The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem, said, “It is great to see a local community business committed to the ethos of supporting those with learning difficulties or disabilities through Stepping Stones. LaganView in conjunction with The Resurgam Community Development Trust along with volunteer organiser Sara Taylor held a very successful coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer on Friday 28th September for the first year running. The coffee morning attracted over 100 people from local community and beyond all of who enjoyed numerous cups of coffee and delights along with having the opportunity to win a prize in the raffle on the day with all tickets being drawn by The Right Worshipful The Mayor, William Leathem. The staff of LaganView and Resurgam would like to say a big thank you to all those local businesses, community groups and volunteers who helped out on the morning, donated treats for the morning, donated prizes for the raffle or simply gave cash donations. The response was simply overwhelming.
Many of the treats were sold in bags towards the end of the morning with the rest being donated to local pensioners in the area. The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem, speaking about the event, said: “It is great to see two local community based organisations’ joining together to raise money for the very worthwhile cause, Macmillan Cancer. The dedication and the work of Macmillan Cancer is to be commended as it works to improve the care for those loved ones who suffer from cancer. It is very encouraging that this charity is being supported right across the Lisburn area.” A grand total of £477 was raised on the day and it is hoped that this will be able to become an annual event for The Resurgam Trust and LaganView Enterprise Centre.

New Volunteer Project advises older people to check callers I.D. Volunteers from the new Lisburn SAFE project have been working in partnership with the South Eastern Heath and Social Care Trust to roll out an older people’s survey across the Old Warren, Hilden, Hillhall and Maze areas. The purpose of the survey is to ask older people living in these areas about their needs and to get advice and support to them should they need it. The community safety volunteers will use the opportunity of meeting with the older people to highlight the importance of checking the identification of anyone they don’t know calling to their property. The volunteers will give out information on the Freephone caller I.D. Quick Check service in which the Lisburn SAFE project is now registered on. Anyone wanting to check the I.D of a caller claiming to be from an organisation or company can ring the Freephone number 0800 013 22 90. If anyone would like further information on The Lisburn SAFE Project or would be interested in volunteering please contact Alison Holdsworth Project Development Officer on: 07512677465

Fundraising & Social Events The Resurgam Community Development Trust has recently launched its annual fundraising event @ LaganView. This year the Trust will raise the stakes and with the support of a number of local social enterprise organisations will be offering a magnificent prize; a Honda Vision 110cc with an on the road price of around £2,000! Trust Director, Mr Adrian Bird said “Fundraising and social activities play a very important role in the strategic plans of our Trust. It helps raise very useful funds which can assist in the development of local social enterprise and entrepreneurship. These types of activities also act as a bond with our membership and can connect communities and bring individuals and community based organisations together to work on a common cause. This year with the support of our own social enterprises we have been able to purchase a very valuable prize and it is hoped that this will generate interest and help us raise the much needed funds. If the prize draw is successful there is no reason why it cannot become an annual event.”
The Resurgam Trust would like to take this opportunity to thank Lisburn Community Self Build, Premier Taxi Company Limited, Laganside Business Services Ltd and The Highway Inn for their very kind and generous donations which has helped make their fundraising event a reality. If you would like to purchase a ticket for the draw which are priced at £5.00 each or learn more about volunteering and the fundraising and social activities of The Resurgam Trust please contact us on 028 9267 0755.
