Librarian Julie Soto passes out ballots to second-graders at Aliso School on Nov. 8. The young readers became part of the democratic process— not to elect a national leader but to select their favorite of five storybook nominees for the California Young Reader Medal Award. Voting usually takes place in January, but this year Soto opted to have the literary election coincide with the General Election.
