Jaylynn Robinson, second from front right, knows that hard work is easier with a good attitude. And what better group than the Carpinteria High School cheerleaders to bring enthusiasm into a job as grueling as converting 5,500 pounds of California-grown avocados into guacamole for sale at the 30th Annual California Avocado Festival? The team also used 1,000 pounds of chips, 60 pounds of onions and over 100 ounces of lemon juice in this year’s effort to raise funds. All those hours of mashing and selling paid off with a grand total of over $22,000 raised before expenses. For more photos from last weekend’s Avofest, see pages 13-15.
