DAVID POWDRELL

On Wednesday, June 21, teens across Carpinteria joined together to express themselves through brushstrokes and bursts of color at the Carpinteria Arts Center. In the picture above, Ella Bailey is under the sun’s watchful gaze as she adds finishing touches to one of the painting’s celestial bodies. Led by Carpinteria’s own wise art sage John Wullbrandt, these budding painters created a whimsical mural in two pieces that will be dismantled and rearranged into an optical illusion known as an agamograph. This masterpiece, titled “Night and Day,” is open to view at the arts center, and its swirls, stars and space creatures will be showcased immediately following the Independence celebration parade on Saturday, July 1, at 5 p.m. at 855 Linden Ave.
