Jamaica’s Agriculture Minister Floyd Green has resigned following the surfacing of a video of him at a gathering that reportedly occurred during a “no-movement” day. In the video, which was posted on social media on Tuesday, Green along with Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor for the Mona Division in the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation, Andrew Bellamy, were seen celebrating and toasting alcohol. Green and Bellamy joined with others in the maskless group in a toast after a member said “no movement day”. The gathering was held at the District 5 restaurant at the R Hotel in Kingston. The video, which has garnered over 100,000 views on social media, triggered outrage across the country. Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding was just one of the public figures that called on Floyd Green to resign. In a statement this morning, Golding says for a Minister of Government, who ought to be setting an example for the population as a SCAN TO SEE whole, to be flouting the no-movement day THE VIDEO restrictions and partying with friends, is an arrogant insult to the people of Jamaica. He described Green’s action as an inexcusable, disgraceful dereliction of duty. “Ordinary Jamaicans would be locked up and charged with offences under the DRMA [Disaster Risk Management Act] for doing this. Yet a Government Minister and his cronies were there yesterday flossing and braffing away as if the COVID restrictions mean nothing, showing utter contempt for the rules that his Government has imposed on the people,” the statement read. Caribbean American Sworn in as New York Lieutenant Governor Caribbean American New York State Senator, Brian Benjamin, has been sworn in as New York's next Lieutenant Governor, less than a month after Governor Kathy Hochul announced his selection for the post. “New York State, I will do everything I can to make sure that those who are living at the margins, those who are struggling, those who are overlooked will have a seat at the table, and we will make sure that there's fairness, accountability and good practical decisionmaking that governs our activities,” said Benjamin, 44, the son of a Guyanese mother and Jamaican father. He had previously served as the New York State Senator for District 30 – which encompasses Harlem, East Harlem and the Upper West Side in Manhattan. “I've found a person who knows what it's like to struggle, to work hard, to make something of his life, and to now return his service to the community,” Hochul told the swearing-in ceremony that was officiated by United States District Judge Analisa Torres. “That is, my friends, the American dream, how someone who started out with little rose to where he is today, but now turns back and doesn't think about himself. He thinks about how he can serve not just his Senatorial district, but now he'll be helping me serve 20 million New Yorkers,” the Governor added. “It's an extraordinary responsibility. I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't think you're up for the task. And I know you are.” Benjamin thanked the 62-year-old Governor “for putting your trust in me. “And thank you so much, Governor Hochul,

Benjamin

“She [Hochul] wants to make sure that I am part of the team that goes around to make sure that people know that the vaccine is the answer and that, if we are going to get through this COVID epidemic, we have to do it together,” – Benjamin for this opportunity to serve. I will not let you down. New York State, I will not let you down, either. “You know, whether it's fighting for safer streets, advancing nation leading gun reform, combating the opioid epidemic and enhancing addiction treatment services or advocating for affordable and supportive housing, Governor Hochul wants to make sure that we all have a seat at the table, and I think that you asking me

to join the administration has made it abundantly clear that you want upstate and downstate, every ethnicity, every culture to feel included.” Benjamin said that for too long, people have not felt included that they have not had a seat at the table where their issues would be brought to the forefront. Benjamin and Hochul previously worked together on several key issues, including fighting the opioid epidemic and boosting addiction recovery programs, supporting Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) and making it easier for New Yorkers to vote. The new Lieutenant Governor said Hochul has asked him “to be helpful as it relates to tackling the COVID epidemic. “She has asked me to work to make sure that communities across the state, particularly those where there's a concern about whether or not they should take the vaccine, where there's less knowledge about the vaccine. “She wants to make sure that I am part of the team that goes around to make sure that

people know that the vaccine is the answer and that, if we are going to get through this COVID epidemic, we have to do it together,” Benjamin said, adding “and the vaccine is the key.” He said the Governor has also asked him to “play a very important role as it relates to making sure that renters, small landlords, and workers who have really had significant struggles because of COVID. “People can't pay their rent, we have small landlords who are literally cashing life insurance policies, taking out second mortgages on their homes because they don't have the support,” Benjamin said. “And as we know, there was US$2.7 billion of ERAP funding that has come to New York State. She has committed and wants me to assist with making sure that that money gets out the door to real people,” he added. “So far, only US$300 million has actually gotten in the hands of real people. We want to make sure that that number is ramped up much quicker, and I will work diligently with our governor to do so.” The new Lieutenant Governor was reportedly short-listed for the position, along with the Haitian-American chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, New York State Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, the daughter of Haitian immigrants; New York State Senator Jamaal Bailey, the chairman of the Democratic Party in the Bronx; and Rubén Díaz, Jr., the outgoing Bronx borough president. Benjamin says on his website that he was born in Harlem “to a Caribbean mother who came to this country seeking new opportunities.” “Though they didn't have a college education, his parents were fortunate enough to find well-paying union jobs, which allowed them to provide Brian and his siblings with a middle-class upbringing.”

Belize Gov’t Imposes Vaccine Mandate for Public Buildings The Belize government says effective October 1, only persons who are vaccinated against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic will be allowed to enter public buildings. Health and Wellness Minister, Michel Chebat, said that public buildings include not only the government buildings, but also privately owned buildings. “It would include any building where the public has lawful access to, including schools,” he said, adding that the new policy “will also apply to public transport”. The minister said that provisions are being made for persons who may have to visit hospitals and who have not gotten vaccinated or did not get the opportunity to take a test but needs immediate medical attention. “Health services will not be barred to anyone in Belize,” Chebat said, reiterating that everyone, regardless of whether or not you are

an employee at a public or private business place. “Absolutely, if you wish to work or if you wish to enter any of these public buildings, you must be vaccinated or present a negative test. “Clearly the business owners and the administrators who control these buildings

will have to be more proactive in their position. And, they will have a direct responsibility to make sure that only people who are vaccinated have access or that they are presenting a negative test.” On Thursday, the announced that it would hosting consultations with stakeholders and continues on B4 – Belize Mandate

St. Vincent Confirms Presence of Gamma Variant St Vincent and the Grenadines has now added the gamma variant to the list of COVID-19 variants recorded on the island. CARPHA notified the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and the Environment on September 12 of the COVID-19 sequencing findings of a positive sample obtained from a patient in St Vincent and the Grenadines on August 14. The sample was received at the CARPHA lab on August 20 and sent to the COVID19 IMPACT Project lab on August 24.

On September 11, the COVID19 IMPACT project lab reported to CARPHA that the Gamma variation of concern (VOC) – P.1 was found in one sample. The sample came from a Vincentian resident who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on August 14 while seeking medical attention. This adult has not been vaccinated against Covid-19. There were no other COVID-19 positive cases found after tracking this Vincentian resident's contacts. This case was isolated and has since tested COVID-19 negative. According to the Ministry of Health, due

to the confirmed presence of the Delta, Mu, and Gamma variants in the community, as well as a significant increase in the number of new infections, transmission, and severe COVID-19 disease, strict enforcement and compliance with all protocols and recommendations by everyone is strongly advised. It states that using masks correctly and consistently, avoiding crowds, physical distance, appropriate hand sanitisation, and vaccination with available vaccines have all been shown to greatly lower the chance of being infected, becoming sick, or dying from the COVID-19 virus.

OAS Deploys Electoral Mission for Bahamas Election The Organization of American States (OAS) says it will deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) to observe the general elections in the Bahamas scheduled for September 16. The OAS said Secretary General Luis Almagro has appointed Denis Godwin Antoine as chief of mission. Ambassador Antoine is the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Grenada to the People's Republic of China (2016-2019) and Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations (2013 to 2015). According to the OAS, he served as Grenada's Ambassador to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the OAS, and non-resident Ambassador for Grenada to Mexico and Panama concurrently, from 1995 to 2009. The OAS said the mission will begin its deployment on September 9 and is comprised of 17 experts and observers from nine different countries. “While the majority of the mission's members are working in-person, some are carrying out their duties remotely,” the OAS said. “In the Bahamas, they will meet with government officials, electoral authorities, political leaders, candidates, representatives of civil society and other relevant actors, which will allow for a comprehensive analysis of the process. “The mission will focus its work on the examination of issues related to electoral organization, electoral technology, electoral boundaries, electoral registries, politicalelectoral financing and the political participation of women,” the OAS added.

Should the COVID-19 Vaccine Be Mandatory for Air Travel?

Whether or not the COVID-19 vaccine should be a requirement to travel by air is again being debated in the united states, after the country's top infectious disease expert, Dr Anthony Fauci said said he would support mandating the COVID-19 vaccine for air travel. The White House said President Joe Biden is not ruling out a vaccine passport for Americans, as he has already issued vaccine mandates for healthcare workers and businesses with over 100 employees. Across the world, major countries like Japan, Israel, Denmark and most recently, Canada, have implemented the document to allow fully vaccinated residents and tourists to move freely. We asked our readers if a COVID-19 vaccine should be mandatory for travel in the United States. Here are the responses:

Maureen, Sunrise, FL - Yes. Flying requires people to be in close proximity to each other and just one sick unvaccinated person can spread the virus. "One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.” Everyone should get vaccinated. It’s the only way to stop, or at least, slow down this pandemic. You can also look for us in Jamaica

Kathy, Sunrise, FL - I think the COVID19 vaccine should be required when traveling by air as an effort to reduce the spread. Even if you have vaccinated all locals at your house, visitors and returning nationals can bring it home. And lets be real, on a plane we are not separated by 6 feet. It’s only fair to the rest of society that we try not to spread the virus unnecessarily. Especially across borders.

Bianca, Lauderhill, FL - Yes I think it should be mandatory. It ensures the safety of all passengers traveling including myself. When you’re on a plane, it is impossible for you to adhere to standard safety protocols. There is no social distancing, and everyone is breathing the same air in an enclosed environment for hours. Vaccination should be mandatory for air travel to mitigate against these risks.

Greg, Lauderhill, FL - No I don't think that it should be mandatory. By doing that, what the government is doing is forcing me to take something that I don't want. So I definitely don't think so. Each person should have the right to refuse the vaccine for their own personal reasons. Especially since this is a vaccine that has yet to go through the proper clinical and vetting procedures that standard vaccines are subjected to.

Douglas, Lauderhill, FL - Yes, I think that the vaccine mandate would be a good thing. It would protect you and you would be able to go anywhere safely and move around without restrictions. It’s time for the world to get back to normalcy and move on without this pandemic holding us back. We have been kept prisoner by Covid-19 for far too long and now that we have a weapon to fight it, we should take full advantage of it.

Roshel, Fort Lauderdale, FL - I think it would be a good move. In a lot of countries, you can't visit unless you're vaccinated for the spanish flu and so on. People are just scared because COVID-19 and the vaccine is still fairly new. But that's where we're headed. It's normal and it would protect people.

Why is Guyana Worried about Venezuelan Politics? This week we note a commitment from CARICOM, giving “firm and unwavering support” to its member Guyana, regarding a dispute with Venezuela over border lands. CARICOM affirms that it is giving its support “for the maintenance and preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Guyana,” and “for the ongoing judicial process of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that is intended to bring a peaceful and definitive end to the long-standing controversy between the two countries.” At the heart of the dispute is a plot of land, around 61,600 square miles located just west of the Essequibo River. Venezuela is claiming ownership of the land due to unspecific agreements about borders and colonial ownership, dating back to the 16th century. For perspective, it is important to note that Guyana’s total area is 83,000 square miles. In other words, Venezuela wants 74.2 percent of what is now considered Guyana. This land has been in dispute since the early 19th century but became more embroiled after Guyana got its independence from Britain in 1966. A brief look at the history surrounding this controversy is important to understanding where we are now. In 1814 the colonies of Berbice, Demerara, and Essequibo, located in northern and western Guyana, were given to the British by the Dutch. Three years later, Venezuela (formerly Gran Colombia) communicated to Britain that inhabitants of Demerara and Berbice were taking over their land, based on a treaty between Holland and Spain. Venezuela laid claim to all lands west of the Essequibo River and according to reports, there was no objection from Britain. In 1840, a survey by the British government resulted in the "Schomburgk Line,” (named after the surveyor) which Venezuela claimed gave Britain more territory than they were entitled. Venezuela disputed the border and in 1844 claimed all territories west of the Essequibo River. This led to deeper crisis over the land

Area of disputed territory between Venezuela and Guyana

Now 177 years later both countries are still trying to establish ownership, despite interventions by third parties, complaints to the United Nations, and procedural agreements, including one in Geneva. The matter has been further complicated with an increased economic value of the property. Parts of the disputed land has gold from as far back as 1876, and in 2015 oil was discovered. According to reports, as much as 9 billion barrels of oil is available, making it one of the most favorable oil explorations on earth. In 2018 the United Nations recommended that the impasse be settled by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Guyana then filed a formal request to have the ICJ resolve the issue, but Venezuela objected to the ICJ and stated that it does not recognize the jurisdiction of the court. Guyana has since asked the ICJ to rule in its favor because of article 53, which states that: "if any of the two parties does not show at the tribunal or fails to defend their case, the other party has the right to communicate with the court and to rule in favor of their claim." The court gave both countries an opportunity to present arguments and counter arguments. Venezuela said the court did not have jurisdiction

over the dispute and decided not to participate. A date was set to decide the authority of the ICJ and in December it ruled that it had jurisdiction over the dispute. Venezuela is maintaining its claim to an estimated 70 per cent of the Essequibo region including Guyana’s offshore oil reserves. Caracas is arguing however, that the 1899 agreement, which determined the boundaries between the two countries is null and void. With the court ruling that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case filed by Guyana, the country has been given until March 8, 2022, to file written pleadings in its case against Venezuela. Meanwhile, Venezuela has until March 8, 2022, to file counterarguments. Guyana is however seeking to obtain a final and binding judgement that will clearly state that the Essequibo region is indisputably part of their country. On Monday of this week the usually discordant government and opposition in Venezuela, agreed to take on the issue jointly. They agreed to act in unison for “the Social Protection of the Venezuela People” and on the “Ratification and Defense of Venezuelan Sovereignty over the Guyana Essequibo.” This move by Venezuela was no doubt made to show political force, which has the benefits of galvanizing public support and unification of Venezuelans. CARICOM by virtue of its uncompromising support has given the Guyanese people and government a solid assurance, that they are not alone. While we understand why President Irfaan Ali of Guyana would have some concerns, he should know that the twenty nations in CARICOM have his back. Additionally, it is reported that the United States will be joining them in sea patrol of the area. This can only encourage more countries to support Guyana. We hope good sense and judgement prevail in this process, as the world cannot afford another war.

Haiti Prime Minister Invited to Testify at Assassination Hearing Haiti's chief public prosecutor invited Prime Minister Ariel Henry to meet with him in the coming days as part of an ongoing investigation into the slaying of President Jovenel Moïse. The chief prosecutor Bedford Claude, noted that Henry spoke with one of the main suspects in the case just hours after the killing. The invitation noted that Henry had multiple phone calls with fugitive Joseph Felix Badio, who once worked for Haiti's Ministry of Justice and authorities say had a key role leading up to the July 7 killing of the president at his private home. Claude, Port-au-Prince's chief prosecutor,

Henry

said two of the calls occurred at 4:03 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. (local time) on July 7 just hours after the killing. He said evidence shows that Badio

was in the vicinity of the president's home when the calls were made. Claude told the prime minister that he was requesting a meeting with him to verify the content of those conversations, although he implied it wasn't mandatory. “The head of the criminal prosecution would be grateful if you so wish, taking into account the restrictions given your status as a senior state official,” the invitation read. He added that the invitation issued to Henry was justified given what he called a “case of extreme gravity for the nation” and a power vacuum that prevented authorities from obtaining prior authorization from a president

to request that Henry appear at the public prosecutor's office. The invitation sent to Henry comes as authorities seek to arrest additional suspects in the slaying, including Badio. More than 40 suspects have been arrested in the case, including 18 former Colombian soldiers who recently accused Haitian police of torture. A police spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment. Last month, a Haitian judge appointed to oversee the investigation stepped down, citing personal reasons. The move came after one of his assistants died under unclear circumstances. A new judge has since been appointed.

Haiti's Political Parties Agree on Transition Gov’t Haiti's main political parties have reached an agreement establishing a transition government until the holding of presidential elections and a constitutional referendum next year. The agreement, reached over the weekend, establishes a Council of Ministers under the leadership of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. “I have the assurance that this agreement will make it possible to conduct the affairs of the State during the interim period as short as possible, in order to achieve our main common objective which is a return to the normal functioning of our democratic institutions on new bases, in a secure and stable environment,” Henry said. The “agreement for peaceful and effective good governance” was signed between Henry, who has been leading the country since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise on July 7. “Rest assured that no distraction, no

summons or invitation, no maneuver, no threat, no rear guard combat, will distract me from my mission. “I want to say to those who have not yet understood it, that the diversionary maneuvers to sow confusion and prevent justice from doing its job serenely, will not pass. The real culprits, the intellectual authors and the sponsors of the heinous assassination of President Jovenel Moïse will be identified, brought to justice and punished for their crime,” Henry said. His statement is in reference to an invitation by the Government Commissioner of Port-au-Prince for him to come forward and explain to the Public Prosecutor's Office regarding two phone calls he allegedly made to Felix Badio on the day of the assassination of President Moïse. Badio is one of the main suspects in the assassination of Moïse and has been on the police have been searching for him. The spokesman for the opposition grouping

known as “Democratic and Popular Sector” (SDP), André Michel as well as the representatives of political groups such as Edmonde Supplice de la Fusion, Saurel Yacinthe from INITE, signed this agreement. “It was not an easy decision… But we understood that the time has come to build this country on a consensual basis of dialogue permanent. If this agreement did not contain the demands of the population, the democratic and popular sector would not sign,” said Michel. According to the Commission for the Search for a Solution to the Haitian Crisis (CRSHC), the course is now set on the creation of a monitoring office composed of 21 members including 13 from the CRSHC, three representatives of civil society, three representatives of political parties and two members of the popular sector. The 25-member National Transitional Council will comprise 52 members including 27 members of the social sectors and 25 members

of parties, groups and political poles which will be responsible, among other things, to choose a President and a Prime Minister who will have to lead the transition for a period of 24 months. CRSHC said it was inviting all Haitians to read the agreement of August 30, 2021, and signed on September 11 and to append their signature online if they wish, to support this agreement. “It was not an easy decision… But we understood that the time has come to build this country on a consensual basis of dialogue permanent. If this agreement did not contain the demands of the population, the democratic and popular sector would not sign,” said Michel. The agreement established the holding of presidential elections by the end of 2022. It also included a national constituent assembly made of 33 members appointed by institutions and civil society organizations.

Broward Schools Says Mask Mandate Will Stay in Place By Sheri-Kae McLeod The heads of Broward County Public Schools and the school board say the district's mask mandate for students will stay in place, despite the recent ruling that upholds Governor Ron DeSantis's ban on such mandates. On Friday, an appeals judge ruled that the Governor can continue to enforce his mask mandate ban, for now. But the Broward school district is standing its ground, saying it will not be reversing its mask mandate for students. Broward is one of 13 school districts in Florida that have defied the governor's orders. The Chair of the school board, Dr. Rosalind Osgood, said that COVID-19 is killing scores of residents in the community and the district is doing everything to keep children safe, but the state isn't helping. “In Broward County, we see people dying. We're attending funerals. We see kids and staff being impacted by COVID-19. We're having a real-life experience where people that we love, work and play with are dying every day. Our cry

Osgood

is based on the need to provide some safety and stability to the people in our community,” she said. The state has already withheld the salaries of school board members in Broward County because of its mask policy. Broward and Alachua are the only two counties that have suffered consequences so far. But Broward Interim Superintendent Vickie Cartwright said there is no plan on lifting their mask mandate. “Our local school board is acting under the Florida constitution, within their rights, within what they are charged to be doing for their local

community. This is about something greater than politics. It has nothing to do with Republican and Democrat views, and everything to do with us being in the middle of a pandemic,” Cartwright said. The school district has also called on the state to release federal funding for school districts that they say the state has failed to deliver, including millions owed to Broward County. “We don't have a process to ask for these funds,” Cartwright said. “We're talking about well over half a billion dollars.” In the meantime, the U.S. Department of Education has launched an investigation into how mask policies are being handled in Florida. The Florida Department of Education responded to the investigation by releasing the following statement: “This letter, and accompanying press release, is pure political grandstanding from the Broward County School District and Superintendent who have already repeatedly shown that they only care about scoring political points and being noticed by their party leaders in D.C.”

Local Gov’ts Face $5000 Fine For Vaccine Mandates Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday threatened local governments with $5,000 fines per violation for requiring their employees to get vaccinated against the coronavirus that has overrun hospitals and killed tens of thousands across the state. Local municipalities, such as Orange County and the city of Gainesville, potentially face millions of dollars in cumulative fines for implementing a requirement that their employees get a COVID-19 vaccine, the Republican governor said. “We are not going to let people be fired because of a vaccine mandate,” DeSantis said at a news conference outside Gainesville. “You don't just cast aside people who have been serving faithfully over this issue, over what is basically a personal choice on their individual health.” At the news conference, DeSantis called on several local government workers from central Florida to explain why they didn't want to get a vaccine at the risk of losing their jobs. Several offered false conspiracy theories about the vaccines, which medical experts have said are safe and highly effective. Many of the municipalities requiring employees to get vaccinated offer exemptions for medical or religious reasons. Gainesville spokesperson Shelby Taylor said the city stood by its decision. “It is our belief that as an employer we retain the right to require vaccination as a condition of employment,” Taylor said in an email. At a news conference, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, a Democrat, said that he believed many of the decisions the Republican governor makes are politically motivated and that the county “would deal” with DeSantis' threat, either through the courts or another manner. “It could be a lot of money, yes, not question about it,” Demings said. “At the end of the day, it is our goal to protect the people in our greater community, to keep them safe, which is a fundamental role of government.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Now Required For All Green Card Applicants By Attorney Caroly Pedersen CNW Legal Analyst •

On August 24, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) added the COVID-19 Vaccine to the list of required immunizations for U.S. residency and Immigrant Visa applicants. As a result, beginning October 1, 2021, green card applicants (applying for residency, form I-485) and Immigrant Visa applicants processing through U.S. Consulates abroad, will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For background, as part of the immigration residency process, applicants are required to undergo a medical examination, testing and to receive age-appropriate vaccinations for a variety of preventable diseases before obtaining U.S. residency.

Who is required to have the COVID-19 vaccine under the new policy? All immigrants applying for adjustment of status inside the U.S. (a green card) AND all immigrants abroad applying for an immigrant visa through the U.S. Consulate.

What is the procedure to have the COVID-19 vaccine administered? Unlike current vaccines which are administered during the required immigration medical exam, under the new COVID-19 requirement, immigrants age 12 yrs or older must complete the COVID-19 vaccine series (1 or 2 doses depending on formulation) and provide documentary proof to the USCIS/State Department authorized doctor before completion of the medical examination.

New USCIS Notice For Removal of Conditions Automatically Extends Residency For Two Years To qualify, COVID-19 vaccines must be recognized for use by either the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which are currently: Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), or the World Health Organization (WHO) in the country where the medical examination is conducted. COVID-19 vaccines administered overseas must be documented on the DS-3025 and for countries with the eMedical system, on form 951.

vaccine requirement with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Waiver requests must include documentation that the applicant is requesting an individual waiver based on religious or moral convictions and are not guaranteed to be approved. If a waiver is denied, and the immigrant refuses to complete the COVID-19 vaccine series, his or her case will be denied and he or she will no longer be eligible to obtain a green card or immigrant visa to the U.S.

What about immigrants who do not want to take the COVID-19 vaccine?

Are other waivers available?

Immigrants who do not want to take the COVID-19 based upon religious or moral convictions may apply for a waiver from the

Blanket Waivers are available for COVID19 vaccinations in cases where: • the vaccine is not age-appropriate • the immigrant has a preexisting medical condition that serves as a reason not to

The USCIS has announced that beginning September 4, 2021, immigrants who filed extensions to remove conditions on residency (forms I-751 or I829) will now have their residency automatically extended for 24 months. Until this change, immigrants who filed such requests received a USCIS I-797 Notice of Action receipt which only extended residency status for 18 months. This change is due to the reality of long backlogs in processing I-751 cases for spouses of U.S. Citizens to remove conditions on their residency to obtain permanent green cards, as well as for EB5 investors who file for permanent residency. The new USCIS receipt is evidence of residency and can be used along with the expired green card to extend Driver's Licenses, to work and travel.

Tips on Qualifying For Naturalization Even If You Owe IRS Taxes Many U.S. residents (Green Card holders) who owe taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) mistakenly believe they are not eligible to obtain U.S. Citizenship, when, in fact, most residents who owe taxes actually remain eligible to apply for naturalization, once they meet certain criteria. The key to successful naturalization for those who owe IRS taxes is in following several basic steps. One of the most important requirements to qualify for U.S. citizenship is to show you have “good moral character” in the immediate five years preceding filing the naturalization application (past three years for early naturalization based upon marriage to a U.S. Citizen). Issues that have the most impact on “good moral character,” include an individual’s criminal background, payment of child support and payment of taxes. The best approach is to file all required taxes for previous years and enter into an installment agreement with the IRS for payment of back taxes owed. Here is what you need to do: Step#1 File Your Taxes: If you have failed to file tax returns for past years in which you were required to file, the first step is to file all these delinquent tax returns now. This is required before applying for a payment agreement with the IRS. You should likely get the advice and assistance of an accountant during this process. The IRS will then send you a bill stating the taxes owed.

Step#2 Set Up a Payment Plan With the IRS: The only way to naturalize when you owe back taxes is to enter into a payment installment agreement with the IRS. To do that, call the IRS and explain you owe taxes and want to set such an installment agreement. Agents are often very understanding and willing to work with you and set the monthly payments as low as possible. Be sure to explain any extenuating circumstances, which negatively affect your income and ability to pay, for instance, any large financial expenditures for medical or other expenses. Step#3 Set up Automatic Payments: Request the IRS agent to set up automatic debits from your bank account. This is the absolute best way to ensure your monthly IRS installment payments are made on time and the best documentary evidence to prove to the USCIS you have been making timely payments on your taxes. Step#4 Make Your Payments: Make sure that you have enough funds in your bank account each month for your scheduled payments. Save copies of your bank statements each month and mark IRS payments in yellow highlight. Step#5 Prepare To File for Naturalization! Once you have your installment agreement and have made a few months (3-6 months) of regular payments, you should be ready to file for naturalization. while your Naturalization case was processing.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness asked Green to hand in his resignation. Green apologized for his actions, saying it demonstrated a lack of sensitivity. He said the lapse in judgment will never happen again. “Today, I have disappointed so many. My family including my son, my Prime Minister and most importantly, the people of Jamaica who I have sworn to serve. I accept that this was an error in judgment and that it sends the wrong signal especially in light of the Government’s drive to reduce the spread of COVID-19. For this, I am really and truly very sorry,” a statement from Green read. He will remain as the Member of Parliament for St Elizabeth South West.

the public on the new policy and that it was encouraging Belizeans to get vaccinated and to continue to wash hands, wear masks, and social distance. Belize has recorded 373 deaths and 17, 045 infections as a result of the pandemic since the first case was recorded in March last year. “Eighty one point nine per cent of the hospitalizations we are seeing are of unvaccinated persons, and 12.5 per cent are of persons who are fully vaccinated or partially vaccinated, meaning they only have one shot. In terms of deaths, the number of deaths we are seeing is eighty-two per cent of the people who are dying are unvaccinated persons; and thirteen point three of those are persons with a partial vaccination or only one,” said Chebat. “So, overwhelmingly the numbers are speaking for themselves. The hospitalizations, the greatest number comes from people who are unvaccinated. The deaths come from people who are unvaccinated. “So again, I cannot underscore how important it is for our people to be vaccinated. And, this is one of the other features we are seeing with the Delta variant. It is affecting much younger people. Before, with the Alpha, we were seeing older people in their seventies, eighties and nineties passing away from it. “We are now seeing much younger people. We have had deaths between the ages of 23 to 50, which is the younger, productive sector of our society,” the Health and Wellness Minister added.

Good afternoon, everybody. This is Karen and I want to thank you so much for all your loving thoughts, kindness, your prayers, oh my. Thank you for everything. It is a different way to spend a birthday of course but God is good, God is king, God is faithful. I am in touch, and I believe that he shall heal. Lots of love to you and so nice to hear you. ” – Smith Such was the character and spirit of one of Jamaica's finest songbirds. Karen Smith was a special quality blessed with a voice that you can't seem to get enough of. She was also a philanthropist and fighter for the causes of musicians. Unfortunately, she lost her fight with colon cancer five days after her 61st birthday, on September 11th. She has left behind thousands of aching hearts but treasured memories as well. Jeffrey Cobham, Former managing director of National Commercial Bank where she worked in the early days, in an interview, said Karen was “a creature of Light and Love. She talked to me about her choices. I told her that I had no doubt that she would rise in the banking profession because she was intelligent and a quick learner, but that those qualities would serve her as well in the world of entertainment. Prominent Jamaican journalist and friend of Smith Janet Silvera told CNW; she was an earthly angel who had a purpose. She fulfilled that purpose and is gone to another realm. Those of us who experienced the true Karen Smith consider ourselves extremely fortunate. I am richer for knowing her. She performed as the opening act for Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Harry Belafonte, Seal, James Ingram, Ray Charles, and Air Supply. And in 1990 when the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas opened, she was the first featured act. Karen recorded one album entitled “Reflections of Love” which had a mixture of Reggae, Hip Hop, and R&B. Steve Higgins, a renown Florida base Jamaican singer was full of praise for Karen's talent and character. “Karen Smith's angelic voice gave us all a glimpse of her effervescent, refreshing spirit and her beautiful soul. She epitomized sweetness with unrestrained love and enthusiastic excitement in all she did. Jamaica's tourism industry was a huge recipient of Karen's incredible singing skills, as she performed as a cabaret singer in the resort areas. Tourism minister Edmund Bartlett said in a release, “The entire tourism sector mourns the passing of Karen Smith, who brought a wonderful spark and professionalism to her performances.”

Karen Smith with husband Jackie

For her contribution to Jamaica's music industry, she was awarded the Order of Distinction at the rank of Officer Class, by the Jamaican government. She was also the recipient of nine Jamaican Music Industry Awards. She and her husband Jackie Jackson who is a base guitarist, were inducted in the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival Hall of Fame in 2001. While the passing of Karen will leave a void in Jamaica's entertainment industry, a massive hole will be left in the hearts of her dear friends. People close to her see more than her talent on display. Leighton McKnight, a close friend of Karen and her family took it very hard. Mc Knight told CNW; “She is famous for her superbly melodious voice that made her one of the best cabaret singers produced by Jamaica. Beyond that though, she was easily one of the sweetest and most personable individuals that I have ever met. She has never failed to radiate positivity in all my encounters with her, a trait which she admirably continuously demonstrated even during her devastating illness. Karen's life touched the lives of every socioeconomic group in Jamaica's society. Prime Minister Andrew Holness in his release said he was “deeply saddened by her passing. Affectionately known as “the songbird of Jamaica,” Karen Smith was highly regarded as one of Jamaica's most gifted cabaret performers. I enjoyed her spirit and warmth, not to mention her tremendous talent. It was always a pleasure to interact with her; she truly captured the essence of what it means to light up a room.” Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, PJ Patterson said Karen was “a star [and her] unique style fueled a meteoric rise to the zenith of her chosen field.” The former prime minister was a frequent recipient of Karen's singing skills. When a highway was being named for the former leader, it was Karen who serenaded him. And in 2019 when he launched his book, “My Political Journey” in Miramar, Florida, Karen was also there to provide entertainment. Jamaica's Entertainment Minister, Olivia Grange said, “Smith was “one of the queens of stage performance. Whether she was performing at national or international events or in little country churches, she was always engaging, entertaining and charming.” The minister added that “Karen has left an indelible imprint on the culture, arts and entertainment landscape of Jamaica. She was an active contributor to the cause of industry development. We will always remember Karen's legendary voice, engaging personality, enduring warmth and her advocacy.” Karen is survived by her mother, Barbara Smith, Husband Jackie and daughter Courtni.

Drakes Cameo Delivers first CPLT20 Title for Patriots Dominic Drakes produced a blinder as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captured their first-ever Caribbean Premier League title with a stunning last-ball win over St Lucia Kings on Wednesday. Chasing 160 for victory at Warner Park, the hosts reached their target off the last ball of the innings to complete a three-wicket victory and inflict heartbreak on Kings for the second year running. The left-handed Drakes, better known for his seam bowling, topscored with an unbeaten 48 off 24 deliveries, smashing three fours and sixes, while Joshua Da Silva chipped in with 37 and Sherfane Rutherford, 25. Patriots were struggling at 75 for four but Drakes, promoted to number six, put on a crucial 44 for the sixth wicket with Fabien Allen (20) to turn the tide. Earlier, both Rahkeem Cornwall and Roston Chase hit 43 while Keemo Paul came late to blast 39 as Kings, opting to bat first, tallied 159 for seven off their 20 overs. Fast bowler Naseem Shah (2-26) and leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed (2-32) both snapped up two wickets apiece. Kings were beaten in the final of last year’s tournament by Trinbago Knight Riders.

Thompson-Herah Wins Diamond League Trophy and Cash Prize Jamaican sprint star and fastest woman alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah closed off a historic 2021 season with yet another recordbreaking performance at the Wanda Diamond League final in Zurich last week Thursday. In addition to setting an Olympic record, a Diamond League record and many more storming performances in between, the 37year-old shattered the Zurich 100m record when she clocked a dominant 10.65 for her ninth sub-10.80 run of the year. The Jamaican earned her third Diamond League title by pulling away from Dina Asher-Smith of Britain, who was second in 10.83. She was one of several Olympic champions who finished the season-long Diamond League circuit with a win. Thompson-Herah capped off the season by not only winning the Diamond Trophy but also the top $30,000 prize, and a wildcard entry to the World Athletics Championships in Oregon next year.

Jamaican Forbes, Haitian François Net Braces in Impressive Wins Reggae Boy Kenardo Forbes and Haiti international Christiano François both netted braces to inspire their respective sides to emphatic victory in the United Soccer League last weekend. The 33-year-old Forbes scored his second half double at Highmark Stadium as Pittsburgh Riverhounds crushed Loudoun United FC 5-0 while François found the mark in each half at AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis as Miami FC brushed aside Memphis 901 FC, 2-0. With the victory, Riverhounds won their fourth in five outings and remained unbeaten in six, to be

second in the Atlantic Division on 47 points, two points behind leaders Tampa Bay Rowdies. Playing in Upstate New York, Todd Wharton gave Riverhounds a 20th minute lead, which remained intact at the second half break. Forbes got his first in the 58th minute with a spectacular left-footed volley from 10 yards while on the run before grabbing his second and fifth of the game, eight minutes from the end after Russell Cicerone (75th) and Thomas Williamson (80th) had stretched the lead further. 18-yard box, the forward curling a superb shot past goalkeeper Jonathan Mennell in at the far post for his sixth goal of the season. The 28-year-old François grabbed his share of the spotlight in the American south, scoring in the 32nd and 50th minute to extend Miami’s impressive recent form. He put the visitors ahead just following the half-hour mark when Janos Loebe fired a low shot into the crowded box, the rebound falling to François who slammed home from 11 yards.
