The event provided free safety resources, such as child ID cards, to participants. Reliant Notary Services and Alarcon Legal coordinated the activity-packed afternoon, a first for Carpinteria. CKE announces Carpinteria closure
CKE, parent company of Carl’s Jr. restaurants, announced on March 7 that it will close its Carpinteria headquarters and move to Nashville, Tenn., early next year. In a 2014 report, CKE had 114 employees in Carpinteria, but a company statement places the number at 75. According to the statement: “Most employees will be offered positions with relocation packages and the remainder will receive job placement assistance.” CKE, also parent company to Hardees Restaurants and Green Burrito, has an additional headquarters in St. Louis, Mo., which will also close as part of the consolidation to Nashville. A representative said that owing to over 90 percent of restaurants being
franchise-owned streamlining to one headquarters made sense. “Being highly franchised has also reduced our office space needs and, thus, made consolidating offices a more viable option,” stated the representative. CKE’s Santa Barbara County restaurants, which were formerly company owned, are now franchised, so a local presence of executive staff became unnecessary. Company CEO Andy Puzder had sounded alarms many times in recent years over his desire to move headquarters to a more business friendly state. In the past, he had given Texas as the primary place to relocate. CKE was purchased for an estimated $1.75 billion in 2013 by Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group. ––Peter Dugré
