Harewood as he will be running her campaign. The DLP is expected to face a strong challenge from the main opposition Barbados Labor Party (BLP) for control of the 30-seat parliament. The DLP won the last general election in 2013 by a two-seat margin. Harewood, whose February 2017 single, 'Dirty Harry,' a song about a client whom she said had wanted a relationship when she was only interested in conducting a business transaction with him, prompted much criticism, officially announced the planned career shift on social media. “Hi my Instagram and Facebook friends, I am here to announce that I will be quitting my profession as a prostitute to pursue my political ambition in becoming the next parliamentary representative for the City of Bridgetown,” she posted. Some residents of The City are welcoming Harewood with open arms, particularly those in Nelson Street where she grew up. Among them is 60-year-old Kenny Browne, who told Barbados TODAY that as a home girl Harewood understood the culture of the constituency better than the other candidate. “I feel personally that Natalie is coming from a point of view that she knows exactly how poor people feel, so she is just the voice of poor people. Her intentions are great, although persons may look at her in a funny way,” Browne was quoted as saying.

Over A Million Views For Shaggy’s Trump Parody

Snapchat Stocks Plunge After Rihanna's Condemnation Rihanna's power in undeniable. Just ask Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel, whose personal net worth dropped $150 million, after the Barbados-born singer condemned the company's recent promo. The stock prices of Snap Inc. fell around 4 percent after Rihanna responded to the app's apology for running an ad for a game called “Would You Rather” asking users if they would rather slap Rihanna or punch her ex Chris Brown. The ad was in reference to the 2009 domestic violence incident involving the then couple. The market value of the app's parent company dropped almost $800 million, according to CNN. "I'd love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain't that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!!," Rihanna slammed. "This isn't about my personal feelings, cause I don't have much of them … but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven't made it out yet … you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away."

It's not only actor Alec Balwin who can play Donald Trump. A video showing Jamaican-born, Grammy-winning singer, Shaggy, transformed into the role of Trump for a spoof on the Robert Muller investigation for the 'Late Late Show' last week, has garnered over a million views already. The 'It Wasn't Me' singer, was recruited by the show's host James Corden to sing his charttopping 2000 hit for the parody. Corden played a determined Mueller as he sang: “Special counsel got you sweating like crazy, tweeting that it's a 'witch hunt,'” while knocking on the Oval Office door with a number of FBI agents as a jumpy Shaggy, playing Trump, tried to shred confidential documents and hide. To which Shaggy responds in song: “This damn Russian probe's gonna bite me in the bummer. I never should have fired James Comey last summer. Pundits called me dumb, Bannon made me look dumber. I'll blame Hillary, boy I've really outdone her. To be a true

dealer, know the art of the deal. If Mueller's pressin' charges, then I'm going to appeal. Delete my work emails before they reveal. I paid off Stormy Daniels so she'd spank me till I squealed.” The two also poked fun at the Stormy Daniels situation, Trump's firing of FBI director

Miley Cyrus Sued By Jamaican Entertainer for $300M Entertainer Miley Cyrus has been sued for US$ 300 million by a Jamaican songwriter who said the pop singer’s 2013 smash “We Can’t Stop” closely resembles a song he recorded 25 years earlier, and that she is infringing his copyright.

Michael May, who performs as Flourgon, said his 1988 song “We Run Things” has been a favorite for lovers of reggae music worldwide since reaching number one in his home country, and that about 50 percent of We Can’t Stop comes from him. He accused Cyrus and her label RCA Records, owned by Sony Corporation, of misappropriating his material, including the

Haitian Roots Tennis Player Wins Major Title

Reggae Boyz Move Up The FIFA Ranks Again

A 20-year-old Haitian-Japanese tennis player on Sunday won the first major title of her career.

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz have completed another upward move on the FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings, consolidating their position in the top 50.

Naomi Osaka scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Daria Kasatkina of Russia in the BNP Paribas Open final at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on March 18th. “I freaked out,” she told the Associated Press after the win. “I just started saying whatever came into my mind first, which is why I think I kept stopping halfway through my sentences, because I just remembered something else I had to say. That was pretty embarrassing.” Osaka dropped just one set in seven matches, knocking off two-time winner Maria Sharapova, No. 5 Karolina Pliskova and top-ranked Simona Halep against whom she won the last nine games of the match. She arrived at Indian Wells unseeded because of her No. 44 ranking. She left ranked No. 22 and with a $1.3 million check, nearly double her career earnings. Osaka was named after the city of Osaka, Japan, where she was born to a Haitian father and Japanese mother. She moved to the U.S. as a 3-year-old and holds dual citizenship, living in Florida, while representing Japan in the Fed Cup.

The main contributors to that massive total were Dean Morgan, who top scored with 108 from sixty-four balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes and Shawn Finley, who added 64, including 6 fours and 5 sixes. Keniel Irvin contributed 54, which included 2 sixes and 2 fours while Mark Johnson added 45 (1 four, 4 sixes) and Gavin Wallace, 28. There were six bowlers for Ambassadors who each took a wicket a piece. In reply, Ambassadors could only muster 94 all-out, to concede victory by a whopping 240 runs. Fredrick Redwood top scored with 42. Bowling honors went to Elvis Watson of Jammers, who bagged 3 for 11 from 6 overs while David Brathwaite picked up 3 for 29 from 5 overs and Gavin Wallace, 2 for 15 from 5.3 overs.

Palm Beach Titans Vs. West Indies Reach 2019 World Cup To Give Fans Hope The West Indies men's cricket team gave fans hope Wednesday, reaching the 2019 World Cup over Scotland in a rain-affected game in Harare. Batting first, the Windies reached 198 all out. Scotland's chances were ended by the weather, allowing the West Indies to sneak through and play in the 2019 tournament in England and Wales. Chasing 199 to win, and take the World Cup place, Scotland was 5-125 in the 36th over when the rain came. Scotland needed to be 5-131 or better to win. This gave the West Indies a fiverun victory on the Duckworth-Lewis method. “I'm extremely pleased to get through to the World Cup. We've been through a lot in the last two years,” said Skipper Jason Holder. "We had to play to expectation - there was pressure in every game and the guys really put their hands up. I'm really pleased to get over the line but my thoughts go out to Scotland for how they've played in this tournament."

The latest release of the monthly rankings shows Jamaica moving up one place to number 49. This makes Jamaica the 4th highest placed team in CONCACAF, behind Mexico, (17), the United States, (25th, down one) and Costa Rica, (26th, down one). The Reggae Boyz are also the highest ranked Caribbean team ahead of Trinidad & Tobago, (79th, up 1), and Curacao and Haiti, who both moved up a spot to 82 and 85, respectively. The top five is unaltered, with World Cup and Confederations Cup champions Germany still on top, while Poland, (6th, up one), are the only movers in the top 20, having climbed into joint-sixth position alongside Spain. That rise leaves the World Cup-bound Poles just one place short of their best-ever Ranking position. Brazil remains at no.2 followed by Portugal, Argentina and Belgium. The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on April 12, 2018.

Bolt Ranked 10th On ESPN’s Top 20 List Of Dominant Athletes Legendary Jamaican and international sprinter Usain Bolt has been ranked 10th on ESPN magazine’s list of the top 20 most dominant athlete of the past 20 years. The eight-time Olympic champion who retired from track and field at the IAAF World Championship last year, is ranked behind golfer Tiger Woods who tops the list, legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning in second place, NBA basketball star LeBron James in third place and boxer Floyd Mayweather in eighth place. Tennis legend Roger Federer sits in fifth position and retired formula driver Michael Shumacher is in seventh place. However, Bolt is ranked above football great Lionell Messi, tennis sensation Serena Williams, Portuguese football star Christiano Ronaldo, and US sprinter Alyson Felix.
