A bird’s-eye view of Carpinteria Creek offers an understanding of Caltrans roadwork that’s hard to come by at ground level. To the left, the new bridge will punch Via Real through to Casitas Pass Road. Highway 101 traffic will be rerouted to the portions of bridges now under construction to the left of existing lanes. After that, the existing highway bridges will be demolished and rebuilt. When both sides are combined, the new roadway will accommodate three lanes of traffic in each direction. The new bridges over Carpinteria Creek are 10-feet higher than before so that 100-year flood waters can travel downstream without obstruction. Details on the multi-year, $60 million project can be found at SBROADS.com.
