What is a Chamber of Commerce? A Chamber is an independent, business organization focused on a specific mission as drafted by its membership. Its services and initiatives are funded solely by the membership through annual dues and programs or benefit fees. It is not a government agency, nor affiliated with any other group or organization. Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce The mission of the Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life in the Greater Liverpool area, (Village of Liverpool and the Towns of Clay and Salina) through the development of an organization of business and community. MYOB! At Staff Leasing, we tell every business owner we meet to “mind your own business.â€? We’re not being rude...it’s simply good advice. Rephrased “politelyâ€? we could say, “Do what you do best and leave the time-consuming-nitty-gritty-employee-relatedtings to us.â€? You see, when it comes to employees, we’ve got it covered. From job descriptions, employee handbooks and employee ďŹ les to payroll, beneďŹ ts enrollment, 401K, and workers comp management, we handle it all, and we do it right! Anytime you want to review the details - from vacation time to contact info - it’s all just a click away. It’s a win-win situation. In the end, your employees are more satisďŹ ed (and productive too). You stay compliant with all employment regulations. And most important of all, you have time to do what you do best: mind your own business.

Caz Lions step up fundraising as Fourth of July approaches

A recent infant car seat safety check in Cazenovia was sponsored by the Cazenovia Community Pre-School, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. See page 7.
As the Fourth of July approaches, the Cazenovia Lions Club is actively campaigning to raise its goal of $10,000 towards the annual fireworks display. “This year’s show will be one of the best Cazenovia fireworks ever and will continue a long-time tradition, the Cazenovia Lions Club said in a news release. The fireworks are sponsored by the Lions and are entirely funded by contributions, which are used exclusively for the Fourth of July display. This years’ display is scheduled for about 9 p.m. Saturday, July 4. “While other communities are cutting back or eliminating the fireworks show, Lions said, “we are attempting to keep ours going. Merger

The nearly 200-page fire district study released in May for the town of Van Buren has inspired an intergovernmental meeting June 30 to discuss the future of fire protection in local towns. The report, compiled by Public Safety Consultant Ron Graner of RFG Associates, indicated more than 60 recommendations, including the dissolution and reoganization of all current fire districts, establishing a regional approach to fire and rescue services that invites the towns of Lysander, Geddes, Camillus and Elbridge to participate, creating a public relations program that educates residents, and creating a region-wide volunteer firefighter recruitment program. Van Buren Supervisor Claude
Sykes, who organized the meeting, said it would allow representatives from the towns of Camillus, Cicero, Van Buren and Onondaga County to discuss the findings of the Van Buren study, and also to look at parallels with similar studies commissioned by Camillus in 2007 and by the fire departments themselves in 2003. The goal of the meeting is not to jump into a regional program, Sykes said. Attending will be Sykes, Camillus Supervisor Mary Ann Coogan, Cicero Supervisor Chet Dudzinski and Onondaga County Executive Joanne Mahoney. Howard Tupper and Pat Dickman will accompany Sykes as representatives of Van Buren. Sykes said he chose to invite Coogan and Dudzinski “since they have similar or worse problems than VanBuren. The goal of the meeting will be
to at least discuss the partnering between the towns and county to improve the fire protection county-wide as well as in VanBuren, Sykes said. For Coogan, the meeting could be a sign of much-needed cooperation “all the way around. “If there’s a better way, we ought to be doing it, Coogan said. But, change would not be immediate, she pointed out. “You have to look at the dollar and what you’re getting for it, but safety is always first, so there’s a lot of things to be looked at and discussed. Coogan said she had not read the study yet but that the findings seemed to be similar to the 2007 Camillus study. Dudzinski said he wasn’t sure what would come out of the meeting June 30, but he thought it

In tough financial times, local governments are looking to cut costs in any way possible, including merging local fire departments. Could we soon have one department serving several towns?
Liverpool’s new mayor-elect Gary White views his victory as a “vote of confidence from residents satisfied with the direction of village government over the past several years. By a vote of 291 to 154, Gary White won the Liverpool mayor’s race June 16 over independent candidate Tom Stack. The mayor’s salary is $8,000 annually, and trustees are paid half that. While White welcomed Stack’s opposition, he labeled his opponent’s ideas as “unrealistic. “I feel very comfortable in the direction we’ve taken under Mayor (Marlene) Ward, White said. On the eve of the election, at the June 15 village board meeting, White praised Ward for a number of accomplishments over her four terms as mayor, including improvements to the sanitary sewer system, Washington Park, Johnson Park and the adoption of a Comprehensive Plan.
