On the 10th June, Mariano Rajoy the acting Prime Minister of Spain and the leader of the PP (centre right) visited Torrevieja.
Rajoy visits Torrevieja

is visit to Torrevieja was to kickstart his election campaign in the Valencian region. The local PP party chose the Real Club Náutico as the main venue for the rally as projecting a particularly good image of the town. Rajoy is believed to have begun his campaign inTorrevieja because it is a marginal town and one in which the previous PP government was ousted at the last local election. In anticipation of the leader’s arrival and to begin their own campaign, members of the PP in Torrevieja congregated in an open air celebration attended by more than 300 people.

He then made his way with his entourage to Real Club Nautico where he was received by the Chairman, Germán Soler. The ex-mayor, Eduardo Dolón opened the event with a short speech which was followed by speeches from José Manuel García Margallo (Alicante) and Isabel Bonig (Valencia). Finally, Rajoy addressed the crowd at the packed Real Club Náutico. During his stay he also found time to go for a run with the ex-mayor Eduardo Dolón at his side. Around forty Podemos (anti-austerity) supporters were also out to begin pasting the posters which are traditionally displayed in the centre of the town. Although a specific number are allocated to each party it seems as though some
parties will not be taking up their right to fill the billboards. Both the PP and PSOE (centre left) have declared their intention of not using their space in order to save money. A gesture that some have suggested should
