Arthur Skill started work delivering fish but later started taking local miners to and from Bestwood Colliery.
1921
Mr Skill purchased his first ‘proper bus’, an ex-War Department ambulance fitted with a 14-seater charabanc body.
1925
Expansion began and services were commenced to the British Celanese factory at Spondon, near Derby, via a variety of routes. This work continued for over 50 years before coming to an end in the late 1970’s.
1927
Skills began operating a seasonal Saturday express service to Bridlington and Scarborough. Eventually, Skills started a service to Filey and Whitby (Destinations that are still popular today)!
1928
Arthur aquired a large site in St Peter’s Street to use as a garage for his fleet. He only had 8 vehicles but it showed his initiative and by 1939 there were 24 coaches!
1937
Part of Bees (Nottingham) Limited and Red Line Coachways, of Nottingham, was taken over and in addition to coaching work, Skills brought a retail shop at Alfreton Road.
1945
New and longer holiday excursions were introduced, giving customers more choice.
1970’s
Skills introduced shopping trips to France. This developed into Continental touring on a regular basis to Austria, Holland, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
1987

Nigel Skill and brother, Simon Skill brought the company to become Managing Directors.
1993
Skills bought Midland Travel, this would later be known as CoachStyle!

That’s why we can arrange for a local taxi service to collect you from your home and take you to the nearest pick-up point, where the coach will be waiting*. *Additional charges apply unless stated on the itinerary. Prices quoted are return journeys. We reserve the right to pick-up additional passengers on route and may substitute another vehicle if appropriate. Taxi pick-ups must be booked and paid for no less than 28 days prior to departure. Taxi’s which are used on a Bank Holiday will incur a 25% increase per person.
PARK & RIDE SERVICE
We’re improving our Park & Ride service on selected holidays and moving to Toton Tram Stop (NG9 6JX), this will make your interchange much smoother and will mean your holiday can start as soon as you step on-board! Spaces are limited to a first come first serve basis. Confirmation for this service must be made at the time of your booking and your pick-up time will be advised approximately 2 weeks prior to departure. Parking is at your own risk. Skills Holidays or NET Tram Network will not accept responsibility for any damage, accidents or losses.

Thanks to a great partnership with the NET Tram Network, we can now offer Toton Tram stop as a pick-up point for all of our passengers (on selected breaks). Day 2 – After breakfast our day of retail therapy can begin. This morning we will drop you off close to Oxford Street, with everything from luxury brands and historic department stores to high street favourites – you’re sure to find
a bargain or two here! After some free time, perhaps explore the world-famous Harrods Department Store, with 7 floors and 330 different departments. Day 3 – Shortly after breakfast we’ll travel to Camden Lock market for a little free time. A former timber yard for ship builders, Camden Lock was opened in the 1970’s as Camden’s original arts and crafts market. Today, it comprises of stalls and shops selling everything from vintage clothing to artwork, music and more. Later, we’ll return home.

Day 3 – This morning you can enjoy a little free time in Bournemouth before we return home. Day 2 – After breakfast we travel to Portsmouth, Experience the ‘Christmas Tree Wonderland;’ here we have included entry into the Dockyard this magical winter attraction sees the historic Grade II listed gardens covered with over 100 where the “Victorian Festival of Christmas” is taking place. Explore the snow-covered glittering trees and illuminations. After some Dickensian streets in the awe-inspiring setting of free time, we return back home to the East the historic dockyard, which is home to the new Midlands. Tonight, we have arranged an evening Dinner Party Cruise along the Thames, this 4 hour cruise includes a welcome glass of sparkling wine, a 3 course traditional Christmas dinner served with half a bottle of wine per person and tea or coffee afterwards. Later.enjoy disco and dancing!
Day 2 – After breakfast enjoy free time in London. Covent Garden Tube Station is 6 minutes’ walk away from the hotel. Set in London’s West End Covent Garden Piazza is a must-see destination for anyone who enjoys shopping, theatre, restaurants, bars, history and culture. After some free time, we begin our journey home.

Watch York come alive at York’s St Nicholas Fayre with costumed traders, carol singers and the delicious smells of roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate laced with Brandy. On this short break we will also visit the annual Grassington Dickensian Festival - this small village is adorned in Christmas lights and the streets come alive with traditional markets.
Day 1 – We travel to Grassington, where wonderful array of food stalls, entertainment and the town will be celebrating their legendary stocking fillers! Dickensian Festival. Soak up the unique festive atmosphere on cobbled streets and enjoy the traditional wooden chalets with a warming mulled wine and the festive glow of an open brazier. After some free time, we continue to the hotel.
Day 1 – Before arriving at our hotel we enjoy free time in York, here you can visit one of the most popular Christmas markets in the UK – the York St Nicholas Fayre. Each stall offers different merchandise including gifts, crafts and jewellery. Be sure to sample some of the local specialities and international cuisines whilst enjoying carol singers and the daily entertainment.

Day 1 – Arriving in Portsmouth, here you can enjoy some free time before boarding our Brittany Ferries Cruise Ship later this afternoon.
Day 1 – This morning we travel to Hull, where we will board our P&O cruise ferry. Once you’ve settled into your cabin you are free to explore the various facilities and seasonal entertainment on board. Perhaps pre-purchase your meal package through us and enjoy a brilliant buffet dinner before heading to the Sunset Show Bar to enjoy some Christmas themed entertainment

Day 1 – Arriving in Leeds enjoy a couple of hours free time before we continue to The Great Victoria Hotel in Bradford. After a little free time, we return to our hotel for an early evening meal before travelling to Auckland Castle for tonight’s spectacular performance.
Day 1 – This morning we travel to Durham for free time. No visit here would be complete without a visit to the world-famous Durham Cathedral, which together with the adjacent Castle forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After some free time, we continue to our city centre hotel in Newcastle.
As dusk falls, this action-packed show begins, taking place over a seven-and-a-half-acre stage the show incorporates a full-sized lake, pyrotechnics, spectacular lighting, water effects and a cast of over 1000 local volunteers. Day 3 – After breakfast we visit the traditional North Yorkshire Market town of Thirsk. Essentially unchanged and uninfluenced by the world, Thirsk has a charm all of its own. Perhaps visit the Thirsk Museum to discover the town’s famous sons, including Thomas Lord, the founder of Lord’s Cricket Ground who was born here in 1755.

All bookings are subject to our full Terms and Conditions which you can find on our website: www.skills.co.uk/ terms-conditions. A copy of these can also be e-mailed or posted to you on request. By asking us to make your booking, you confirm you have had access and agree to our full Terms and Conditions, which you should read and familiarise yourself with. Prices are correct at the time of going to print, but may increase or decrease at a later date. We reserve the right to increase or decrease prices of unsold holidays and insurance at any time after brochure publication as our costs change and exchange rates fluctuate, or to correct errors. Current prices of our holidays and travel insurance cover are shown on our website and are also available by telephone. Please ensure you have checked the price of any holiday and travel insurance cover you are interested in before making your booking. Our holidays may be subject to a minimum number of bookings in order to operate. For all holidays, the deadline for deciding if sufficient passengers have booked to travel for the tour to operate, is the date by which full payment of the holiday must be made. In the event that minimum numbers have not been reached, we reserve the right to cancel your holiday and refund all monies paid. If you have a complaint during your holiday you should tell the driver/ representative or supplier at the earliest opportunity so that they can do their utmost to resolve the problem immediately. If on your return from holiday, you are dissatisfied you should write to us (quoting your reference number) within 28 days. We are unable to investigate any complaint received more than 28 days after your return. If you do not tell us at the earliest opportunity about a problem giving rise to your complaint we cannot take steps to investigate and rectify it. In deciding how to respond to your complaint we will take into account the date you first drew the problem to the attention of our driver/ representative or supplier. Letters to be received within 28 days of your trip or holiday return. Questionnaires are provided at the end of tours to gauge general customer satisfaction, however any comments made on the form will not be regarded as a formal complaint. We will not be liable or pay you any compensation where the performance of our contractual agreement has been prevented or affected by Force Majeure, for example this includes delay, cancellations, change of itinerary, change of accommodation, change of transport. Force Majeure is any event which we or the supplier(s) of the service(s) in question could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid, and is therefore beyond our or the supplier(s) control. These events include, but are not limited to; strikes, riots/civil unrest, government acts, hostilities, war, threat of war, terriost activity or threat of terriost activity, hurricanes, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, flood, tornadoes, hurricanes, transportation and mechanical problems, airport closures, and severe weather conditions. We subscribe to the Code of Conduct of the Bonded Coach Holidays Group (BCHG) of the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT). BCHG requires a bond to be taken out to provide protection of money received for your Package in the unlikely event that a Member cannot, for financial reasons, carry out their obligation to their passengers.
