Jamaica to grant Cannabis licenses by year-end The Government of Jamaica is making every effort to fulfill requests from individuals and companies for the growing and processing of marijuana for medicinal purposes and for research and development.
This was confirmed by Hyacinth Lightbourne, Chairman of the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA), who says to date, the entity has received 89 applications. She says the applications are now being processed. “After all the paperwork has been submitted, we have to evaluate the information given as well as conduct a thorough background check on the applicants.” The CLA consults with key partners and agencies such as the Financial Investigation Division, Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), Ministry of National Security,

David Chiverton, former city manager of Opa-Locka was on Monday sentenced to 38 months in federal prison after being convicted earlier this year on a charge of conspiracy to accept improper gifts or payments. When he appeared in court on Monday, he was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and eight months of house arrest once
released from jail. However, Chiverton's sentence does not start until February 2017. It's reported that Chiverton and Opa-Locak's former Assistant Public Works Director Gregory Harris were charged in July 2016, for accepting bribes and extorting funds from residents doing business with the city over a two-year period. The charges stated the two men took advantage of their positions to obtain funds in bribes from businesses and residents in exchange for city authorizations of special services. These included providing business and zoning permits, occupational licenses, water supply, and restoring certain city services.
Chiverton resigned from his position in July and pled guilty to charges in September. The case unfolded when the FBI was alerted continues on B4 – Chiverton

Improved US/Cuba relationship threatened by Garth A.Rose There are indications the incoming Donald Trump administration could be planning to reverse the attempts of rapprochement between the United States and Cuba. This is based on the fact that on Monday Trump named Mauricio Claver-Carone a leader of a pro-Cuba embargo organization in Washington, to his transition team. Almost two years ago President Barack Obama announced plans to improve the almost

Diaspora help sought to alleviate preemie-baby crisis in Jamaica by Garth A. Rose
The Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) in Jamaica's second city of Montego Bay, received a much need boost in its ability to care for newborns, when a South Florida based charity donated neo-natal incubators to the institution. The Jamaica United Relief Association (JURA), led by president Oliver Falloon-Reid, made the presentation at the organisations annual mission to the island this year. “The need for incubators is even more dire at this hospital. An average of 800 premature babies are born there monthly and the hospital only has two working incubators. We also plan to provide incubators to (the) Jubilee, (the Victoria Jubilee Hospital) cost permitting.” Concerning Jamaica's health care, Fallon-Reid said it is in dire need of attention. “There's a real serious healthcare crisis in Jamaica, and the situation with healthcare for premature babies in the nation's public hospitals is particularly grave,” said Falloon-Reid. Under the agreement, the JURA is committed to providing several incubators to the hospital. According to Falloon-Reid, funds raised from an annual

festival in South Florida, will determine the number of incubators that will be handed over next year. He said CRH furnished specifications of the desired units and admitted to being surprised on learning that the average cost of each unit is between US$4,000 to US$7,000. “This is a major capital endeavor. It will require collaboration with other Diaspora organizations in order meet the need for incubators over time not only to Cornwall Regional but other Jamaican hospitals.” He noted that there is need for increased dialogue with members of the Diaspora. “There's a disconnect between the giving and the receiving. It's too transactional. Because of this several opportunities are lost in terms of building on past successes." Meanwhile, the Chief Executive officer of the CRH, Anthony Smikle, pledged the hospital's support in building on the relationship with JURA and other organisations in the Diaspora. "We always encourage partners to continue to contribute to the hospital because we want that type of relationship. It enables the community to feel they are a part of the institution because it takes a community to run this outfit," he said. “We want to have a relationship with the Diaspora, and want to continue to foster the relationship. We commit to working with JURA to provide the information needed for this partnership to work." While in Jamaica, the JURA representatives also met with officials of the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston.
“I'm happy to be taking on the role. There's a lot of potential in the Florida Senate,” said Braynon who served notice that as the leader of the Democrats he'll be striving for increasing Florida's minimum wage, environmental protection, equal pay for women, affordable healthcare for more residents and improvement in public education. Braynon was first elected to the Florida Senate in 2011 in a special election to succeed former Senator and current US Congresswoman Frederica Wilson in Florida Senate District 35 which includes sections of Broward County and MiamiDade including Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Opa-locka, and Miami Gardens. His career as an elected official began in 2003 when he was elected to the Miami Gardens City Council at age 25. Five years later in 2008 he was elected to the Florida House. He was reelected to the Florida Senate without opposition this year, following the completion of his first term. Braynon was nominated as minority senate leader by Senator Jeff Clements of Lake Worth. The nomination was seconded by Senator Perry Thurston Jr. of Lauderhill, who spoke very highly of Braynon saying, “He has the vision to lead the state of Florida.”

PM dismisses media criticism concerning Prince Harry's visit The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne has brushed aside British media reports that he had sought to embarrass visiting Prince Harry when he suggested that the Prince should consider Antigua and Barbuda for his honeymoon. On Tuesday, Browne told reporters that remarks made about the Prince, who is on a threeday visit as part of a 15-day tour of the Caribbean, should consider honeymooning in the island, been blown out of proportion by the British press accompanying the Prince. “It is a situation where you have a form of the media, tabloid hype probably to sell papers. In fact even the Prince himself felt constrained because he knew that if he had taken a picture with any woman here…they would have plastered it all over
the British media and create problems for him personally. “He was very appreciative of the fact that we went the extra mile to make him feel comfortable, to make him feel at home and regretted that because of the media he could not quite participate
in the way which he would love to. “So again we have to understand the context in which this thing happened …It was not a formal ceremony, this was a party, there were some light exchanges and even my comments were not intended to be a formal speech,” Browne said, reiterating that the exchange was light hearted. Prince Harry is linked romantically to US actress Meghan Markle. In their report, the British media, particularly the Daily Mail, reported that Harry felt embarrassed and was not amused at the statement by the Prime Minister. The papers reported Prime Minister Browne as telling Prince Harry “I believe we are expecting a new Princess soon” and that he was “very welcome to come on your honeymoon here”.
CARICOM pleased with Conduct of Haiti’s Election CARICOM’s Election Observer Mission (CEOM), which monitored Sunday’s presidential and legislative elections in Haiti, said Tuesday that it was generally pleased with the conduct of the long-delayed poll. In a statement, the CEOM said it had observed more than 300 polling stations and that the officers of Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) “not only displayed an improved competence, but a uniform execution of their duties.” The CEOM visited polling stations in three districts neighboring the capital city of Port-auPrince, including areas affected by Hurricane Matthew that tore through the country on October 4. The CEM statement commended “the bold step by the CEP to convene the elections so close after Hurricane Matthew had wreaked havoc on the country.” It was also noted in its initial assessments that the Haitian election management body was well prepared.

Atlantis says data security system could have been compromised The Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas says its data security may have been compromised after the payment information of some customers who used debit or credit cards at food and beverage and retail locations at the resort between March 9 and October 22, may have fallen into wrong hands. “We have engaged professionals who have corrected the issue and customers can now safely use their credit and debit cards at the food and beverage and retail locations at the Resort. This incident did not affect credit and debit cards used to make or pay for hotel reservations or purchases made by guests who charged their food and beverage or retail purchases back to their room,” Atlantis said in statement. The resort said that it started investigating unusual activity after receiving reports from its credit card processor. But Atlantis said that since that time, it has

been working with third-party forensic investigators to determine what happened and what information was affected. It said the information at risk as a result of this event for credit or debit cards used at the impacted locations includes the card number, expiration date, CVV and in some instances, the name of the cardholder. “This incident did not involve customers' Social Security numbers as this information is never collected by the Resort. This incident did not involve customers' PIN numbers, either,” Atlantis said. The resort has since established a dedicated assistance line for individuals seeking additional information regarding this incident and urges customers to remain vigilant against identity theft by reviewing their financial account statements regularly and monitoring their credit reports for suspicious activity.

TALKUP
What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving, and what do you wish for others?
Gloria: Sunrise/Trinidad – I am thankful for friends. Friends, that's all. That's the only answer I have for you. I thank God every morning when I get up that he grant me another day, that's what I'm grateful for and I thank him (again) for it every night. That's what I hope for everyone.
Marcia: Sunrise/Jamaica – I am very thankful just for the great opportunity of being here in the U.S., to work and to experience this life, but I'm particularly thankful for health, that I'm able to get around, get to work, get to church, and just do everyday things that we probably take for granted; it's a real blessing.
Joan: Plantation/Long Island, New York – I'm grateful that I have a terrific family and that we can all get together here on Thanksgiving. We all have our ups and downs but there is certainly a lot to be thankful for. I wish for us all the spirit of understanding and accepting everyone – everyone has their differences, but everyone is a human being and we all just have to understand that.
Sandra: Sunrise, Jamaica – I am thankful and grateful to be alive, I am in good health, thank God for that; for my family, they are doing ok, and for just being here at this present moment. Let's all thank God for health and strength and don't worry about the small stuff because there's a bigger picture and you have people who are going through a lot; sometimes we have to think about other people and not ourselves – help other people, talk to them, comfort them because we don't know what they're going through, and just thank God every day that you're above ground and you're breathing.
David: Plantation/Jamaica – I am thankful that I have life, health, and strength, and that I can share it with my family. For everyone I wish that they just drive safely on the road and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday and don't forget that it's not just about getting together and eating, but in showing love for each other.
Marilyn: Plantation/Ocho Rios, Jamaica – I'm grateful for family and friends, and for good health. I would like to remind everybody to be grateful for each other, to be mindful of each other and just love each other – that's the main thing.
Kim: Plantation/Jamaica – I am grateful for a lot of things this year, it's just too long of a list, but God has been so good to us and I think that says it all. God has kept us through a lot of things and we should be grateful for that, and for family especially – we must be grateful for the little time that we even have to spend with family; grateful for what we have.
A5
Rayna: Fort Lauderdale & New York City/America – I am definitely thankful for my family and friends, who are always there for support in any way. For everyone else, I would say just be grateful for the things that you do have and the people that you have for support, whether that's emotionally or financially; for what you can control, and just always have that faith and that hope that everything will be ok and will turn out as it should, and let the universe take care of the rest.
Wanda: Sunrise/Puerto Rico – I am grateful for the family reunions, we share everything, the food – it's a good day for my family – dancing, singing karaoke until midnight. I am happy because I am with my kids – my daughter and my son are together with me. I celebrate thanksgiving every day but this is special – I clean the house, I change everything, I put up Christmas decorations. I want for everybody to be happy, living in peace, and to have enough food.

Mr. Trump: Americans need reliable affordable, health insurance Among the fears some Americans have with the pending implementation of President Elect Donald Trump administration is the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), nick-named Obamacare; the signature accomplishment of the Obama administration. Since President Obama signed the ACA into law in 2010 it has been fiercely opposed by Republicans. Several attempts have been made to repeal the law, none of which have been successful. During the recently concluded presidential campaign, Trump was blunt in his threat to repeal the act not only during his presidency, but “on the first day,” The threats to repeal the ACA retch amplified when it was announced a few weeks before the elections that premiums for some plans bought under the program would be increased by an average of 25 percent. However, despite the anti-Obamacare rhetoric, from the opponents, enrollment in the program continues to grow. Recently, the US Department of Health and Human Services reported record enrollment for health insurance under Obamacare during the current 2016/17 enrollment period that began November 1. Over a million Americans including 250,000 new enrollees and 750,000 renewals, enrolled for health insurance through the federal website healthcare.gov during the first 12 days of enrollment. The pace of enrollment has been faster during the current enrollment period which ends next January than during the corresponding period of enrollment in 2015. The data suggest, Americans, especially older Americans need affordable healthcare to be continued, not repealed. Even if the ACA, as now exists, is repealed it would need to be immediately replaced by a program that offers Americans who cannot afford private insurance, health plans under a similar program.
Admittedly, Obamacare has aspects that need to be reformed, and it is hoped the incoming administration would focus on these reforms rather than spend valuable time, and provoke unneeded controversy, in trying to repeal the law. Historically, most social programs in several countries, including Social Security and Medicare in America, are never perfect, requiring persistent tweaking and reforms.
Even with the implementation of Obamacare, the American healthcare system continues to be too expensive and inefcient, costing the nation trillions of dollars, estimated at 18 percent of the nation's gross domestic product (GDP). One of the main reasons for the high cost is providing increasingly expensive healthcare to older patients. This situation exists because too many Americans were unable to afford preventative medical care when younger and healthier. One of the more positive aspects of Obamacare is that it offers coverage to people for preventative care. This aspect should continue. If more people are tested for health issues earlier and medical intervention prevents extensive and expensive late life healthcare this could create significant savings to citizens and the nation.
Other aspects that should be retained is offering coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions and coverage to keep young people up to age-26 on their parent plan. Assuming, he remain true to his words, Trump threw the semblance of a positive light on Obamacare when in an interview since his election he said, he wanted to retain aspect of the program. One of the main aspect of Obamacare requiring reform is the high premium of some of the plans sold under it. Some of these premiums are much too expensive. To reduce this cost, several have been pushing for the government to introduce a singlepay system similar to Medicare which could result in more people having insurance and more insurance companies selling plans. Seniors on Medicare pay a single premium averaging $106 monthly, and enjoy significant benefits from one of several major insurance companies who participate in the ancillary Medicare Advantage program. Another proposed reform would be to make insurance coverage more competitive, thus more affordable, by opening insurance companies to market their plans across state lines. Other reforms could include insurance companies stop selling plans with high deductibles and maximum out of pocket costs. Plans with deductible as high as $3,000 annually is hardly of use to the policy holder. Also, the formula that offer tax credit to enrollees should be reformed. Under the current Obamacare system married couples who are enrollees but don't file taxes jointly are not qualified for the tax credit. The tax-credit ought to be applicable to every American based on their income, if the credit is meant to make health coverage more affordable. The bottom line is, through Obamacare millions of Americans have grown accustomed to federal affordable healthcare. The current system can be reformed instead of repealing it, and again deny enrollees affordable healthcare.

LA SECTION HAITIENNE
Haitians urged to accept outcome of election results Haiti's Interim President Jocelerme Privert has called on Haitians to a accept the outcome of Sunday's vote for a new head of state, saying it is important for the country to emerge from the political instability over the years. At least six million Haitians were eligible to vote for one of 27 presidential candidates, as well as for members of both houses of parliament in elections that had been repeatedly delayed for various reasons. The presidential candidates included Jovenel Moise, a plantation owner, chosen by the ruling PHTK (“the Bald Heads Party) and Jude Celestin of the LAPEH Party of former President Michel Martelly. Celestin had placed second in the 2015 ballot that subsequently was cancelled.
The other candidates include Maryse Narcisse, who was a spokeswoman for former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who had endorsed Narcisse and encouraged his supporters to take to the streets in protest if her candidacy failed. “The people who will win will win and those who will lose will win through those who win. Because the real people who will win, when the final results will be published, it is not the
candidates that is the country, it is the Haitian people,” Privert told reporters. He said because of the importance of the elections “it is not for us the government, it is not for me that is there for a few weeks, it is not for the candidates, it is the victory of the Haitian people. “So I ask all of you to contribute to enable the Haitian people to win this victory, so that once and for all, we would emerge from the political instability that is one of the main factors in which the country is today,” he added. No official results are expected to be issued for eight days, and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) executive director Uder Antoine has said it might take longer than that. The Anti-Fraud Emergency Center of the Ministry of Justice said it had already received more than 300 reports of fraud and that 80 percent of the calls received were linked to the voting centers.
Response to Haiti a success, following Matthew The Barbados-based Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) says the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) response to Haiti following the passage of Hurricane Matthew last month, has been a “resounding success.” CDEMA said it provided emergency relief supplies and early recovery operations in the two most affected areas of Les Cayes and Jérémie after the storm hit the country on October 4. “As part of a legacy intervention, CARICOM supported the rehabilitation of the Ecole Nationale De Sicard de Pelerin School in Les
Cayes and a feeding programme for the students for a period of two weeks,” the statement, said, noting that the response also provided US$53,000 in relief supplies to 805 families. CDEMA also noted that Dominica and Jamaica sent in containers and cash donations of US$100,000 to support CARICOM efforts and that the Turks and Caicos Islands provided cash donations of US$50,000 and personnel to also aid the recovery and relief process. Hurricane Matthew, the fifth named hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season, was formed near the Windward Islands on
September 28, 2016. Matthew provided significant impact to Haiti as a powerful Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale with maximum sustained winds up to 140 mph (220 km/h) with higher gusts. The Haitian government reported that Hurricane Matthew resulted in 546 deaths; more than 1.4 million people being in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and 120,000 families having their homes destroyed or damaged.

among others, in order to conduct an effective verification and due diligence. This comes on the heels of the recent launch of an indigenous marijuana company - Rasta Ganja Global Ltd, that is aimed at researching, developing and commercialization “sacramental ganja”. The company, that is registered in Jamaica and South Africa, is expected to help Jamaica's Rastafarian community benefit from the billion-dollar industry which allows communities to access religious goods and services. Lightborne says, in the first instance, conditional approval must be granted – this means that the CLA must conduct a satisfactory background check and the applicant is then required to implement the necessary measures to get the actual license to enter the industry. After receiving the conditional licenses, growers must prove that they have the right to use the land on which they propose to cultivate the crop, while transport operators must have proof of ownership or certified evidence that they are permitted to use the vehicle with which they plan to transport marijuana. The CLA was established in 2015 under the Dangerous Drug Amendment Act, (DDA) with a specific role to establish and regulate Jamaica's legal marijuana and hemp industry. It must also ensure that regulations created and activities within the industry are in keeping with Jamaica's international obligations.

More bad news for immigrants Trump picks “Anti-Immigration” Attorney General by Caroly Pedersen, Esq. As if things could not get worse for the fate Immigration Reform and Immigrants rights in this new era of a Trump Presidency - they have, as the new President elect has appointed Republican Senator Jeff Sessions to our country's top position as Attorney General. As the country's top lawyer, the Attorney General has, among other things, broad authority over our nation's Immigration laws, court system and enforcement, to decide which and how much of the law is implemented against Immigrants. Sessions is a notorious “anti-Immigrant” congressman, who favors closing down America's Immigration system as much as possible and even eliminating birthright citizenship, which allows all children born in the U.S. to receive automatic U.S. Citizenship at birth. Even more troubling, he supports Trump's most controversial policy to ban Muslims from traveling into the U.S.. Sessions is not only against illegal Immigration, but does not even support legal guest worker and H-1B work visa programs for foreign Hi-Tech workers. In an article he wrote for the Washington Post, Sessions said "Legal immigration is the primary source of low-wage immigration into the United States,"... What we need now is immigration moderation: slowing the pace of new arrivals so that wages can rise, welfare rolls can shrink and the forces of assimilation can knit us all more closely together." So, with such a clear position against Immigration, supporting a President with the same views, it seems difficult to imagine that Sessions is likely to moderate his views. So with all of Trumps possible proposed immigration policies looming ahead, causing so much fear and anxiety among immigrants, the American Immigration Council offers suggestions to Immigrants to understand their legal rights, including the right to (remain silent) refuse to speak to immigration officers or to refuse to open the door to ICE officers
(unless they have a Warrant) and the right to an attorney to represent you. The American Immigration Council also suggests having a safety plan in place in case you are involved in an enforcement action, including letting a friend know where to find your Immigration and other important documents and having a pre-arranged agreement with someone to care for your children during any detention. And importantly, to avoid “notarios” and other non attorney immigration services which may file inappropriate immigration forms on your behalf which put you on the USCIS “radar” and may result in an ICE action against you. Stay tuned…… You can download a “know-yourrights” card to present if you are ever stopped and get links to other advisories from the American Immigration Council by visiting our website at: www.ImmigrateToday.com and clicking on the Immigration Newsletter link or by calling our office at 954-382-5378.

Question: I got my Green Card through my dad in 2000 and lived there for a few years, then I moved back to Jamaica when I was a teenager because my dad and I did not get along. I attended college and have been working here ever since and have not gone back to America. Now my mom passed away a few years ago and I am not married, so when me and my dad patched things up between us recently, I decided to move back to the U.S. and as a Resident. I went to the Embassy to get my card reinstituted, but they told me I have to start the process all over again. It only took about a year when I first immigrated to the U.S. through my dad who is a U.S. Citizen, so I am wondering if I can do the same thing now. Thanks for your help. Answer: Once a U.S. Resident loses their Residency status by “abandonment”, which includes not returning to the U.S. for many years, all U.S. Residency status is lost and any desire to obtain Residency again requires a whole new application process. However, in order to qualify for U.S. Residency again, an immigrant must have a legal basis for eligibility, for instance, being married to a U.S. Citizen, or being sponsored by a U.S. Citizen child, parent or sibling, since there is no way to apply solely on the basis of requesting the old Green Card status again. In your case, your dad can sponsor you again, but now that you are over age 21, the waiting line for an Immigrant Visa as the Adult, Single child of a U.S. Citizen is currently about 6-7 years. Question: My wife and I have been married since December 2013 and I have my Green Card since June 2014. Can I apply for Citizenship once I have been married for 3 years this upcoming December 2016? Answer: The basic guide is called the 3/3/3 rule: meaning that in order to apply for your Naturalization early based upon your marriage to a U.S. Citizen, you need to meet the following three requirements: 1) Have been a U.S. Resident for at least three years AND 2) Have been married to a U.S. Citizen for at least three years full years (continue to be in a valid marriage living together) AND 3) Your U.S. Citizen spouse must have been a U.S. Citizen for at least three full years. However, you are allowed to apply for Naturalization 90 days before you have actually been a U.S. Resident for three years (2 years & 9 mo.). According to your date of Residency, as long as you and your wife are living together as a couple, you can apply for early Naturalization March 2017.

HEALTH
In recent years alternative or herbal treatment for physical ailments have grown in popularity. For Caribbean Americans and people originating from some rural regions of the U.S. some of these herbs grow in abundance. In the Caribbean, herbs including fever-grass, periwinkle, cerasee and aloe-vera are used to treat a variety of ailments simply based on tradition and folklore. However with the increased demand for herbal treatments and supplements, research has shown what some knew all along – that some herbs do have healing qualities. Herbal products have been challenging traditional pharmaceuticals because they are natural and have little or no side effects. Listed below are some popular herbs and the ailments they treat:
Aloe-vera - for treating burns, acne and rash. When blended as a drink it improves the digestive system, ease constipation problems, cleans the digestive.
Cranberry Juice - is potent for treating urinary tract infections. Recent research has revealed that cranberries have qualities to counter the development of breast and colon cancers, oral bacteria and bacteria that cause peptic stomach ulcers.
Chamomile - used mainly as tea, and is a popular nasleep aid, and stress reliever. The herb is also useful for treating gum problems, indigestion, ulcers, and easing menstrual pain.
Cayenne Pepper - a spice and healing herb. Used to treat constipation, diabetes, and arthritis, remove mucus, treat migraines, stimulates the digestive tract and detoxifies the body.
Pumpkin Seeds used to boost male sexual potency, treating prostate disorders, and bladder problems.
Golden Seal – use to treat cold, flu and sinus symptoms, gum diseases, gastrointestinal ailments and minor wounds.
Papaya - eating the fruit or drinking the juice aids digestion, and eases heartburn, and some bowel disorders. As it is a fruit that is rich in fiber, it lowers blood cholesterol levels and contains enzymes that help prevent oxidization.
Myrrh – one of nature's antiseptics used to for build the human immune system, fighting oral bacteria, treating bad breath and gum disease, skin rashes, asthma, colds, bronchitis; flu, sinusitis, sore throat and stomach ulcers, cuts, wounds and abscesses. Echinacea - “the miracle herb” used to treat colds, urinary tract infections, vaginal yeast infections, ear infections, cold sores, athlete's foot, sinusitis, slow-healing wounds and gum disease.
Ginkgo (Ginkgo Biloba) - mainly originating from Asia (China and Korea) used to treat male and female sexual problems, and some mental problems. Oral piercings are any piercings of the tongue, lips or cheek. In recent years it has become a form of self-expression; a body art. Oral piercings are viewed as a harmless expression of ones growing individuality, but it can be dangerous. Oral piercing can cause pain, swelling, infection, drooling, taste loss, scarring, chipped teeth, and tooth loss. Most dentists discourage oral piercing due to the many risks involved. If you do decide to get an oral piercing it is important to understand the regulations, associated problems and proper maintenance. What are the Different Risks Involved with Oral Piercings? You may not be aware of the potential side effects of oral piercings. These include: Infection — our mouths contain millions of bacteria, which can lead to infection after an oral piercing. Handling jewelry once it has been placed in the mouth also increases your chances of getting an infection. Prolonged bleeding — if a blood vessel is punctured by the needle during piercing, the result can be difficult-to-control bleeding and serious blood loss. Pain and swelling — pain and swelling are common symptoms of oral piercings. In extreme cases, a severely swollen tongue can actually close off the airway and restrict breathing. Chipped or cracked teeth — contact with oral jewelry can fracture teeth. Teeth that have restorations, such as crowns or caps, can also be damaged if the jewelry strikes them. Injury to the gums — not only can metal jewelry injure soft gum tissue, it can cause the gums to recede. In addition to looking unattractive, recessed gums leave your tooth root more vulnerable to decay and periodontal disease. Interference with normal oral function — jewelry in the mouth can cause excessive saliva flow, impede your ability to pronounce words correctly, and cause problems with chewing and swallowing. Blood-borne diseases — oral piercings have been identified by the National Institutes of Health as a possible factor in transmitting hepatitis B, C, D and G. Endocarditis — oral piercing carries a risk of endocarditis, an inflammation of the heart valves or tissues. The wound created during oral piercing provides an opportunity for oral bacteria to enter the bloodstream, where they can travel to the heart. As long as your mouth stays free of infection and your oral piercings do not interfere with normal function, they can stay in your mouth indefinitely. Just be sure to see your dentist at the first sign of pain or problems, in addition to your regular checkups. Because there are so many risks surrounding oral jewelry, even after the initial wound has healed, the safest decision you can make is to avoid oral piercings altogether. If you or your loved ones has an oral piercing, proper oral hygiene and safety practices are important to help them stay safe and comfortable. Because of the risks; the American Dental Association opposes the practice of oral piercings.

THANKSGIVING DELIGHTS FOOD
Holiday Sorrel & Jerk Turkey Jerk is what Caribbean people do best, so why limit it to take out chicken? Try this Jerk Turkey recipe for your Thanksgiving dinner.
Jerk Turkey
What you'll need: 12 - 16lb Turkey 2 cups mild wet jerk seasoning or jerk marinade Ÿ 4 tsp salt Ÿ Ÿ
Directions 1. Clean the turkey and pat it dry, removing innards and accessories. 2. Apply jerk seasoning liberally all over and under your turkey as well as in the cavities. Cover with aluminum foil and store in the refrigerator. 3. 3 hours before cooking time, remove the turkey from fridge and add salt all over and inside the cavities. Replace cover and leave on top of kitchen counter to come to room temperature. 4. Preheat oven to 260C /500F. 5. Grease roasting pan with oil. Tuck the wing tips under the turkey and truss the legs together. Tying the legs together is essential for even roasting. 6. Place the turkey bottom-side-down in the center of the roasting pan. Place in the center of the oven and cook 30 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 130C / 265F. 7. After an hour, turn the turkey over to ensure even browning. 8. Bake for 2 - 2.5 hours or until the deepest part of the breast gives a reading of 70 C/ 161 F. Remove from the oven to rest for at least 30 minutes. Do not poke or prod the turkey while it is resting. In order to get the best results, marinate your turkey for at least three days or up to 1 week before roasting.
Holiday Sorrel Sorrel is a Jamaican Christmas tradition that every Caribbean knows about. The sorrel flower is in full bloom at Christmas time in Jamaica. It has a deep red color and unique flavor enhanced with spices, lemon juice and rum (which can be omitted) Both fresh or dried sorrel can be used, whichever is easiest to find. If you're using fresh sorrel, simply double the amount used in this recipe. This recipe will provide you with 10 cups. What you'll need: 2 ½ cups dried sorrel 3 oz fresh ginger, grated Ÿ 5 pimento berries Ÿ 10 cups boiling water Ÿ 2 cups sugar Ÿ 2 Tbsp lemon juice Ÿ ¾ cup white rum Ÿ Ÿ
Guinness Punch
As you make your way up and down the Caribbean region, you'll find variations of a Guinness punch recipe, so use this one as a base and feel free to give it your own personal touch. This simple and quick recipe will become one of your go-to drinks. Basically all you have to do is place all the ingredients in a blender and give it a good pulse and you're good to go.
Directions: 1. Place sorrel, ginger and pimento berries in a large pot or mixing bowl 2. Pour boiling water over the ingredients; stir and place in fridge overnight to steep 3. Using a large strainer, pour the steeped liquid into another container; use a spoon to squeeze more liquid out of the sorrel 4. Add sugar, lemon juice and rum to sorrel and stir until sugar has dissolved
What you'll need: 1 Guinness 1 cup evaporated milk 3/4 cup milk (2 %) 8 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk Ÿ A pinch of nutmeg Ÿ 1 cup ice Ÿ 2 drops Angostura bitters Ÿ A pinch of cinnamon Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ
a INC
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a blender. Do not overfill your blender or risk it overflowing as you blend it together. The idea is to have a rich, creamy drink with a lovely sweet undertone. You may need to adjust the condensed milk to your sweetness level. Serve immediately for best results.

US/Cuba relations establishment of the earliest diplomatic relations between Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. Since then all CARICOM states have established diplomatic ties with Cuba. However, there are opponents of Obama's initiative. One of the staunchest and more persistent opponents is Claver-Carone - the executive director of the US-Cuba Democracy Political Action Committee (USCD PAC) and Cuba Democracy Advocates. Supporters of the measures to improve relations with Cuba, have interpreted Trumps appointment of Claver-Carone as a sign that Obama's efforts over the past two years could be thwarted when Trump takes office next year. During the recent presidential campaign,

presidential elections, Trump received 34 per cent of this vote – mainly from CubanAmericans and this could have contributed to his victory. While campaigning in the state, Trump said he would have negotiated a better deal with Cuba than Obama. Hugh J Lawson, a consultant and lecturer on Caribbean Affairs, says Trump's stance is evident in his most recent appointment to his team. “Claver-Carone's appointment makes it clear that Trump has intentions to pay attention to the recent developments that the Obama administration has put in place between Cuba and the US. I am not optimistic,” said Lawson. Claver-Carone has written op-eds in the Miami Herald criticizing Obama's Cuban policy, and is particularly opposed to US businesses collaborating with businesses in Cuba.

Earlier this year, Florida Governor Rick Scott placed the city under a state-offinancial emergency. Zika zone lifted in Miami Beach; local transmissions ease Florida Governor Rick Scott announced on Tuesday that the state would reduce travel restrictions to the Miami Beach area. At a press conference held in Miami Beach on Tuesday, Gov. Scott indicated that there had been no reported local transmissions of Zika in the declared contaminated zone. The governor previously removed Zika-related restrictions over the Wynwood area in September. While tourists and locals’ concerns have been lifted in Miami Beach north of 28th Street to 63rd Street, two active zones remain in Miami-Dade. Officials are still working to
contain the Zika virus in the South Beach region, and in a square mile area within Little River. Residents and businesses located in the zone expressed pleasure at the government’s action. Event planner Vonnie Maragh, said “there’s no doubt the outbreak of Zika affected the usually heavy flow of visitors to clubs, restaurants, and shops in that area of the Beach. This may not have been widely reported but small businesses in the zone felt the impact. This is good news especially at the start of the holiday season.” Miami artist Daniel Ducasse, said “This is great, because with Art Basel opening next week

Scott encouraged visitors to return to Miami Beach, he cautioned that the virus had not been eliminated and shouldn’t be taken for granted. He said, “We’re going to have to fight this until we get a vaccine….There won’t be a victory until there is a vaccine.” Scott noted that as the fight continues, decision will be made based on how to best protect residents and visitors, and most importantly, pregnant women.

Powell, dubbed the sub-10 king because of his world-record of running 98 legal times below 10 seconds in the 100 meters, said the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020 is too far away for him to consider. "I am not thinking about 2020 right now, the farthest I will be going is 2018, maybe the Commonwealth Games and that's where I see
myself, just two years and not 2020," said Powell, who was in India as brand ambassador for Airtel Delhi Half Marathon's (ADHM) on Sunday. Powell, who turns 34, last Wednesday, held the world record (9.74) for the 100m in 2008 before it was broken by Usain Bolt in May that year. He subsequently lowered his personal best to 9.72 in September that year. Powell, who was part of the winning 2008 quartet in 4x100m relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, said the competition in track and field was growing with each passing day.

“In Rio 100m finals, there were six runners who ran under 10. Currently there are so many people who can run sub 10s," he said. "Sports is evolving. The athletes are getting more technical. The coaches are doing a lot more. The sport has come a long way. Eight athletes in the finals who all were capable of going sub 10s." "A lot has changed and it's going to get better and better as we go further. We know guys from all over the world who can run sub 10s, may be we will have guys from India who can run sub 10s soon also," he added.

Dane Richards cut by NASL club Miami Out-of-favor, Jamaica international, Dane Richards has been released by United States North American Soccer League (NASL) club Miami FC. The 31-year-old Richards, once a regular fixture in the Jamaican national team, has endured a turbulent couple of seasons. The Jamaican international failed to secure a consistent spot after returning to the Major League Soccer (MLS) New York Red Bulls and was subsequently sent on loan by the club to

Indy Eleven. The MLS club later opted to not pick up on Richards' option for the 2016 season. He was then picked up by Miami in December of last year. Richards, however, managed only four appearances and failed to find the back of net on any of those occasions. On Monday he was one of seven players cut by the club. The others were forwards Roberto Alterio and Pablo Campos, defenders Joe Franco and Hugo Leroux and midfielders Wilson Palacios and Connor Rezende. Miami coach Alessandro Nesta, while thanking the players for their service stressed
that it was time for the club to prepare for the 2017 season. “Today we begin the process of preparing for 2017 and our march to the playoffs,” Nesta said. “We want to thank the players for all their work and dedication last season, and wish them the very best of luck in their future careers.” (digicelsportsmax.com)
