LaganView Enterprise Centre Awarded Stepping Stones Champion 2012 LaganView Enterprise Centre was recently awarded “Stepping Stones Champion 2012” at a recent awards ceremony held by Stepping Stones in Island Civic Centre. LaganView Enterprise Centre currently work in partnership with the employment service at Stepping Stones NI in Lisburn. This partnership provides ongoing opportunities for work and further training to increase the employability for adults with learning disabilities and learning difficulties. Since 2011 LaganView has been committed to supporting the training of those with learning disabilities and difficulties by taking on four volunteers from Stepping Stones one day a week, all involved in a range of tasks. Currently Pauline Connell, James Johnston and Paul Brown all work one day a week performing different tasks and duties. Pauline gives administrative support to LaganView Enterprise Centre and The Resurgam Community Development Trust while both Paul and James are involved with the general maintenance and operations of the centre. Toni Fisher is due to start youth worth with one of the youth projects in Old Warren very shortly. Joanne Murray the acting Operations Manager at Stepping Stones said “In the current economic climate LaganView Enterprise Centre has recognised the valuable contribution that our clients offer to businesses through their experience and abilities within their chosen career and their enthusiasm and work ethos. Stepping Stones works closely with the centre supporting four clients in various roles from

admin to care taking and youth work. “This year LEC were awarded the prestigious “Champion of SS” award which recognises employers who have embraced the ethos of supporting employment and are leading the way in equal opportunities.” Joanne Casey, Centre Manager for LaganView speaking about the award said “ LaganView is absolutely delighted to be presented with such a wonderful award, it is an absolute pleasure to have four members of Stepping Stones volunteering within the centre. All have such a friendly demeanour and cheery smile we are grateful that Pauline, James and Paul and now Tony are willing to give their time, energy and talents to contribute to the great work here at LaganView. Our experience working with the volunteers has been invaluable and we hope that their experience is similar and will help them all to develop skills to fulfil their work potential. The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem, said, “It is great to see a local community business committed to the ethos of supporting those with learning difficulties or disabilities through Stepping Stones. Let’s hope LaganView acts as a great example to other businesses in the local community who would be interested in supporting this worthwhile charity through volunteering or employment opportunities.” For further information about the employment service or for advice on supported employment please contact Deborah.montgomery@steppingstones.org.uk or tel 02892666404.
